Ship: Kallura
The library was quiet, this time of day. Only a few people were left, sitting about on the lounges, some sleeping, others working desperately on doomed projects and the rest had theirs heads buried in books. Except for one. Allura wound her way through all of them, through the orange sunlight and to the mullet wearing a red jersey that wasn’t his. With the two notebooks she’d been carrying around all day, she poked him in the back. When he turned around at first, he seemed confused and vaguely irritated at the sudden attack. But when Keith saw the soft waves of her slightly frazzled white hair tied into a bun and autumn cloak slung over her arm, a soft smile formed on his lips.
“Hey there, beautiful,” He said softly. Allura replied with a quick kiss on the cheek. With a small smirk, she tugged at the collar of his jersey. “Did you steal this from Takashi?” she giggled. At that he flicked up his collar with a defensive huff. “Maybe,” Keith admitted with a wink. Only on these type of afternoons together, could Keith be that sly, that kind of flirty. The kind of suave Allura only knew from their collection of 70’s cheesy romances. Because every other hour, Keith was a loveable, quiet mess. The kind of guy that shoved his hands in his pockets and found the closest pole or wall to lean against, some kind of guarded look fixed on his face. Yet still the prettiest guy around. “Well thief, you ready to do some realstudy?” Allura asked, eyebrows raised. Keith replied with a small, yet suspicious smile. Without prompting he took her hand and led her out into the carpark. Jumping onto the back of his bike and curling her hands around his waist to hold him close, Keith promised something along the lines of a better place to study. With a barely stifled smile Allura buried her face into Shiro’s jacket that now smelled like Keith and said, ‘okay.’
Down by the docks filled with kids just having finished school, tired mums and dads and high school sweet-hearts all enjoying the mid-afternoon sun and the ice cream from the best ice cream place in town, Keith and Allura found a spot beneath an old maple. He didn’t exactly come prepared, but offered ice cream and the stolen jacket to defend her against the ocean wind. Her Keith was simply sweet like that. Part of her didn’t even need the jacket. His chest was always so warm. Whether they were lying in bed sleeping away a Saturday morning or a Sunday hangover, napping in a park or those nights were Keith with a few simple texts told her he just needed to be held.
Allura licked away some of the strawberry ice cream from the corner of her mouth. Keith rested his head atop hers, slow breaths taking in the scent of her coconut shampoo. He’d eaten his chocolate ice cream within about two minutes of getting it. Relaxed as he seemed to be, Allura couldn’t help but worry. She could tell he didn’t like Shiro’s jacket wrapped around him. It reminded him too much of what this year had held for him and of what his future promised. Shiro was…admirable. Respected. It seemed every teacher on campus greeted Keith first as Shiro’s little adopted brother and as Keith second. But Allura knew he was just as smart, just as capable, despite his occasional temper. She’d bet her bottom dollar that Shiro had had his momentsin college too. But Keith wasn’t the kind of guy to respond to pretty words. So Allura gave him the rest of her ice cream despite his soft protest and kissed him on the jaw, a silent promise she’d give him all the sweetness he could want and remain curled into her chest her hands intertwined with his to assure him he was worth it all, and he did not live within a shadow but could shine brightly as the afternoon sun that beamed down on both of them.
