The perfect city, the perfect community, you don’t think those would ever exist, right? Well, you're not fully wrong.
Centuries ago, the world was plagued with wars, illnesses, and hate. We practically killed each other, there were only a few left after. Now? We live in the only city left.
Eden
It’s old, I’ll admit, but it seems to work well. Four factions, four sections of the city. The factions are for the types of jobs and such that you want, and for future partners.
Let me explain The System
The System was created when the city was built so that we would have a purpose and stay with it, with no wishy-washy stuff.
You become an adult citizen at 18, like most do in most places (I would hope), and The System takes you through your inauguration day.
Inauguration day is when you are given a spouse, and from there, you and your said spouse must stay together for the rest of the day, deciding which faction to join. The System knows your interests and such from multiple things, from your personality, mannerisms, down to what you eat for lunch. Most people are very lucky because of this; the system sets you up with someone like you, and most get done with choosing a faction early. Some, on the other hand, don’t match well, and they either just pick something randomly, give into the other’s demand, or go over time… most don’t know what happens when you go over time, you just know those people don’t show up at the end of the day.
The day ends with you and your spouse choosing your faction together in front of everyone, and being given a starter home as you need time to start jobs.
You can have any job, as long as it’s in your faction’s wheelhouse, which now would be a good time to explain said factions.
Azim is our strong. Our labor workforce. They do all the hard labor. Construction, Warehouse, Factory, and even farmers. Anything that requires lots of physical work, Azim is your faction to go to. The faction members are hardworking, yet a little rowdy.
Verdad is all about truth and finding truth. Not only is it where lawyers and courtroom jobs are, but it’s also where the police force and private investigators are. You want the truth? You’ll find it there. The faction members are always blunt and speak what they think, which can be somewhat troublesome at times.
Karunar is all about compassion. They strive to make others feel better. Doctors, Therapists, Anybody or anything that can give a person serotonin. This is also where all our entertainment comes from. Movie stars, influencers, anything or anybody fun? There it is. Restaurants are also in this faction! The faction members do tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves.
And lastly, Urafiki. The loyal and the wise. They are the ones who run educational programs and keep the city in order. Urfiki is full of natural leaders. The city’s leaders are all in Urafiki. It’s where I’m from, it’s colder, brighter, and-
“FABEL GROVES!! GET UP! IT’S INAUGURATION DAY!!” My mother screamed at me, as I fell out of my bed.
Yep, that’s me, Fabel Groves, and I was about to deal with my inauguration day. Inauguration day has always been a big deal every year, everyone comes the the center of the city to watch the new citizens promise to do their job and join a faction. Most just join a family faction, get married, and have kids. That’s what my older brother did two years ago. Broke my parents' hearts when he joined Verdad. He does visit sometimes, though. I, on the other hand, don’t wish to marry someone I barely know, so I am not enjoying this much.
This. is. Going. To. be. Torture.
I get up and blow a strand of my silver hair out of my face, and get up. I look at my clock. I HAVE ONLY AN HOUR TO GET READY?! I leap up and promptly stumble back down from moving to fast and the mess of blankets around me.
“FABEL! I WON’T TELL YOU AGAIN-”
“I’M UP MAMA! SHUSH!” I yell back and finally get up.
Today is going to be a long as hell day.
