IV
It was 1300 on the dot as he stood behind the door of the cafe that he had been to just the day before, holding onto the handle as he questioned whether seeing her again was a good idea.
From where he stood, he could see her sitting down, fixing her hair with a handheld mirror.
"Are you going in?" someone asked him from behind. He turned to face the person as he allowed him to enter the cafe.
He continued to watch her as she adjusted her clothes. He closed his eyes as he cursed under his breath before entering the cafe.
"Over here," she called out to him as if he hadn't seen her.
With an emotionless face, he walked towards her and sat down.
"Do you want to drink something? My treat," she told him.
"Coffee. Black."
She nodded her head before walking away from the table.
I wish you would give me the chance to at least try to make it up to you.
He remembered what she had written to him as he questioned whether even considering it was right.
After all, she was the person who had forced him to swear to never fall in love again why would he ever want anything to do with her?
The sound of a mug being placed on the table caused his thoughts to disappear as he saw her return to her seat. She smiled at him.
"Coffee. Black. As you ordered," she said, imitating the way that he had spoken earlier. He slowly reached for the mug and took a sip before placing it back down.
"Why did you call me out here?" he asked her as if he didn't already know. He watched as she swallowed nervously before speaking.
"Yesterday, you said you wouldn't forgive me if I apologized. So I decided to make it up to you. Anything you say, I'll do it."
"Why should I let you—"
"Because...Because I really am sorry. And it's okay if you don't want to forgive me. But I want to at least try something even if you're not going to forgive me."
He took another sip of his coffee and just looked at her without saying anything. As he watched her, he could tell that she was getting nervous with every moment that he didn't speak.
"So what do you say?" she asked after a few moments of silence.
"You'd do anything?" he asked.
She nodded.
He sighed deeply as with a straight voice, he said,
"Be my date."
