What normally comes to mind when one thinks of Seattle is rain, or the Space Needle, or iCarly. What doesn’t often hold a place in the way the world thought of the city were the chimeras that came out when the rain stopped. Though the Legion was kept quite busy on those sunny days, dodging flame and the like.
On one such sunny day, should someone have flown above Lake City, Seattle they might have seen a girl with dark, wild hair crouching atop a roof, her bow and arrow in hand, keeping one of these devilish creatures occupied while another girl, this one with curly, short, rose-gold hair; onyx skin, and a sword that seemed to glow with the light of the moon in hand, approached from the street.
Leonessa Nardelli watched her partner Nikini Salazar sneak down the street, pausing for a moment at the corner to peak around. Niki pulled a moonstone throwing knife from the holster at her thigh, and, in one fluid motion, whipped around the corner and sent it flying into the chimera’s goat’s eye
The chimera howled and sent a blast of fiery breath towards Niki. She launched herself back behind the corner. But, before the Chimera could follow, Nessa sent a bolt flying toward its chest.
It missed the heart by two inches. Nessa quickly sent another arrow after the first, and this one met its mark. The chimera’s lionhead roared once, before it erupted into flames and disappeared.
Niki grinned and gave Nessa an okay sign with her fingers. Nessa hooked a grapple over the side of the roof, before rappelling down quickly. Nikini sheathed her moonstone sword, Excalibur, as she made her way across the street towards Nessa. People began to move about the streets as they had been before the chimera had shown up, giving nods of thanks to the legionnaires.
As Nessa slung her bow across her back, Niki pulled out her phone to check the time. “You missed it’s heart on the first shot, which means I win the bet, which means we have an hour till our date, that is enough time to go to your house, and shower and change.”
Nessa groaned inwardly. She hated double dates, but Niki was insistent that she needed to go on dates, and also knew that Nessa would make no effort of her own. Niki and her girlfriend, Riko, had been setting her up on double dates with them at least once a week for the last three months. None had stuck out to her, she was honestly surprised that they had managed to find so many guys.
She forced a smile. “Sounds good.”
They began walking down the street, towards the nearby bus station
“So,” Niki started. “Am I mistaken in seeing your little brother at the front desk in headquarters today? I’m fairly sure he should be at school.”
Nessa sighed. “It’s all a part of my pop’s plan to convince Luca to become a legionnaire.”
“Luca’s six.”
“I started training for the Legion when I was seven.” Nessa said. “Luca is currently determined to be an archeologist, but, considering last week he wanted to be a basketball player, and last month he wanted to be a veterinarian, I doubt it will last long.”
Niki laughed. “I wanted to be an archeologist when I was little, too. Now look at me, I fight monsters for a living.”
“Well, then there’s still hope for my dad’s dream of all of the Nardellis joining the Legion and heading up a unit together.” Nessa said. They boarded the bus and moved to sit on the back bench. Nessa leaned her head on Niki’s shoulder. “Tell me about my date.”
“His name is Scott, he’s a senior at Seattle University, majoring in economics.” Niki began ticking off the facts about him. Nessa fell asleep to the sound of her voice. “He’s into art, but, like, the stuff that’s just, like, one color and you’re supposed to interpret it, but it’s really just a block of red…”
