"Two weeks?" I said, rubbing my head as I sat up.
Welcome back, Viraa said.
"You entered a coma-like state as you slept," Michael told me as he helped me up. "I tried everything I could, but it didn't seem to be a physical issue."
"And your life wasn't in danger," Tymon added, his arms crossed as he leaned against a nearby wall.
"It was likely something related to your body reacting to that amulet around your neck," Avarice walked over and nodded toward the turquoise stone embedded in my chest.
"We've had plenty of time to learn the Universal Standard Time while you were unconscious. We arrived on the 25th day of Ainaht – February 25th on Earth. Now it's March 11th there, so it is the 10th of Sotirt UST. Coincidentally, one hour, day, and week in UST is the same as it is on Earth, but one month is exactly 30 days and one year is 24 months, so essentially 2 Earth years." Avarice showed off his knowledge.
"He's been learning as much as he can in the palace's archive room since Raina insisted we stay here until you woke up," Za'Fia said, flipping through some pamphlet. Or was that a book?
"That's not all that's happened while you were out," Tymon spoke.
"Before that, how are you feeling?" Michael asked, observing me closely, likely looking for any signs of harm or a new condition.
"I feel fine. Fully rested, actually," I told him as I stood.
"If the amulet starts affecting you, let me know immediately," he insisted.
"Of course," I smiled before turning back to Tymon. "Now what's this I missed?"
"Tension between the pneumarians and the klevonians from the Klevonian Army has gotten worse since we arrived. Apparently, there's been an uproar about some pneumarian, klevonian, and non-cindarian children within several districts going missing, sparking citizens and cindarian parents from throughout Pneuma City to push Raina and the Spiritan Commanders to do something about it. There's a scheduled gathering of each Crest Head later today to discuss the issue," Tymon explained, standing from his leaning position.
"They think the klevonians from Forgeton are responsible?" I inquired.
"Raina mentioned that being a tactic the Klevonian Army used to force their hands before," Avarice commented as he examined the model of the klevonian body. No doubt, something, Michael also took the time to study while I was out.
Several times, Viraa added.
"Hm," I mumbled, thinking. Raina wasn't with them. She was likely busy dealing with her people. I should probably find her.
This may seem out of place, but it would be wiser for you to travel the nation and learn more about it before you step into its affairs, Viraa suggested.
Yeah, you're right.
I looked at Michael. But that doesn't mean we'll ignore the problem altogether.
Being a Crest Head, can I send a stand-in?
Yes, Viraa replied.
"Can you find Raina? When the meeting starts, try to help her quell her people's anger long enough for me to learn more. I'll check in often," I told Michael.
"Leave this to me," Michael urged. "Being unfamiliar with us, the other Crest Heads will likely be untrusting toward us as a group, but I'll find a way to establish a resolute relationship between us and them. Should I fail, I will update you; however, for now, you should focus solely on educating yourself in this new world so that you can represent us to the best of your ability."
I concur, Viraa said proudly.
"Okay, I can't argue with that," I said, stunned. "Then I leave it to you."
"I'd like to meet the Ryfa Pakt, but as Viraa and Michael stated, I should learn more about the nation while I'm here," I continued as Michael left the room.
"Then I'll go to Forgeton first," Tymon suggested. "After hearing about the past, we don't know what to expect from the Klevonian Army. It's best that I go and make sure it's safe before sending the team."
I nodded. It wasn't like he could die. If need be, he could handle himself and escape through his shadows.
"Try to figure out their motives if you can, and learn their side of the story, and find any missing children," I replied, eager to help find the children before it was too late.
Tymon shook his head in refusal to my last request.
"My main goal is to make sure you can get a safe audience with the Ryfa Pakt. After that, we can figure out a way to keep an eye out for the abducted kids."
I didn't like putting it off, but Viraa reminded me not to act emotionally. She told me that wherever the children were, if they weren't dead yet, it was so they could be used for leverage somehow. Meaning we had time to figure things out without overlooking anything important.
Forgeton is located southeast of the rift down the middle of the planet, Viraa directed Tymon. Travel south from Pneuma City. Once you have reached Old Pneuma City, go east. There is a bridge there that crosses over into the southeast region. Cross it, and you will be in the Klevonian Army's territory.
"Alright," Tymon said, heading toward the nearest window.
"Hey, I'll go with you," Za'Fia followed behind him, but he turned and denied her advance.
"I need you here," Tymon told her.
"Why?" Za'Fia asked, clearly hurt.
"If something happens, it'll be easier for me to handle things if I don't have to worry about anyone else," Tymon told her a little too bluntly, oblivious to her feelings. "Besides, with Michael gone, I need you here with Alissia in case Avarice tries anything."
"I'm pretty sure she's capable of handling herself now," Za'Fia rejected, crossing her arms defiantly.
"That's not the issue," he said patiently. "Since she's a Crest Head now, she has to follow a different set of laws. If Avarice decides to become a problem, she won't be able to release her full power. So, having you around will help keep him in check."
Avarice scoffed as he continued to fiddle with organs from the klevonian body model.
"Fine," Za'Fia sighed and relaxed. "But I know something's been bothering you, and I won't let up until you tell me."
For a moment, it seemed like Tymon almost smirked before he turned and leaped from the ten-story window.
"Finally, the nuisances are gone. So, remind me, what shall the three of us be doing again?" Avarice asked, suddenly standing behind me.
