"Io did you see how he used gravity Heka? Hey! Did you see it Io? I think Gravity Heka has to be the coolest Heka there is. He just increased the gravity in the arena and that stupid Nature user couldn't even grow grass." Io and her brother was walking back home after they went to a local Heka Fighting match that was a qualification match for the next World Heka championships.
Io is a shy ten year old with blond braids. She keeps on shrugging her shoulders as her four-year older brother bumps her while ranting about the match she wasn't really interested in. She would much rather be spending time with her Dad. When they finally get home to Io's relief she breaks free of her brothers ongoing bantering and makes way to the front door. She suddenly gets picked up by a man and like a dancer she gets twirled around in the night-light. Her shock is short lived as the chloroform kicks in. Io's brother still dead quite from shock gets a fist to his jaw and he passes out on the pavement.
Jack:" I hate Kids" He lifts Io over his shoulder and makes a hasty retreat to the parked car around the corner. The car hovering over the black river of tar reflecting the full moon starts to move forward as Io's brother wakes up to see it leave. Jack drives to the private military Mono rail station. He loads Io and his Bags, they don't have a lot of time the caravan if leaving soon. While Jack is busy with the bags there is a screen inside the monorail cart flickering away. It's the news station showing images of Mars's surface with huge green patches of what looks like forest. Jack too busy to notice what's on the screens closes the doors and sets the monorail cart in motion.
Jack looks over his shoulder and sees Io still passed out with the bags of supplies. They come to a quick stop and Jack starts to unpack the bags in to a trolley. There is a women dressed in dark silk robes looking at Jack nervously.
Jack:" Hi Sam. The kid's in the train. You can carry her in your arms she isn't that heavy."
Sam:" Thanks. I'll take good care of her. Did you see the news today" Sam trying to make small talk gets interrupted by a short "no". Jack starts to push the trolley onto the dirt road.
Jack:" We still need to walk two clicks. Hurry up." They are on the out skirts of the mega city so it's not a well maintained area. Heka doesn't work here so no one likes to live there. If it wasn't for the full moon they might have had difficulty getting around and seeing where to go as they sneak their way to the caravan of about two hundred and fifty people. Caravans are used to transport contraband and supplies between cities. For unexplained reasons there are people who live in small towns in remote areas in the forest and they use the security of the caravans to get back home after their visit to the City.
Io wakes up dazed just as they get to the caravan. Sam puts her down on the back of a horse cart. Jack discards the trolley and walks to the horses to see if everything is ready to go. Jack looks around to sees that Io has made a run for it. As he wants to start running after her he sees an old man in a dirty raged inverness coat stopping her. Jack:" Flux…I didn't see it was you sir. Can I take your bags?
Flux:" I don't think you can but you may try. Thank you Jack" Flux lets Io's hand go and she walks to Sam and grabs her arm. Flux slides three extra-large duffel bags of his shoulder for Jack to put on the cart. Jack tries to pick up all three bags but are unable. Embarrassed he struggles to pick up the bags one by one. Flux:" I see I'm just in time." Looking at the front of the group starting to go onto an ancient highway on ramp. Flux Walks up to Sam and introduces himself. His well-maintained clean hands and clean-shaven wrinkly face are a bit contradicting to his rags he uses as a coat. He kisses her small hand and gives her a warming smile that makes her forget that's she is in a dangerous mission for a second. As they sit on the wagon Jack and Flux are at the front steering the horses and the women are making them self-comfortable in the back.
Flux:" You can relax. Nothing will happen to you three while we are on the road. In fact it will be so dull I'll be giving you training starting tomorrow. "
Jack:" What are the plans for the girl?"
Flux: "She will be better of with the Elluminate. So when they ambush you they must take her. They will train her to her full potential before they try to control her Heka, where as the army would like to suppress it from the beginning." Winking at Jack "So don't go too far you will have another mission when she reaches her full potential."
Jack:" And Sam? What about her, she won't understand."
Flux:" I like her. She is a truly a beautiful human. I have a plan for her. She will continue with me all the way to Flora city. Where I will introduce her to Ge."
The next day after they set up camp for the night Flux takes Jack of into a ravine. Jack looks worried as the forest isn't a place to walk around in, especially at night. Since the last war abominations have run wild in the forest as the army experimented on animals to see if they can get a way to use Heka outside of the cities. In the fifteen day war a group of Dark Heka users manipulated the earth's magnetic fields and made it impossible for humans to use Heka. Some areas were unaffected by this and this is where the mega cities were built. The forest was left alone as no one wanted to live where they could not use their Heka except for the small villages.
