Episode 38 Finale - The Escape
“I was looking for you!” Claudia said as we pushed open the bedroom door.
I immediately shrank behind the wall, holding myself into the shadows.
Scarlet gazed over at her then, eyes glistening. “Oh! Sorry… I was getting ready to leave, is all.”
“Why?” Claudia said then, voice dark as if sad.
“Well… it’s a dark night and I keep bothering you,” Scarlet responded kindly. “I hate being a bother.”
Claudia shook her head heavily. “Nonsense! Don’t say such things!” She gazed up then. “You would never be a bother! It’s still pouring out there. Stay! Stay until morning, at least.”
“If you insist.” Scarlet bowed her head, acting apologetic. “I am sorry for disturbing your sleep.”
Claudia just shook her head again. “Never apologize for such things! But you need your sleep, trust me on this. Please, Scarlet. Get some rest, alright? All this worrying isn’t good for you.”
Scarlet bowed again. “Yes, ma’am.”
She then turned and opened the bedroom door, entering the room seconds later.
When I heard Claudia’s footsteps tap away, I slipped in the room behind her.
Scarlet closed the door behind me then, eyes going back to their darkened sternness. “We must go, correct?”
I nodded.
She then opened the bedroom window, blasting rain into the room.
I stepped over to it, immediately jumping onto the sill and throwing myself into the night. I clutched the suitcase and master’s eye patch tightly, holding them close to me.
I felt Scarlet follow after me.
We landed silently onto the forest ground and dashed into the woods.
*****
We were far into the forest now, continuously running with no desire to look back.
I clutched the suitcase in my hand tightly, holding master’s eye patch in the other.
Scarlet clearly had a massive number of stamina because we’d been running for twenty minutes, and she wasn’t faltering in the slightest.
That’s why I chose her for this mission; Maddox might’ve been an assassin, as well, but Scarlet was skilled with acting and running. She could make an epic escape.
But—as we continued further into the woods—the rain slowed, the clouds washing away ever so slowly as the morning sun peeked out just behind the horizon.
It was morning now… as of this time, master had been mindless for three days. We were extremally lucky today because of the storm, and Edward would be preoccupied until later tonight, so he wouldn’t intervene with his lovely time. The timing of our plan was perfect, calculated, and executed amazingly.
I finally slowed my running as we neared a river, and Scarlet followed.
When we reached a stop by the riverside, I glanced around before looking back at her. “It seems as if we made it five miles from Claudia’s manor. We should be safe now. She would not be able to find us in these woods, this far from her manor either.”
Scarlet nodded, once.
I just set the suitcase down. “The blanket?” I held out my hand.
She gave it to me, clearly holding it the whole time.
I caught it and flipped it out, spreading it among the dampened ground before going to the suitcase.
I clicked open the locks and opened the case, exposing Yumi’s curled body as she remained asleep.
But I just lifted her out and set her body on the blanket, watching her remain lifeless.
I didn’t waste a second, I just caught onto her eye patch and set it over her eye, tying it behind her head before looking back down at her.
Scarlet’s body shook with anticipation, and I stared down at master carefully… watching… waiting.
“Master, come back…” I said quietly, brushing my thumb along her cheekbone. “You have your soul now. Accept it.”
There was silence, and my brows drew together when Yumi lay below me like snow white… waiting to be woken… broken… lifeless…
Until she wasn’t.
Because her eye twitched, and I heard Scarlet gasp.
But Yumi just parted her eye, moaning softly as if she woke from sleeping.
She glanced around the forest before looking back at me. “Sebas…tian?”
Scarlet threw herself forward and hugged Yumi, making Yumi squeal when Scarlet buried her face in Yumi’s shoulder and held her tightly.
“Okay… that’s enough,” Yumi said then.
Scarlet let go, staring into master’s eyes as she breathed shakily. “Sorry, I got excited.”
Yumi looked at me then, watching me carefully. “Why am I in a forest?”
I remained calm despite my entire being shattering and piecing together. “It seems as if your soul was taken from me, master.”
She blinked. “Huh?”
“Three nights ago,” I explained, “you and I kissed. Afterward, your body went lifeless. For a second, I thought it was because I kissed you and our contract was fulfilled, so you needed another contract to wake you again. But your soul was gone.”
She stared at me in concern. “What happened to it?”
“It transferred to your eye patch,” I explained. “Sometimes… when the soul thinks its body has ended, it transfers before reincarnation. So, it transferred to your eye patch… which was stolen by Edward while I wasn’t looking. And then he hid it in a manor in hopes I wouldn’t notice, but he underestimates me.”
Yumi blinked and gazed around hazily, but she looked back at me. “So if I take this eye patch off… my soul will vanish from me?”
I smiled and shook my head. “No, master. Your soul went back inside you when you made contact with the eye patch. It is now back, my lord.”
She gazed down then, touching the eye patch carefully. “How mad were you?”
Scarlet looked away as if she knew.
I closed my eyes and smiled sharply. “Beyond measure.”
