~~~~Arwen~~~~
A swift elbow to my chest makes me jolt and I cough rubbing the sore spot.
“What the hell?” I mumble the sleep from my eyes. That’s when I notice Billie's face scrunched up and her having a nightmare. My heart throbs painfully in my chest, I can’t imagine everything she’s been through. It hurts me to see her this way.
“Shh, it’s ok I’m here.” I soothe her, brushing the hair from her face. Billie mellows down slightly and without thinking quite clearly I pull her into my arms, half expecting her to wake up and move away but she only holds me right. Her fingers are gripping my shirt as if she needs me to breathe.
Ok, remember how to breathe Arwen. But I don’t want to disturb her. What if my breathing is too loud and she wakes up? Am I sweating? I feel kinda hot. Oh, Jesus what if my breath stinks? Fucking shut up idiot.
I rub my eyes taking a deep breath. It’s fine, I’m fine, she’s fine. Hell, I’m better than fine. Unconsciously I rub soothing patterns on her back to make sure she doesn’t have another nightmare even though it’s already past 8 am. I’ll let her sleep as long as she wants. Hell, she could sleep all day and I wouldn’t care as long as she stays here.
I doze off for another hour, my body becoming numb as I carefully untangle myself from her and pull on a pair of low-rise pj pants. She’s so sweet. I glance at her serene face, calm and smooth. Her pink hair is strewn over my pillows. A goddess.
Lovesick fool. I shake my head, shoving a hand through my tangled hair. I didn’t know Billie was going through all that stuff, she was always so positive and fun that it didn’t even cross my mind that her brother could be sick. How could I be so blind? She’s done so much for the boys and I how could I have not seen the signs or anything? She deserves the world.
Cracking my knuckles I stare at our messy kitchen, strewn boxes of takeout, and rub the back of my neck. Ok, I’ll admit our apartment is not the cleanest but I’ll at least try to cook yeah? Sure I’ll try. Can’t be that hard.
~~~
On the third try, I’ve finally come out with a decent slightly crispy egg, orange juice, two pieces of not burnt toast, and berries I “borrowed” from Greer. And the bread, and the eggs. I bought the juice, so that counts for something.
“Ok, all done!” I grin at my little presentation. And hear Luke and Nash’s door open and then stumble out.
“Why do I smell food?” Luke yawns given I never really cook that’s his job and the fact it’s almost 10. Billies have been sleeping for a long time.
“I made uh Billie breakfast,” I mutter, my cheeks turning a slight shade of pink. Nash is the first one to roll his eyes but Luke on the other hand grins brightly at me skipping to see what I made.” oooh~ you made eggs and berries? Wow, why don’t you ever do that for me?” He pouts and I nudge him aside carrying the tray to my room.
“You know I love you but shut up.” I laugh as Luke only smirks at Nash, silently begging for food. Of course, Nash agrees. Psh he never makes me food.
Whatever. I gently kick open the door and come to find Billie sitting up in bed, her hair wild and yawning.
“Good morning!” I grin and show her the food, setting it down on my bed, and staring at her with anticipation. What if she doesn’t like eggs? Who doesn’t like eggs? Billies mouth parts as she glances at the food and then back at me. Did I do something wrong?
“You…Arwen, cooked me something?” She sounds shocked and I roll my eyes blowing it off as no big deal as if it didn’t take multiple tries just to do this one stupid thing.
“It was easy, I just didn’t know what you liked but I do remember you bringing fresh strawberries over one day and saying they’re your favorite.” Proud of myself for remembering, but given I tend to remember everything involving Billie. Her awed face breaks off into a grin as she throws her arms around me, almost knocking over her juice. I couldn’t care at all at this moment.
“This is so sweet.” She gushes and I chuckle, my face burning brighter than her hair. Be cool, Arwen, be cool.
“Of course, you deserve it.” She smells like lavender and honey. So sweet. My heart soars in my chest as I finally see that familiar spark alight in her eyes as she tries the food.
“This is delicious!” Billie gushes, and I breathe out a sigh of relief.
“Thank god I didn’t accidentally poison you.” She chuckles and pops a strawberry in her mouth. I run a hand through my hair.
“Do you wanna stay for today? It’s Saturday so I’m sure we could find something to do.” Please say yes. I watch as she considers my offer and glances around my messy and cluttered room. Jeez, is it really that bad? Yeah, yeah it is.
“Yeah, sure.” She breaks off in a yawn making me roll my eyes. Billie blushes and tries to fix her crazy hair.
“Sorry I just haven’t slept this well in ages.” I wonder if she remembers her nightmare. Do people remember bad dreams? I don’t even know. I flop down on the bed beside her.
“Don’t apologize for getting sleep, you needed it.” She snorts slightly and passes me the plate.
“You worked hard on this so I figured I might as well share.” I stare at the plate, left with an egg, a piece of toast, and a couple of berries. How is she this sweet? This kind-hearted? I can’t imagine a more beautiful person. Billie raises her brow and I realize I’ve been staring at her this whole time.
“Oh uh, thanks.” I stammer and act foolish. God get it together Arwen. You could act like more of a lovesick puppy.
She has me wrapped around her finger and doesn’t even know it.
