I witnessed my brother’s death at the hands of the Gilberts and then the Bennett witch locked me in their house with a spell. I’ve been in here all night raging because of what they’ve done to Kol. At least I was just going to dagger him! But there he lays, dead.
All of a sudden, my heightened hearing picked up on sounds coming from outside of the house.
What’s that? Footsteps?
Dammit, I could tell that it was Tyler by his scent. Ironically he wasn’t being accompanied by my beloved Caroline. Very interesting.
“Morning sunshine, you look pathetic.”
Ugh what I wouldn’t give to tear his bloody head straight off. The only person standing in between Tyler and his death is Caroline, he had better be grateful.
“Only until Bonnie’s spell locking me in here wears off,” I replied as I tried to stay calm. “Then I’ll look different, angrier perhaps. Or I won’t look like anything because I’ll have gouged your eyes from their sockets!”
“My friends will be back with the cure by then,” he said. “So I can shove it down your throat and make you mortal.”
“I’m an original. What makes you think my entire vampire bloodline won’t be cured along with me, i.e. you.”
“You know what I think?”
No I don’t care, actually.
“I think that’s impossible. I think the moment you stop being a vampire, our whole blood connection to you is broken and our sire-line ceases to exist. So what happens to you, only happens to you. Which means I can kill your ass and no one has to die.”
“And you know what I think?” I was sick of hearing his voice. “I think that deep down, Caroline has feelings for me too. I think you know this and it terrifies you that one day, she will leave you for me. I also think you should be kissing the ground she walks on because she is the only reason your mother is still alive. The jury’s still out on you though.”
“HOW DARE YOU?!” He yelled in indignation. “Caroline was never more than a tool to use as a distraction for you. She loves me and that will never change.”
“Oh it’ll change when she finds out that Hayley indeed has feelings for you. No matter how many times you deny it, something happened between the two of you when you broke my sire bond.”
“You’re the villain here, Klaus. There’s no way Caroline would ever willingly fall for you,” Tyler said. “You’d need witches to cast some spell on her for my girl to ever give you a chance.”
In anger I ripped some wood from a piece of furniture and launched it through the welp’s stomach. I didn’t want to hear another word out of his worthless mouth.
In reality I didn’t want to think about the truth in his words. I have done nothing to prove that I deserve Caroline’s affections. I just hope one day she’ll find it in her heart to give me a chance.
Just as he fell to the floor, Hayley burst through the door.
“TYLER!” She yelled. “No no no!”
This is just bloody fantastic, she would come here searching for him. If only my dear Caroline was here to witness this turn of events.
I watched in irritation as she pulled out the piece of wood that was lodged into his stomach.
“Hayley, what are you doing here? You’re partly responsible for all the hybrids dying. Go away, I don’t want to see you.”
Ahh, that’s right. I almost forgot that little runt is responsible for the demise of my hybrid army.
“Tyler, I know you hate me—
“Go away!” He yelled cutting her off.
“What happened between us is something I can’t forget. I definitely don’t regret it and deep down, I know you don’t either. I love you, and I will spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to you. Please, let me help you.”
“Why should I?” He asked.
“If you don’t return my feelings, I’ll leave you here and you’ll never have to see me again.”
Oh wow a proclamation of love, will you look at that.
“But if you do return my feelings, even if it’s just a little bit, then please. Let me help you.”
I watched the scene unfold before me and I wasn’t even surprised as he let the girl help him remove the rest of the wood from his body.
They stood together and opened the door to leave. I looked anywhere other than at the cheating duo, not wanting to see the couple get a happy ending.
“Tyler?”
My head snapped up at the sound of her voice. It was Caroline and apparently, she heard more than enough by the expression on her beautiful face. I have no idea how long she was even here, I was so distracted by the welp and his whore.
“Wow. Deep down, I always knew that something happened between the two of you but I didn’t have any proof. Guess I do now, huh? I’m done with all of this bullshit and you.”
Before Tyler could say anything to her, she vanished.
I fucking knew it.
I was right all along.
Tyler and Hayley had a thing in those motherfucking mountains and he had the audacity to lie to me about it. Too much has happened and this is just the tip of the iceberg! I heard everything that idiot said when he first came to gloat in Klaus’ face. I heard all about how I was just a tool to use as hybrid bait. I should have known all along that our relationship was doomed from the start.
Naturally, I went home to bawl my eyes out after everything I heard and witnessed today.
To make matters worse, I hadn’t even really had a chance to deal with Kol’s death and I had no idea how to break the news to Angelique, with whom I had a solid friendship with now… or Katherine, who would no doubt tell Elijah. But, of course, I have to set aside my current feelings and the fact that my love life is in fucking shambles for a plan that dear ole Elena indirectly called into action. So, of course, Shane kidnaps Bonnie and Jeremy, which obviously means I have to do something about it.
Funnily enough, Bonnie still went to help out Elena and Jeremy after the talk we just had. But, I think that’s more because Shane had her all caught up in expression magic. I knew she should have taken a break long before the second time we talked.
Anyway, apparently the gang needed me to go consult Klaus’ most-likely gloating ass about reading the sword. The thing was old as dirt and no doubt the cocky original hybrid could help me out. He probably would be more inclined to do so now that Tyler is out of my life…
Walking right back inside Elena’s house like I owned the place, I saw Klaus sitting there all lonely. Aww
“I need your help.”
“With what, love?” He asked. I could see the mischievous glint in his eyes. I rolled mine.
“I’m not in the mood for whatever snarky comments you may or may not have regarding my love life… uh, lack there of. Whatever.” I huffed nervously.
