Aiden cracked open her eyes as she came down from her blood high. The small apartment’s walls were painted red. Each of the bodies lying on the ground was accompanied by a splatter on the walls, and a pool of red surrounded each one of them. She shakily raised to her feet and used the walls as supports as she made her way down a hall. She grabbed a few of her cleaning supplies. She came back to her living room and dropped down to the ground to start her scrubbing.
Why shouldn’t I help myself, after the way I’ve been treated? I’ve been shunned from my family of the last few centuries! Aiden shook her head. I’m still hung up on them dropping me, but I should’ve seen that one coming. I was with them for over a thousand years, of course, I’m not going to get over them in a short little decade. I was stupid, just like I am now. I have to be more fucking careful and not just go out willy-nilly and kill… Aiden counted the bodies in her head. One … two … three … four-five! Five people, at least! How did I even convince so many to come home with me?
Aiden paused and glanced around again, double checking to make sure she didn’t try to turn one of them. Some of her red hair dropped in front of her face. Blowing it back only made it go away for a few seconds before it flopped back down. Aggravated, Aiden threw down her scrubbing supplies and sighed. She leaned back and sat in a kneeling position. Squeezing her eyes shut, Aiden was allowed to think; though she knew that’s not the best thing for her - never has been, never will be.
What’s happened to me? I used to try my best to be good - to be what my sister saw me as - and now I’ve just…
In her pocket, her phone buzzed loudly, snapping Aiden out of her thoughts. Aiden ripped it out of her pocket, squinting her eyes at the screen. Displayed on it was a picture of a blonde woman sticking her tongue out at the camera with her arms wrapped around Aiden in a side-hug. Aiden had a lazy smile crawling onto her face and blue eyes shining with happiness. Under the picture was the woman’s name, Caitlin, written in looping letters. Aiden drew her finger across the screen to answer and put the phone to her ear.
“Hello, Aiden?” Caitlin’s uncertain voice drifted through the phone.
“What do you want, Caitlin?” Aiden snapped, getting straight to the point.
“I-I’m sorry Aiden. We need you to come back. Someone’s coming after Keira. Help us please.” Caitlin begged. Aiden could almost see the desperation filling her sister’s eyes from the begging.
Aiden sighed. Both of her options were bad; go home to her sister or stay here on her binge. She looked up at the roof of the little apartment. Sister or damnation.
“Who’s coming after Keira, exactly?” Aiden asked, closing her eyes. Go big or go home, Caitlin. You need a really big bad to get me to come home.
“I-” Caitlin started before she took a shaky breath. “I have no idea, but whoever it is, they seem to know us.”
“As in?” Aiden asked.
“As in personally, like not stuff from the rumors always going around about our family.” At this, Aiden’s eyebrows shot up. Well, guess who’s coming home, sister.
“Clean up, big sister’s coming home,” Aiden said
