Can I just say that this place has the friendliest atmosphere and people then any other website I've been on? Everybody is so nice. I wish I had found this site sooner! I hope we can keep it this way :)

I agree. This site is a very friendly place to be.

Definitely. This place is like happy therapy for all occasions.  It cheers me up every time.

I'm on here more than Pinterest ...and that's saying a lot.

I think it might be something about the people here that makes it so friendly. We're not necessarily "big wigs" or anything like that on other sites. Some might be, but most are not. And we see what happens when people get big heads, and when they talk others down for any reason, so we try to avoid talking others down, going instead for helping others build themselves up.

Exactly. It's not an ego show, the majority of us are here to improve ourselves in a community of like minded people, not looking for fans and to up the number of views for our pieces purely out of vanity

I came here from FictionPress and it was like switching from dark to day. There's a lot of buttheads over there lol.

I used to go on FictionPress. But I totally agree; it is like switching from dark to light. I always found it be a rather inactive place
Musesation

@Nicole Armas, Maybe it was less active because there were so many stories on the site? I bet that won't happen here since we have societies and contests that are more ingrained into Penana.
Nicole Armas
Nicole Armas3 years ago
@Musesation, That could be the reason.

@Nicole Armas, I noticed that, too. And it was hard to find friends. And I hated the way the reviews were laid out, that you couldn't reply to them without messaging the person.

@Civil Disobediance, It certainly wasn't very close-knit

I don't even understand how one becomes a big wig while writing... I mean, reading the amazing stuff you guys put up all the time costantly humbles me! I agree, 10/10 for the community here

And yet Stephanie Meyer and that awful chick that wrote Fifty Shades of Gray are rolling in the dough -_-

@Civil Disobediance, I want my words to reach people's hearts. I want them to love my characters far more than they love me. Let them have their money!

@Andrew Knight, I feel the same way, don't get me wrong...but money is nice, too lol.

@Civil Disobediance, Have you heard of Stephanie Meyer's "The Host"? It's actually not too bad. Better than Twilight.
OWTT

@Musesation, No I haven't. I'll have to see if my library has it and check it out.

I've heard all good things about The Host, though I haven't read it. I have seen the movie (I know, I know,) and thought that it was all very well done. You can tell it's Stephanie Meyer, though, because the relationships are incredibly dramatic and complicated, ha ha!

Ah, I'm a professional TV watcher... I mean, security consultant... so I tend to have a lot of time on my hands. Not always a good thing!

@Andrew Knight, professional TV watcher XD I wouldn't mind switching from making subs for drunks to watching TV for a living lol.
Andrew Knight

Boy is it boring, though! My job description actually puts me right there with you on drunks, though, as I mainly deal with healthcare crisis', and that involves a lot of substance abuse

@Civil Disobediance, it's a job. Subway sounds rough to me haha. I hated food service ;P Respect for being able to put up with it!

@Andrew Knight, Words can't describe the hatred I feel towards my job lol. But I stay there for my daughter. My boyfriend makes enough for us to just get by but without my job, we wouldn't have the money for anything extra. I was pretty poor growing up and I want my daughter to have as much as I can give her. I don't want her to have to eat in soup kitchen or have to get clothes from free clothes drives like I had to.

@Civil Disobediance, exactly the position my wife and I are in, without the baby. She isn't a huge fan of her job either, but she's in college and we'd really be scraping by without her. I grew up very privileged but my parents drilled me in the value of hard work, so I was out as soon as possible (three weeks after graduating high school). I put my time in at a dead end job (we lived paycheck to paycheck for a year, and had about $20 in the bank each week after bills). Now I'm luck enough to make enough by my self, and she takes care of the extras. The struggle is real, you're not alone!

@Andrew Knight, To quote The Outsiders, "Things are tough all over."

@Civil Disobediance, perfect quote!

@Andrew Knight, my favorite book. I don't know if you ever read it (or watched the movie) but basically means that no matter what you're circumstances (in this instance, whether you're rich or poor) everybody has problems.

@Civil Disobediance, I loved the Outsiders, I read it when I was about thirteen. I actually just incorporated this whole concept into the end of the latest chapter of my NaNoWriMo project before this conversation!

@Andrew Knight, that's when I first read it, too :D I've read it like six times since then, though lol.
