Treyton arrived home from work, and it was a busy day since he had a lot of paperwork and meetings regarding the stats of his business. He also had a Zoom meeting with his pack's council that regarded the pack's status, application from rogues to join, and the Christmas Party. It was a lot for Treyton, and it became stressful since he usually had Garret assist with his responsibilities. However, the Alpha temporarily stripped Garret's position as Beta, but it didn't mean he couldn't give other responsibilities like lower rank members.
The day was torturous for the older man because he couldn't see Maeve. He knew she had returned to work and hoped she was okay. Treyton wanted to text her to find out how she was, but he didn't want to overwhelm her. The Alpha knew he was moving too fast, but his werewolf side was getting restless, and his age was a factor. Older werewolves who don't have or have found their mate become more desperate and would make them do desperate measures. It was a miracle that Treyton could contain his need for Maeve.
The Alpha got to his living room, turning on the television to see what was on. He then heard Aidoneus leave his room as he finished an online class. His son's date was yesterday, and it was mentioned that everything went well, but Treyton knew something was amiss. Something bothered his son; Treyton wanted to know but decided not to force Aidoneus to tell him. "Hello son, finished with your class?"
The young werewolf nodded as he went to the kitchen and got a water bottle. "Yeah, it was simple, and I finished what was needed. Next week, classes will be finished and we have Winter Break off. Anyway, how was your day at work, Pops?"
"Tiring, I had a lot of things to do and plan."
Aidonues sat close to his Father. "How is the mate pull? Was it difficult to be away from Maeve?"
Treyton nodded as he wolfishly groaned. "She was on my mind throughout the entirety of the day. My wolf side is getting desperate; I need to find a way to tell Maeve the truth about my identity. Nothing is coming to mind."
"Hmm, what about taking her on a hiking date? A trail where there wouldn't be too many people. I would do that if I wanted to show my werewolf side."
The older man considered the suggestion; Treyton thought it was a good idea. However, he thought the middle of nowhere would be too private, making Maeve feel unsafe. That was when an idea hit him: "I can take her to Big Bear. I would always take a run whenever we stayed there since the forests are vast. Also it's the season when the small Christmas town is opened."
"Pops, won't many people be there since it's getting closer to the holidays?"
"The hotels, cabins, and other campsites are booked, but many kids are still in school. I can take Maeve on a Saturday. Maeve and I can take a walk near the cabin I own in Big Bear. Your mother and Nicolas will arrive on Friday, so it won't cause too much of a hassle."
Aidoneus raised an eyebrow. "Wow, so mom and her mate will stay in the cabin? I didn't know that. Wait a minute, does Maeve know about mom coming by to visit?"
Treyton sat silently; he was so consumed with telling Maeve about his identity that the topic of his ex-wife went into the back of his mind. "I-I forgot about that. I think I should concentrate on telling her about my identity first. Once Maeve accepts me, I will tell her about Callista visiting for the Christmas party."
"But you also need to introduce her to the pack. If you and Maeve will be assured, then wouldn't she need to be introduced? Maeve is human, and we will have a human Luna for the first time in our pack's history."
Treyton did another annoyed, wolfish groan. There were many things he had to do after exposing his identity. The Alpha wanted everything done before the pack's party and holidays. However, Maeve may need time to take the truth of werewolves' existence; time was running out. "You're right; I need to act fast. Son, I know I punished you for spying on me, but if you do me the favor of sending a Zoom link to all pack members, we have an emergency meeting at 8 p.m."
"Sure, anything to help you out. I was getting kind of bored of not helping out. This is the worst punishment you ever gave me since I took of Santa's beard and accidentally made him fall."
Father and son chuckled. "It was your mother's idea since you did embarrass that poor old man. Anyway, I would appreciate your help." Treyton stood up and walked toward the door. "I'll be right back; I'm going to see Maeve."
Aidoneus raised an eyebrow. "Huh? Why?"
"To ask if she wants to go to Big Bear with me."
"Isn't it easier to call her? I mean, she probably got home from work and is exhausted."
The Alpha got his keys, phone, and wallet. "I know but I think it would be better to ask her in person. I'm not going to stay for long."
The young man chuckled and smirked. "You just want to see her since your wolf is desperate. Geez, I guess the mate pull gets worse when one gets old. Should I order takeout out or would you like me to cook something?"
"Order some Italian. I won't be gone for long." Treyton got what he needed, walked out of his house, got inside his car, and drove off. When he drove off on the freeway, he felt slightly regretful. The traffic was horrendous; the cars almost touched one another. Treyton began to feel impatient; he'd been stuck in traffic for over thirty minutes. Luckily, the Alpha was beside an exit and decided to take the streets. It took longer, but the traffic wasn't as terrible. Another thirty minutes later, he arrived at his destination and parked his car. "Huff, finally here! My son was right; I will call next time."
Treyton walked to the front door of Maeve's car and knocked. He waited and noticed Maeve's car, indicating she was home. There was no answer; Treyton was about to knock again until the door was opened. To his surprise, it wasn't Maeve who answered the door but someone else, an older woman. "Oh, um, hello, ma'am. Is Maeve home?"
"Yes, she is in the restroom now and you must by Treyton."
"Uh, yes, ma'am. Who might you be?"
"I'm Laoise, Maeve's mother."
