The chill in the air made Ana’s breath visible as she stepped cautiously through the dark alley. The streets were empty now, the usual hum of the city replaced by eerie silence. Every step felt heavier as she made her way to the abandoned warehouse where Lily had told her to meet.
Her phone buzzed. It was a message from Sophie.
Sophie: “Ana, stay away from the warehouse. Trust me, something’s wrong. I don’t think Lily’s telling you everything. Be careful.”
But Ana couldn’t stop now. Not after everything she’d heard from Lily. The lies, the manipulation, the dark truth that had been hidden for so long. There was someone in their group who needed to pay for what happened to Ella—and that person was not Lily. The more Ana thought about it, the more she realized the puzzle was far from complete. There was one more key player. One more shadow in the dark.
Ana reached the entrance of the warehouse and hesitated. The large metal doors creaked as she pushed them open. Inside, it was dark and musty, the faint sound of dripping water echoing through the large space. She pulled out a flashlight, the beam cutting through the darkness.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps broke the silence. Ana whipped around, the beam of the flashlight catching a figure stepping out from the shadows.
Tyler.
Ana’s heart skipped a beat. Why was he here?
“Tyler?” she called out, her voice trembling with suspicion. “What are you doing here?”
Tyler’s usual cocky demeanor was gone. His eyes were wide, his lips trembling. For the first time, he looked genuinely afraid.
“I was just coming to find you,” he said, his voice shaking. “I need to talk to you. About everything. About Ella, about my family. About… all of it.”
Ana narrowed her eyes. This wasn’t the Tyler she knew. He was acting desperate, like he had something to lose.
“Start talking, Tyler. What’s going on? Who killed Ella? ” Ana demanded.
Tyler took a deep breath, his shoulders sagging. “You don’t understand. You think I’m guilty, don’t you? You think I had something to do with her death.”
“I don’t know what to think anymore,” Ana snapped. “But I do know that someone in our group is hiding something. And I need the truth.”
Tyler’s hands shook as he ran them through his hair. “I didn’t kill Ella,” he said quickly, his voice almost pleading. “But my family did. My father—he’s been involved in things. Big things. Things that we should never have gotten into. Ella started asking questions… and it was only a matter of time before they decided she had to go.”
Ana’s heart raced as Tyler’s words sank in. Tyler’s father? She had always known there was something off about his family, but this? This was beyond anything she could have imagined.
“Your father?” Ana repeated, trying to process the information. “What kind of things are you talking about?”
Tyler shook his head, his face pale. “My father runs a lot of businesses that aren’t exactly… legal. And Ella, she found out. She knew too much. She was going to expose us. And then, she started getting close to the truth. That’s when I… I had to help. I had to cover for them.”
“You helped them?” Ana’s voice was rising now, a mixture of anger and disbelief. “You helped kill her?”
“I didn’t want to!” Tyler cried. “I was just a pawn in all of this. My family threatened to hurt me, hurt you, hurt everyone if I didn’t cooperate.” His voice cracked. “Ella was the first target, but they weren’t going to stop there. They knew she had all the pieces. And I couldn’t do anything to stop it.”
Ana took a step back, the weight of Tyler’s confession sinking in. All this time, she had thought Tyler was just a victim, caught up in something beyond his control. But now, she wasn’t so sure.
“Who else is involved, Tyler?” Ana demanded. “Who else helped cover this up?”
Tyler looked down, his face pale and sweating. “Lily,” he whispered. “She was the one who kept everything quiet. She’s been working with my family for months. She’s the one who helped make sure Ella didn’t talk to anyone else. She helped me cover up the evidence. She knew the truth, but she was too scared to speak up.”Tyler glanced at the door, then back at Ana. “I wasn’t even supposed to be here. I had to sneak out—I know Lily was supposed to meet you here, but she never showed, did she?”
Ana’s blood ran cold. “Why?”
Tyler exhaled sharply. “Because she knew this was a setup.”
Ana’s mind was spinning. Lily. Again. This was all starting to feel like a trap. But there was no turning back now. She had to confront Lily.
“Where is she now, Tyler?” Ana asked, her voice hard.
“I don’t know. But if she’s smart, she’s already gone into hiding,” he said, his voice cracking.
Ana’s mind was reeling as she turned on her heel and ran from the warehouse. She couldn’t let this end like this. The truth was within her grasp—she could feel it. But everything felt like it was slipping away.
Lily had been hiding more than just secrets. She had been hiding the truth about who was pulling the strings all along.
As Ana raced through the streets, one thought pounded in her mind: If she didn’t stop this now, more people would die. The final piece of the puzzle was just out of reach. But who would be the next victim?
