A nice quiet evening, the chirping of crickets, subtle movements of the grass blowing North, a few ants scurrying about atop the blades with an occasional lady bug flying by, over the grass and past a dirt road. A road, mostly dirt with some gravel, stretching out of a nearby town, several signs up along the path with indicated arrows for direction, though walking down the path, two people casual in a stroll.
The moon crescent overhead, the subtle sound of crickets and barking of dogs, a man and a woman walking, chatting with one another.
“I’ve had a great time tonight David.”
“Heh heh, it’s definitely been a good one. Gonna be better once we get back to your place eh?”
“Oh hush, haha.”
A crisp breeze, now flowing through the area as they’ve continue outward, slowly as the path stretched on and on. A curved path, starting at the beginning going off of a road in town and then curving around about a quarter mile to then curve back three blocks down. At the curve, a nice playground type area for kids, picnic tables, and a nice view of the nearby lake, the water moving the waves on the surface, the silver reflection of the moon set on the water.
“That’s so pretty David! Can we take a closer look?”
“I don’t know… it’s sort of not good to be out for much longer around here.”
“Oh please, come on!”
“Oh… fine.”
“Yayzies!”
Rushing ahead, the girl quickly targeted the lake, moving in close with David moving slowly behind, cautious.
“[Damn… I hope nothing happens, nothing better happen],” he’d keep thinking.
With a few casual steps forward and subtle glances around, noticing nothing out of the ordinary, a sigh would escape his breath, now walking forward towards the woman.
“Cindy, I don’t think we should be out here for long. It’s not safe this time of night.”
“Oh David, don’t worry about it, that sorta stuff just happens in movies.”
“Uh, no, it really doesn’t.”
A subtle scratch of the back of his head, “[This girl… isn’t that brilliant].”
Walking up beside her, he’d look down at the water reflecting.
“Isn’t this nice? Just you and me?”
“Yes… but we really shouldn’t stay out. It gets seriously dangerous out here.”
“Oh David, that never happens outside of movies.”
“Babe, it totally does. Just because I get high doesn’t mean that I don’t know what I’m talking about, it means the opposite.”
“Oh pul-leeeeze.”
The snapping of a branch off in the distance would then send David into alert mode, his head darting around followed by another. Off to the right, a set of eyes looking at them, parting some bushes, Cindy totally unaware.
“Hey!”
The bushes would part as a man stepped forward, Cindy’s head turning to stare down the barrel of a gun a fair distance away, gun cocked, the man masked, “Gimme all your money if you know what’s good for you or I’ll put two clips in the both of you.”
“Hey hey buddy, just calm down, no need to hurt us.”
“Now I mean it, hand over your money!”
“Eek! David, what’s going on!?”
“We’re being mugged, I told you it was dangerous!”
“Oh my god I don’t want to die!”
“Alright you two, shut the hell up!”
The man got closer, holding his gun now towards David, “You, big guy, you’re gonna walk away now or I’ll put one in your head,” he grunted, about two feet away from David at this point, gun to his head.
“Hey, buddy, better idea.”
“Whazzat?”
Bending back in a fall, David would kick up at the man’s arm, the jolt sending the arm up as he stumbled backwards, pulling the trigger firing one, then a sweep kick at the man’s feet to knock him right on over onto his back, gun spilling off to the side.
With a flip and a mild leap, David landed right on top of the man and immediately went into punching him, left right left, slug in the gut and the face.
“David, stop that! Dude!!” Cindy cried out.
On the twentieth swing, blood swarming out of the man’s nose as his head tilted to the side, moaning, David stood, looking to her, “Why?!”
“David you fucking creep, you didn’t have to do that!”
“He was trying to mug us, I had to do something!”
“You know what, it’s over you and I, we’re through!” she cried, running off down the path sobbing, leaving David gawking.
“What… the fuck!? I just saved you and this is what I get for risking my fucking neck!? You dumb bitch!!”

As he stood there, red in the face and a little watery eyed, his fate was more or less shared, a friend close also sobbing over a loss just the same… Andrea, in her bed curled up, a text reading ‘it’s over babe, fnd new girl, hotter, we done cool?’
