I had the idea for this story many years ago, it all began with an OC I used for casual roleplaying. Then the story for this character remained kicking around in my head for many, many years and underwent a lot of changes and adjustments before reaching its current state. In the beginning I had a lot of trouble writing this story. I took a lot of inspiration from different kinds of books, but the one book that finally helped me actually get anything written was The Chronicles of Narnia.

Jean was born in the year 1700 as a member of the Great Lakes Cabol tribe. Eventually, the system was breached by Irenshoa Nation.

After defeating the Cabol, the Irenshoa turned their attention to forcibly removing European colonists from the Americas. Recognizing that Jean's intellect could be an advantage, the Irenshoa military brought her along for a later invasion of the Italian city-state of Rome. Can Jean survive in this New World Realignment, while also preventing her gift for innovation from being exploited by the corrupt leaders of the Irenshoa Nation?

Jennifer was starting at a cushy, less stressful, job. Additionally, she was going by her true name again. Well, at least God-given first name. As to her last name, not so much. She had altered her last name to "Sassy". She figured if you're assuming a new identity why not give it some zing.

Jennifer established a new identity and was in hiding because of computer hacking crimes she committed years earlier. Government agents thought they should be looking for a socially isolated individual. They didn't think to question a six-foot, seven-inch, green-skinned attorney.

Agents that might have suspected Jennifer also knew there was no reason to aggravate a person known for flare ups of anger. Indeed, everyone who had ever interacted with her even a little bit knew there were days when she had on "The Jennifer Face". It wasn't an emotionally cold 1,000-yard distant stare. Although hard to define, everyone could see "The Face," even when she wore sunglasses. At those times, no one approached her without an essential reason for doing so. They all stayed the hell out of her way.

On Jennifer's first day in her job as a law professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, she had to prepare for two classes. Intellectual Property was her morning class, and Criminal Law was her afternoon one. Jennifer was on her way to the students' Memorial Union to get a cup of their much remarked upon coffee when she received an email on her Blackberry from the school's receptionist. The email read: "Professor, a young man who gave his name as 'Quickie' is waiting here. He's like you." That "like you” part in the email message was the receptionist's nice, passive, way of saying that Quickie must have an unusual physical feature, or demonstrated a superhuman feat. This would be similar to Jennifer's amazing height and green skin, plus enhanced strength and invulnerability.

Jennifer had been exposed to radiation from one of two nuclear bombs that went off years earlier in the American Southwest. Perhaps because neutron bombs had been employed, rather than the type of atomic bombs that had been used earlier, no one died within the radius of the explosions. Indeed, some people in the blast radius had ended up gaining various superpowers. Apparently, Quickie must have been exposed to this radiation as well. Jennifer knew she had to turn around and find out what the heck this Quickie fellow wanted. She was going to have to talk to him and lose the spare time she had set aside to more fully prepare for her first class. Furthermore, she was going to have to talk to him without her morning coffee. Involuntarily, before she even laid eyes on Quickie, she was going to arrive sporting the "Jennifer Face".

Author's NotesIn 1989, a comic book series began where a green-skinned heroine "broke down the fourth wall" to address her author. A red costumed mercenary appeared for the first time in 1991.

Three years after the dissaperence of Rose's father and the loss of her voice and memories she had stapled together something resembling her old life until she was introduced to a world of actual magic existing between the cracks of her city. Forced to come to terms quickly with her new reality or risk losing the only lead she may have to find her father she joins the Devil's Advocates a team of young adults fumbling through life. All led by an ambiguous old man who goes by the moniker Joker. Follow Rose, Kairo, Lonan, Benni, Lobo, and Ermellia as they survive the twisted games the city has in store playing their roles as the Devil's Advocates.

I felt myself begin to sway the thirst grew stronger matching the intensity of the music. When I couldn't take much more a set of drums joined the symphony. I felt each bang vibrate through my skull I knew I had to drink. Greedily I tip the cup back swallowing what I thought would be warm but to my surprise, the thick liquid was chilled. I shut my eyes tight it seemed the music stopped the moment the last drop passed my lips. The thirst was gone and my head felt steady if anything I had a light buzz.

Die Twice is a short story that narrates the changes Rhea Galanis goes through in her life when she grows and makes her decisions.

Anyone immune to slight mentions of violence, rich brats, marriages, rude people, thugs who break the walls of your home, starving, only one inseparable bond, death, tons of advice, nightmares, a good king, a good heart and a happy ending can read this story.

As long as she stays worthy of love, worthy of belonging, worthy of what he gives to her.

That means she has giant, ornate palaces, crystal chandeliers, hundreds of dresses, and a bunch of food she can't actually eat but can indeed stare at (fat women aren't attractive after all).

The peasants, the people lower down on the hierarchy, don't have that. They don't have food, often, as the price of bread can soar too high for them to buy it. They don't have warmth in the winter, or medicine for when they're sick. What they do have is hard work. Hard work and calloused palms, calloused fingers, calloused feet.

And her heart reaches out to them. But what does her heart know? It's not her place to have opinions.

She has to be loyal. To her man. ... Unless... unless her loyalty truly belongs with someone else.

Maybe the thing she has to be is brave.
