They say appearances don't matter. That what only matters is who you are on the inside. If that was true, I would be no one. But it isn't true. That's why I'm broken.
I'm just another beautiful girl for hire. That's all they see me as. Even if I could leave, people would still know. My past is written on my flesh. Two tattoos on my wrists. They mark who I am and who I belong to.
My beauty is a blessing and a curse. I can get people to do what I want occasionally, but for what price? I still am the equivalent of a slave. A worker who gets no pay. I am a worker clothed in fine silk because I am the best.
And why shouldn't I be? Everyone knows who I am. They know I am beautiful. Beautiful but broken. Nobody knows how much I am hurting inside. My beauty covers up anything I do wrong. Anything I mess up, nobody cares. Nobody sees me for who I am. Except Nola, and she doesn't even get it all.
She nods to what I say and listens, but she doesn't get it. It takes a special kind of person to listen and offer advice when they haven't been in your place. Nola isn't that type of person though.
She's not a bad person. Really. We just doesn't get it all. She only works half of the hours I work. I put on a happy face, but it's as fake as the happy lilac on my right wrist.
One day I will leave this place. I have been looking for ways to get out ever since I came here. Its the one of the only things keeping me from insanity. I have never tasted freedom before, and I will. I am just biding my time.
