Somebody in the living room had turned the music on again. Nobody minded it, but nobody was really paying attention to it, either.
Everybody in the room was worried, but nobody was crying. Selma had finally calmed down. But she was now propped up against the couch, not talking to anybody or even looking at anybody.
Few people continued to talk. And nobody talked about anything non-related to what was going on. Mary and Katy kept saying how worried they were about their husbands, Kathleen was trying to calm the two of them down, and Nadia continued to rant about how she thought Carter was crazy for what he was doing.
“Couldn’t they just trace the gun back to the owner?” Nadia was saying. “It’s understandable that he cared about Freeman, but that doesn’t mean he has to go all coo-coo for Coco Puffs.”
“We get it, we get it,” Kathleen muttered to herself.
Elliott suddenly walked into the living room. Everybody was surprised. He had said that he was going to stay in his room.
“Somebody has stolen my gun,” Elliott said.
“What?” Kathleen asked.
“My pistol that I keep in my drawer,” he said. “Somebody has stolen it.”
“Was it loaded?” Katy asked.
“It always is.”
Nobody responded.
“That means that one of the six suspects stole it,” Elliott said. “And they used it to kill Freeman.”
Selma started to bawl again. She reached for the box of tissues on a lamp stand next to her.
“So they can’t use the gun to find the killer,” Kathleen said. “Nadia.”
“What about fingerprints?” Nadia angrily responded. “There has to be fingerprints on the gun, Kathleen.”
“Ladies!” Elliott said. “Relax! All I’m saying is that my gun was stolen. So now we know that my gun was the weapon used in the murder.”
“Let’s not forget something else,” Kathleen said. “Many of the guests were angry about Freeman being at the party. I’m sure that one of them, I’m not going to say any names, found your gun and saw the opportunity to kill Freeman. And they did.”
“What is your point?” Nadia asked, irritated.
“My point is,” Kathleen said, standing up and walking to Nadia. “Your husband is a murderer."595Please respect copyright.PENANAhV66fDa0rk
