OH MY GAWD.
That emotionless witch stole my prom dress! Ugh, what I wouldn't give to just wring her little neck, twice!
That's why I'm back here at Klaus' house to convince him to help me out with this serious issue.
I walked in like I owned the place but he wasn't answering when I called his name.
"Klaus!" I exclaimed when I walked into his living room. "Hellooo? Did you not hear me."
"Of course I heard you, Caroline." Uh-oh, he was in a mood. "I think the whole of Mystic Falls heard you. I'm in no mood for company."
"Well, I'm sorry that you're having personal issues, but I have a real crisis on my hands." This was serious matter! He has to help me out here. "Elena stole my prom dress! I went to pick it up and the tailor said that somebody else already did. When I asked who, she said she couldn't remember."
He's tired of me, I can tell.
"Hello? The vervain is out of the town water supply, she was compelled!"
He started smiling and chuckling. Is he laughing at me??
"It is not funny."
"I know, I know." He's still laughing though, so obviously he does think it's funny.
"Then stop laughing," I said. "Look, I know that prom isn't important to you, but it's important to me."
"Surely finding another dress is well within your substantial vampire capabilities," he said.
"But I don't want just another dress," I whined. "I wanna look hot, like Princess Grace of Monaco, hot."
"So..." I trailed off as I stepped closer to him. "Could you please go back into your creepy trophy case of family collectibles and dig me out something of royal caliber?"
Yes, I got him. I could tell that he would help me out. Whenever he looks at me like that, I know I can get him to do whatever I want.
"You'll have to give me something in return," he said with his hands clasped behind his back.
Hmm. I didn't expect him to say that.
"And what's that?" I asked.
"A kiss."
I opened and closed my mouth.
"You didn't think I would forget about that kiss the other day... or the day I made you co—
"Yes, yes, I remember." I huffed in response. "I figured that you would just remember the whole Silas Jedi-mind trick thing."
He nodded with a knowing smile.
"And, just so I'm clear, you haven't forgotten about what happened at the Gilbert residence correct?" He just loved making me squirm. Jokes on him. "A kiss for the dress, what do you say?"
"Just one?" I asked.
"Unless, of course, you want to do more...
I rolled my eyes.
"Ugh, just come here." I grabbed him by the shirt and laid one on him.
I felt his tongue run across my bottom lip asking for entry. I accepted. I still couldn't believe how amazing a kisser he was. I mean, he's had plenty of experience so it makes sense.
I groaned into his mouth before pushing him away.
"You got your kiss, now go get me my dress?"
He smirked looking rather pleased with himself.
"Wait here," he said before leaving the room.
I heard rustling behind me.
"Oooo Care-Bear and Klausy, sitting in a tree..." a familiar voice said. "This is a new development. Way better than that other hybrid that broke your heart, if ya ask me. I like this!"
"Katherine??" I asked incredulously. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Hold on, where the hell is Klaus?"
All of a sudden, he had her pinned against the wall.
"Now, give me one reason why I shouldn't rip your heart out right now!"
"The cure... I have. The. Cure." She barely choked out.
I looked down and saw the velvet box, it had fallen out of her hands. I picked it up and opened it. The swirling liquid capturing my attention.
"Woah, so this is the cure?" I asked. Both of their heads snapped in my direction. "Klaus, do me a favor? Put her down."
He looked at me strangely before letting the doppelgänger go. Can't believe that work, haha. I walked up to the girl, sizing her up.
"It's been a minute, Kitty Kat."
She smirked at me before giving me a tight hug.
When she pulled back, I back handed her.
"Damn, Care-Bear. What was that for?"
"The fuck do you mean?" I asked incredulously, missing Klaus' shocked expression at my vulgar language. "Does Jeremy Gilbert ring any bells?"
"Oh yeahh." She had the decency to look a little ashamed. "Lijah ripped me a new one for that. He's so pissed at me right now."
"Hold on," Klaus said. "What the bloody hell is going on here? Are you two... friends??"
"Ehh," I said with a shrug. "She killed me, I'm over it. So Kitty Kat, why are you here again?"
"I was trying to trade the cure for my life..."
"Oh," I said with a laugh. "Have fun with that."
I tossed Klaus the vial.
"So, what do you have to say for yourself?" He asked before I interrupted him.
"Well, as much as I'd like to watch this... I've gotta go, Klaus. Prom and such," I said. "Don't do anything stupid like kill her or something. She might be more useful to you alive than dead."
He seemed to take my words under consideration, I really hoped he did. As much as I wanted the cure for Elena's crazy ass, I remembered that his sister wanted it too. Annnnnd, I needed Kitty Kat alive. We're business partners, remember? She's been sending me checks every month to show for it.
"Thank you for the dress," I said leaning over him to whisper in his ear. "And, maybe give the cure to your sister. That would be the first step in making amends, which also prevents Silas from getting what he wants..."
My gawd... just when I thought the night was going to turn out being a great one, it didn't end up that way. Prom was terrible. Bonnie and Elena tried to kill each other, Silas was manipulating everybody, it was a complete shit show. Damon and Stefan were now on Elena duty. Bonnie was off who knows where. Matt was taking care of April because, oh yeah, Elena tried to kill her too.