Flux points at the duffel bags and tells Jack to pick a shield and weapon from each bag.
Jack: "Is it save to be this far from the caravan Master?"
Flux smirking:" I don't know. So you better learn fast before something jumps at you Jack." Pointing at the forest border.
"I'll be teaching you how to use fire out here in the forest and how to overcome your limits"
Jack:" But I am not a level eight heka user and I have learned how to fight using weapons in the forest."
Flux in an abnormally deep voice:" Who are you to question me?"
Jack falls to one knee:" I am sorry master. Please forgive me."
Flux:" I'm not gone teach you heka. I'll be teaching you how to use base Alchemy. This will be the last time you question me Jack. You will do as I say without hesitation. "Flux then points at the forest border again and as Jack turns around a giant ice white cave bear jumps at him. Jack gives a good fight but the bear gets hold of his arm. Jack sees that the cave bear heals where he stabbed him. The bear rips and breaks Jacks arm. The bear aims at Jacks head for a fatal bite.
Flux walking towards Jack and the bear says in a calm and normal voice:" Thanks Björn. You may leave now." The bear stops just as his teeth touches Jacks cheeks. The drool dripping in jacks face. The bear moves back and looks at Flux, gives him a nod of respect and moves back to the forest. Jack lies on the soft grass trying not to scream out in pain as his mangled left arm is bleeding out. Flux looks at Jack and hold out his left arm as to help him up. Jack looks shocked and wants to give his right arm but just knows that is not what is expected of him. He takes a deep breath and lifts his hand and grabs Flux's hand. Flux immediately jerks and pulls him up right.
Flux:" Why are you crying Jack?" Jack's eyes started to water when he lifted his arm. But before he even stood up straight his left arm was fully healed. In fact he feels great and ready for training.
Flux:" Grab your shield only and follow me." "Yes master" Jack sprint to cash up with Flux after picking up his shield.
Flux:" I'll be teaching you how to use fire as the forest respects it the most of all the elements. Everything is energy Jack" They come to a stop in the middle of the clearing in the forest. The both sit down with folded legs and the training starts"
Six weeks later.
Sam leaves the camp to see this training Jack talks about. She follows them to a river and hides behind a tree. The snow starts to softly dance down as they make their way to the river. By now Jack is able to create a flame halo around his sword and shield. Flux tells Jack to attack him. Flux has no weapons and hops on the boulders scattered in the river. Jack wants to question Flux about not having any weapons but has learnt his lesson for questioning Flux.
Jack starts to swing at Flux. Flux somehow flicks the sword away from him with only his one hand. Flux needs to use his shield every now and then to protect himself from his own sword. Flux starts to move to the edge of the river still with no injury or wet from the rushing shallow waters. Jack fell of the rocks long ago and is starting to feel the cold. Flux starts to deflect the sword in to the water as Jack doesn't give up swinging.
Flux:" Jack, what have I taught you about how the flame works and how energy flows?" Flux leaps on the shore and stops the fight. Jack stands still in the freezing water. Jack starts to shiver uncontrollably now that he is relaxed.
Flux:" There is no reason for you to be cold Jack." The flames that covered the shield and sword die out. Jack closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. He stops shaking and steam starts to rise from his naked chest. His legs start to boil the water around him. Sam creeps out from behind the tree to get a closer look. She has never seen someone use heka in the forest before.
Flux: "Good. Jack you know you failed me when you didn't lose the arena fight." Jack opens his eyes in a scared shocked jerk. "It's ok Jack, I won't punish you for it. You have made up for it in the short time you mastered the techniques I have shown you. Your training is finished for now." The same ice white cave bear that mutilated jacks arm is emerging from the forest where Sam is hiding. This time not alone, the bears force Sam out of her hiding spot. Sam gives a scream and the other bear slaps her out of the way into the open near the river edge.
Flux looks at Jack:" You shouldn't just worry about the bears" Flux hints with his eyes at the huge wave of ice water that's almost on top of him. The wave rushes over him and starts to take him down river towards Sam and the bears. As the bears are about to attack Sam, Jack leaps out of the mouth of the rushing water and cuts the new bears paw off. The paw regenerates and Jack realizes that now there are two bears that can heal themselves at an alarming rate.
Both bears now have a new target and they go for Jack. Jack leads them away from Sam. He runs as he calculates a strategy to kill the two huge bears. He realizes that this is all Flux's doing and that this is to test him and what he has learned. He turns around and faces the two bears heading towards him like unstoppable locomotives. He flames up his weapons and does a forward somersault towards the center of the two bears.