I couldn’t let myself think about whatever had him smirking like a Cheshire Cat. If I did, I’d have to admit something to myself that I wasn’t quite ready to yet.
“I need help with the sword and the map,” I said. “I figured since these hunters are almost as old as you, I could come to you for a little help.”
“Bring me my sword, love.”
I stepped into the barrier with him and handed over the sword. It didn’t take us long to find out what everything meant, so I called Rebekah to let her know we were ready to send the information over.
“Hello?” She said answering my call.
“Hey, it’s Caroline. We have the translation of the tattoo, we’re emailing you pictures of the map and instructions right now.”
I sat the phone down as I typed away on my computer.
“Got it, thanks.”
“Actually, it was me.” Klaus just couldn’t let the phone call go without taking credit for everything.
“Nik, you helped?”
“You sound so surprised, little sister.” I could hear the pout in his tone just as much as I could see it.
“Shouldn’t I be? I mean, you don’t want me to be human. You don’t want any of us to be human. Why would you help us find the cure?”
“Maybe I finally realized the longer I stand in the way of what you want, the longer you’ll continue to hate me. Perhaps, I want my sister to finally know happiness,” he said.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. What is this man playing at?
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a hundred times—
“No more fooling. No more games,” he said cutting her off. “I hope you get to live, and die, as you wish.”
“So do I.”
“There is one more thing, Rebekah. There is only one dose of the cure, you need to find it first and take it. It’s the only way you’ll—
I hung up the phone.
“Oh my Gawd, Klaus!” I exclaimed before slapping him on the arm. “The cure was for Elena!”
“Why should Elena have the monopoly on the cure?” He asked.
“Don’t you want more hybrids?” I asked. He looked down, I could tell I struck a nerve. “Well?”
“At this point, it wouldn’t even matter. I killed all the hybrids I had left and my siblings would rather be off gallivanting around the world than be around me,” he said. “The only way to make amends with them all is to start with Rebekah. She may still hate me after but at least she’ll get what she wants.”
“That’s probably the best thing you could do for her.” I never thought I’d see the day he did something remotely selfless.
“Klaus?”
“Hmm?” He turned to face me.
“I’m sorry about your brother,” I said placing a hand on his. “Kol and I were friends actually, if you can believe it. He and a couple of others kept me from losing my mind when I thought Tyler, and you, were dead. I just thought you should know.”
I could tell he didn’t know what to say when he just nodded.
I grabbed my cell phone.
I knew that I would have to convince him not to kill Tyler one of these days, even though the bastard broke my heart. I hated him in this moment but I didn’t wish death on him, so I sent a text.
Leave town and don’t come back. Or else, Klaus will kill you.
That’s the only warning I could bring myself to give him at this time. I’d plead for his life another day.
“Caroline.”
“Yes, Klaus?” I turned to look at him.
“You seem different. And not because of what just happened today. You seem freer somehow. More comfortable in your vampire skin.”
“That’s because I am, Klaus.” I smiled as I stared off into space. “I really am.”
Ever since my stent in the Crescent City, I feel more in control of me. Like I am one step closer to unapologetically being the vampire badass I am.
I stood up to leave. There was no reason to go through some awkward goodbye and I knew he would be safe until the spell wore off. Besides, it was high time that I go home.
Picking up my things, I walked toward the door. Ironically, I couldn’t get through the barrier.
“What’s wrong, love?” He asked.
I tried to leave again and again, banging my hand against the invisible wall repeatedly. It was clear that I wasn’t going anywhere.
“I have no idea what’s up with the barrier spell. It’s only supposed to keep you here, not me!”
“Should you call your witch friend?” He asked. “Maybe she has the answer.”
“Yeah, let me do that—
All of a sudden, one of Klaus’ bones cracked.
He looked at me with shock in his gaze before a few more of his bones broke.
Terror gripped me in my spine. Surely he wasn’t going to be forced to turn while I’m stuck with him in here.
His eyes changed from sea foam green to black and gold.
Shit! He really was going to turn.
I did the only thing I thought I could. I broke a chair and stabbed him in the stomach. He looked shocked to say the least but the transformation seemed to be stalled.
“Caroline, quick!” He exclaimed pointing at another leg from the broken chair. “Stab me again!”
I did. Two more times, actually.
“Thank you.”
I nodded, emotionally and physically exhausted. It really has been a trying day. He definitely would’ve ended up killing me if he went full wolf in here.
Against my better judgement, I sat down next to him.
All of a sudden, his breathing sounded labored. His head had lolled to the side.
“Klaus?” I took his face in my hands. “Klaus! Are you okay?”
“No, I am not okay you insolent child. This boy is clearly in love with you,” a voice that did not belong to Klaus said. “My son is an abomination and does not deserve you. So, I will take you from him.”
Oh. My. Gawd.
I scrambled away from him. Mikael just took over Klaus’ body and threatened my entire existence.
I tried to vamp run away but, in my haste, I forgot all about the barrier as it kept me inside of the living room with a heartless monster.
I felt Mikael grab me by my neck. Before I do anything to stop him, he sunk Klaus’ teeth into me. He drank a lot of my blood before tossing me to the ground like a rag doll. I watched as he removed the wooden chair legs from his person and strolled straight through the barrier.
“The lack of blood in your body will cause my worthless bastard of a son’s venom to work even faster,” he said looking back at me with uncontainable glee. It looked all wrong on Klaus’ face. “Niklaus won’t be able to forgive himself when he finally wakes.”
I was getting weaker and weaker by the second.
Dammit.
The last thing I saw was Mikael leaving the Gilbert house in Klaus’ body before my vision faded to black.
