Memories call me back

An old voicemail

Echoing in the back of my mind

A simple collection of frames is all that’s left

Of what you and I were

A love-struck fast-happening happenstance

All starting with a glance

“Would you like to dance?”

What an easy question

But I answered wrong

I knew

Denying the truth

So I could be with you

Ever so close and yet so far

My fingers brushing yours

Ethereal feelings

Immaterial love

I still remember the day we put it in the grave

One handful of dirt at a time

You thought I was a pastime

But really you were mine

I still recall all those nights

When you broke down my cell walls

As we reached for the moon

In the month of June

Staying up past goodnight

With twilight in our eyes,

And dreams on our minds