I wanted someone outside of this high school drama to talk to, and that's how I ended up right back at Klaus' house. Kind of like a moth being drawn to a roaring flame.
"Prom wasn't everything you dreamed of?" He asked as I walked into the living room still wearing my new dress.
I sighed. "Not really." I plopped down onto his couch.
"By all means, make yourself comfortable."
"Oh, I will." I crossed my arms over my chest and stuck my nose in the air, before groaning with irritation.
"Come here," he said with his arms opened for me.
Against my better judgment, I crawled into his arms. Instead of pushing him away, why not just give in? I like him. There, I said it. I like him. It's probably more than like but baby steps... I'm also absolutely not going to tell him this, at least not right now. I need to find something to talk about, though and fast.
"I have a question."
"What is it, love?" He asked.
"How did you deal with Katherine?"
"Well, she begged for her life. It was glorious," he said. "You missed an excellent show."
I rolled my eyes and chuckled at his obvious glee. "What else?"
"She traded the cure for her freedom."
"That's it?" I asked incredulously.
"Why do you assume I didn't just let her go?"
"Klaus," I turned to face him while still in his arms. "Have you met you?"
"Okay fine," he said. "I took your suggestion. I made her pledge fealty to me and to always warn me if someone is plotting against me."
"That sounds more like the Klaus I know..."
"Now, I have a question for you."
"Yes?" I asked.
"You and Kitty Kat?" Aww, he was so confused.
"Well, let's just say that while I was on the run from the council I made some interesting friends."
"So Katherine and Kol, you mean." He guessed.
"Among others, yes."
"Well, love. There is certainly more to you than meets the eye," he said.
I shrugged. "During my time away from home, I learned how to fully embrace the vampire way of life without having to deal with certain people's hang ups about it. I didn't have to hide and I loved every second of it. It was a pretty freeing experience."
"You sure have a knack for forgiving people," he said. I could feel him sigh against my back. "I hope that one day you could do the same for me."
"Ya know," I said slyly. "I met your son too. He's pretty handsome."
"My son?" He asked in confusion. "Ohh, you met—
"Well if this isn't a lovely sight," a voice said interrupting him.
Our heads snapped up to see Rebekah waltzing in. I rolled my eyes again for umpteenth time this week.
"The cure," I mouthed to Klaus.
When he didn't move I punched him.
"What?" He asked.
I gave him a pointed look before he sighed and flashed out of the room. When he came back he held the little box in his hands.
"Is that what I think it is??" She asked in sheer excitement. "How the hell... Katherine must have given it to you."
"She did," he said.
"Nik, please. You know how much I want this!" She exclaimed. "What happened to letting me live and die as I want? What happened to wanting me to find happiness? Nik, please let me have it. I just want to—
"Are you quite finished?" He asked interrupting Rebekah's spiel. Woah now, we were both taken aback.
"Yes," she said.
"Here." He tossed her the cure. "Now Silas will never get what he wants and you will get all that you desire. I just hope that one day you won't hate me as much."
"Wow. Who the hell are you and what have you done with Klaus?" I asked.
She barked a small laugh which made the both of us laugh.
"Get out of here, Rebekah, before I change my mind," he said with a smile.
She nodded with tears in her eyes and left.
"I'm proud of you, Klaus. I know you like controlling things," I said. "But, that really was the best thing you could have done."
"I just figured that by giving her the cure, at least I wouldn't have to deal with the mass of enemies I have on the other side."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Deny it all you want," I said. "So, I guess this means you no longer have anything keeping you in Mystic Falls."
"I guess not," he said. "Unless you're willing to give me a chance..."
"Hmmmmm," I said. "And what will I get in return if I give you a chance?"
"You'll get the epic love you've always dreamed of. You'll get to experience everything I've been telling you about for months, the adventure of your life."
"If I give you a chance, I want something else too." I crossed my arms. "I want you to spare Tyler's life. Do that, and you can take me on that whirlwind romance you've spent months talking about."
"Again with Tyler."
"Yes," I said. "Promise me you'll think about it."
"Fine, fine." He rolled his eyes. "I will think about it."
Welp, it was better than nothing.
"You give me a call when you're ready to let Tyler live."
With that, I went home. It's been a long day and I need to sleep.
I haven't been around the gang much since the whole torture Elena to get her humanity back plan at the Salvatore house went sideways. I've been spending way more time with my mom, especially since I almost lost her to Silas.
When I got my official acceptance letter to Tulane, she was so excited for me. Hell, I was too! Just thinking about going back to New Orleans has been getting me through everything that's been going on here. College shopping was probably the best part, though. Mom kind of went overboard but it was okay. I knew she was happy that I was going to start a new chapter in my life in a place that was safer, to an extent, for supernatural creatures. It eased her worries.
A lot of the items we bought for my apartment, started coming in droves. When it was too much to store in the house, I began shipping little by little to Angelique's place. I had her permission, of course, and I'm pretty sure she had lots of help getting everything to my place.
