"Don't worry about me, mom, I'll be back before you know it!"

"Okay, just be careful Jyndaya, I don't want to hear about your death on any galactic news station!"

"You won't, I swear you won't!"

"Good, just know that your father and I love you very much and we hope you have a great time!"

"Thanks mom, I love you too."

The last conversation I will have for a long time with my mom played through my head as I sat in my ship. I'm still not far away but I already feel like I'm light years from home. 

My ship sat silently in the carrier ship's docking bay. I sighed and looked out my windows, getting one last look at the hunk of junk I used to call home. 

It's not gonna be home for long.

*tap tap tap*

I jumped in my seat and looked to my right. One of the flight technicians was standing outside my window; he must have scared me. He waved to me and pointed to his watch. I smiled and nodded, then waved him off. It was time for me to leave.

I took a deep breath in and put my ship key in its designated hole. I turned the key and the satisfying whirr of the engine rang in my ears. I let my breath out. 

I put my hands on the ship's wheel and rubbed the rubber with my thumbs. I spent 2 years as a server on this home ship, saving up for this ship, and now I finally have it, signalling that it's my time to leave home. 

I moved my right hand to the throttle control. I took one more second and closed my eyes. I imagined all the places I'll visit, all the people, aliens I'll meet, all the money I'll earn. I opened my eyes and pushed the throttle forward.

The engine hummed with life as my ship started to lift off the ground. It stalled in the air for a moment before taking off forward at an alarming speed. That takeoff pushed me back into my seat. I'll need to get used it this.

I was quickly through the blue ship barrier that kept in all our oxygen and into the vast blackness of space. I've heard from other travelers that other star systems have different colored space and different colored skies. I smiled at the thought of seeing green as a background color instead of black. 

I traveled through space for a few minutes, making sure I was out of the way of my old home ship. I looked to my dashboard and found my hyperdrive system. It was loaded with one warp cell, enough to get me through one jump to a different star system. I sighed and pressed the go button on the dashboard. A map came up showing me all the different star systems in range. I closed my eyes and touched a random one. 

My eyes wouldn't open. As hard as I tried my eyes wouldn't open. I started to panic, my breathing quickening. I felt my ship start to move fast and I was pushed into my seat even harder than before. I couldn't open my eyes and I could feel tears trying to break through the barrier. 

The feeling of my ship moving eventually ended. My heart rate slowed and so did my breathing. My eyes still wouldn't open but I was now okay with it. I let the darkness envelop me and I fell into a deep sleep.

Time for a whole new life.
