Raeven Marguerite Amano was a typical rich girl who is the only daughter of a well-known restaurant-chain owner in the city, she is a beautiful and smart girl who gets all the attention any spoiled brats need from everyone. But she doesn't have a care for any of it. All she knows is that she was raised to please her parents and be a tool to impress her mother's friends. Truth be told, she has had enough of it.
She has an older brother who looked exactly like her and during their childhood days; most of the time, they were mistaken for twins back when they were still young. So many who don't know them and have seen them will think of them as a twin. They turned out to be a mere attraction to those who were fascinated with the striking resemblance to each other. Her brother doesn't care about their family either, he only cares about her. He cares a lot about her; they grew up attached to each other since no parents were around to take care of them, but only servants at home.
That's why she only knows how to do things half-heartedly, with indifference, and without enthusiasm. For her, the world is plain black and white and her future was decided by her heartless mother.
That one fine hot summer morning, they were having breakfast in their garden. It has been decided that she will attend the prestigious Academy for girls; St. Claire Academy. And she doesn't have a say on that matter, her parent's word is a law in this family and then; children were merely their puppets.
And that is why, on one fine Monday morning, she was sent to the entrance gate dazed. She was walking down the long and elegant hallway of St. Claire Academy and familiarizing herself with every secluded corner of this fancy campus; she needed a secret place where she could hide, and cry to her heart's content. It is also noteworthy to add that no one has ever seen her cry, since she was 4. Not because she feared getting bullied but because no matter how hard she tries to look indifferent, she can't hide the fact that she's weak inside and she needs something to believe in though there must be no one to know of her weaknesses, only her alone. With all her cold and indifferent front, who knows if she's tired of being alone?
After a while, she went to the rooftop. It was nice up there after all rich girls don't isolate themselves rather they're up and about and so darn irritating show-off. Except for her. She stayed there for a little time, knowing that the designated time for the assembly was half an hour before it started. Her first impression of the campus was fine, she liked the old vibe feeling to it and usually. it was the people that took longer for her to get used to. She looked at her watch, took a deep breath, then she walked down the great hall where the welcome ceremony will be held.
When she entered the great hall she felt dizzy looking at all the girls hearing them squeal and scream at each other like they were shrew. She had a hard time squeezing her way in then she looked around. She looked from left to right; she doesn't want the front row; that is for the show-offs, the back row is for the spoiled delinquents, the middle is for the girls who don't have any complaint being moderate and subtle among these lively and noisy girls. She chose the latter. So, she tried to sit beside the first plain-looking girl she's ever seen. At first sight, she felt odd just by looking at her. Is she a poor scholar? She heard before that smart girls can enter this Academy, even if they came from a common household.
"Uhm, excuse me?.."
The girl was surprised as well by her presence but looked at her with an honest face. It was her first time to see an expression like this one. Mostly, she would look at people indifferently and they would only give you attention after they have recognized who you are. If you're somebody then they will start talking to you, it only irritates her when they do that with enthusiasm. But if you are nobody, they will look at you once and with those discerning eyes then ignore you like you didn't exist at all (she saw a lot of that during parties), which is unlucky. She's taken aback looking at the cute, innocent girl... Well, this is refreshing.
"Yes?"
"I was wondering, is anyone sitting next to you?" Now she finds a seat with a plain-looking girl curious about her, she has an urge to find out her identity... At least that's what she feels right at that moment.
"It is still available if you want it." The girl said and smiled sweetly at her.
She has never seen such an angelic smile before. It was so innocent and full of sincerity. She felt warm inside and there was something else... It was a weird feeling, it was hard to understand. She gave her what she hoped was a sincere smile and then said; "Thank you."
Once she was seated, she thought she should try to start a conversation with her.
"Say, it was such a busy day today, huh." The girl beat her to it.
She rolled her eyes, " ugh, you bet." She said with indifference. She tried to give her an honest smile. That's all she could do to repay this girl's generosity.
The girl was surprised. She frowned and looked a bit puzzled. "Why the shock?"
"You just surprised me... No offense but a typical rich girl doesn't talk with other girls unless they're like them..." The girl tried to explain to her timidly.
She looked at the girl in front of her for a moment and assessed her; her looks, what she's wearing, and her attitude, her eyes twinkled. Based on what she's wearing; the uniforms were all customized, from the high-quality cotton blouse, vest, skirt, and down to her black shoes. She looks plain, but with all the high-quality items on her body; it is important to say that she's also rich and not the poor scholar type she guessed a while ago. She can't help but wonder. Now she knows... She thought this girl was no ordinary.
"Well, I'm like you, aren't I?" She said obviously, "were both humans who were stuck in this castle-like doom." She said jokingly, then let out a dry laugh. She looked at the girl beside her. She felt unsettled like this girl can see through her. It was uncomfortable.
"I'm Angel Samonte. Nice to meet you." The girl introduced herself. If Raeven was not mistaken, she could tell the unease of this girl while she introduced herself; it was like she was scared she would be rejected. But if it was the usual conversation she gets every time, she won't even give her name and just let this girl know it all on her own after all she was from a well-known wealthy family. For a bit, it was not really her intention to befriend her, but this special girl made its way to her heart so suddenly. Something about her attracts her, and she was curious. Finally, she decided.
"I'm Raeven Amano. My pleasure to meet you."
From that day on, it's no longer one of those ordinary days where everything is black and white. Raeven somehow saw an opportunity to look at the wonders of this world, and it gave her hope that there is still goodness left in this world.