That help was in the form of Kitty Kat. The wild duo had gotten closer in my absence and I was honestly grateful. I wasn't able to go back and forth between the Crescent City and Mystic Falls to do everything with mom like I planned. She was the sheriff and couldn't abandon her post for long periods of time, especially now. That's why we started shipping everything in the first place. Sadly she won't be accompanying me when I move back, but that's okay. When things die down, and I hope they will, she'll be able to visit.
But before I can go back, I have to graduate. That's why I'm at the grill with Elena doing graduation invitations.
In actuality, I was babysitting my friend so that she didn't go on a doppelgänger killing spree. The girl wasn't even here right now. At least, I didn't think she was.
I couldn't even focus on what I was doing because Elena was going on and on about Katherine. She even demanded to know where the girl was when I asked why she's so fixated on her. Yes, I know she's the reason Elena's brother is dead but she's never been this one-track minded before. Besides, Kitty Kat is an associate of mine now. I'm also not about to suffer the wrath of Klaus by offering up his new minion on a silver platter when I just got him to relax on the whole I must kill Tyler bit.
There was so much drama in this town, I swear. I can't wait to get out of here.
I happened to be walking into the grill when someone tapped on my shoulder. I turned around to see an old friend.
"KOL!" I exclaimed as I ran and jumped into his arms. "Oh my Gawd, how the hell are you here? Wait, did Bonnie drop the veil?"
"Not completely," he said. "But yes."
"What do you mean?"
"The veil is only down in the confines of the expression triangle," he explained.
"Ohhh."
"I've been watching over you, I see you and my brother have been making quite a bit of progress," he said.
I smacked him.
"Not so fucking loud you idiot," I said looking around. "This town has ears everywhere."
Rebekah was here talking to Matt and she didn't need to know any of this. The person I thought was Rebekah when I was with Klaus after prom was actually Silas and his mind games. No surprise there. We probably should have asked more questions but Silas was so convincing.
"Hey, I'm not judging."
"Yeah because you have no room to judge," I said with a laugh.
"Look, Care, it was great seeing you. But I've got some unfinished business to attend to."
"Do I even want to know what that is?" I asked.
"No, you most certainly do not."
With a smug smile, the original vanished. I looked back over to where Rebekah was talking to Matt and decided to do something nice.
"Rebekah?" I called from a few tables over outside of Matt's hearing range. "Can I borrow you for a second?"
"And what do you want?" She asked as she walked over, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I kind of just wanted to say sorry about the cure, I know you really wanted it."
"Oh," she said taken aback. "Thank you."
"Also, have you by chance talked to Stefan lately?"
"No, I haven't." She replied.
"You really should."
She pursed her lips before nodding.
My head snapped up toward the ceiling in abrupt surprise. The had suddenly lights just went out.
Welp, so much for hanging out at the grill without any complications.
Bonnie pulled the veil down, I got Silas'd into being a cutter, and Rebekah slapped the shit out of me. Okay okay, I was grateful she snapped me out of the Silas mind trick.
On the bright side, Elena was back to being her old self, the Salvatores were able to get her humanity back on. Jeremy and Alaric were back for a little while longer, and Bonnie stopped Silas. Grateful that everything was about to wind down, I told Stefan to meet me at the grill for a victory meal.
"Good, you're here." I brought the liquor to the table when I saw him. "We need to celebrate."
"Yeahhh, I'm not really in the mood to celebrate."
"What's wrong with you? Silas is dead, or whatever, and you're just sitting here like a bump on a log." I was confused, he should be happy, right?
"There was someone that I thought I would see today and... I didn't. That's all."
Ohhh, Lexi. Damn.
"You better mean me." Speak of the she-vampire and she shall appear.
"You've got to be kidding me." Stefan turned around and there she was. Awww he looked so content when they hugged. He really needs his bestie, I could tell everything with Elena was weighing on him.
"Thank you for keeping an eye on this one."
I just smiled as they walked away.
I really hope Stefan can get away for awhile. Maybe he'll even find love again.
Speaking of which, maybe I should call Klaus now. He left town and didn't say anything. I hope nothing is wrong.
My phone buzzed and what do ya know, Klaus is calling. I better see what he wants.
"Hello?"
"Caroline, I'm standing in one of my favorite places in the world, New Orleans. Surrounded by food, music, art, culture, and all I can think about is how much I want to show it to you. Maybe one day you'll let me."
"How about..." I trailed off. "Tomorrow night?"
"Tomorrow night? What do you mean? Does that mean you're taking me up on my offer?"
"Does that mean you'll spare Tyler's life?" I countered.
I could hear him sigh in exasperation. "Yes."
"Then yes. Niklaus Mikaelson. Starting this second, I am taking you up on your offer. Don't screw it up." I could hear him laughing on the other end. "And I better see you at my graduation."
"I got your invitation. I'll be heading back in a few hours. You never did answer my other question."
"I got into Tulane University and after graduation, tomorrow night, I will be driving back to New Orleans." I said.
"Driving back? You've already been here before? You don't want to spend the summer in Mystic Falls?"
"Oh that's riiiight, you don't know," I said with a genuine smile. "I have quite a bit to tell you."
