"Every true gift is a sacrifice."A fir tree, once a gift to a boy from his father, becomes so much more in this original fable backstory of one of the least described props in the traditional Nativity scene.

The inspiration for this short story hit me suddenly when I saw The Christmas Tree Contest here on Penana. I started writing, and it wasn't long before I realized this was going to be a lot longer than 700 words!
