Slate prowled through the woods, just behind Alpha Raven, sniffing the air for traces of the prey they had been tracking. She finally caught a shred of scent on the breeze.
Raven. An injured bison in the next clearing. This shall be the newest Beta’s chance, she growled to her mate.
Agreed. He must prove himself. To me. To the pack, he responded. Beta Frost! He snapped. The Beta hurried forward, nose to the ground in respect. Slate crept over to Alpha Raven’s side and lay down. It was nearly spring and she was weak with hunger. Most of the pack’s prey had evaded them through the cold winter and it was imperative that they catch this injured behemoth. Raven barked orders at Frost and soon the pack was silently circling the clearing. Raven had requested that Slate lie down while the rest of the pack hunted, but Slate refused

Together, the three of them encircled the injured bison, nipping at its haunches. Slate jumped onto its back, digging her sharp fangs into its thigh. The creature bellowed in pain. The Betas and Omegas followed her lead, grabbing chunks of fur and meat in their bloodthirsty jaws. Frost plunged his canines deep into the bison’s neck, sealing its grim fate.
