I wake up to the light from the hallway streaming into my bedroom. I rub my eyes groggily and sit up in bed.

"Morning Sleeping Beauty." Jessica says, walking further into the room. 

Turning on the light, she shuts the door behind her. "Sophie wants us to go to school today. Apparently we have to check it out, make sure no demons are lurking the halls."

Getting up, I get dressed in a black tank top and matching black leggings. 

"This has got to be fun!" I fake smile. "Like I want to spend my day with Mundanes who can't even see me!"

Jessica laughs at this.

Slipping on my leather boots I tie them securely before grabbing my sheath from my closet. On our way out of my room I grab my black leather jacket and tie my hair into a messy bun. 

Inside the weapons room is Andrew skimming through the choices along the walls. I grab a Seraph blade and stick it in my sheath. When everyone is ready, we make our way outside of the Institute.

We walk down the halls of a nearby Mundane school. We decide to split up, I slip into a classroom and stand at the back. Nobody sees me. A boy around my age turns around in his seat, probably to pop his back.

"What are you doing. Take your seat." He whispers looking me in the eyes.

"You can see me?!" I ask shocked.

"Of course I can see you." He yells.

"Elijah, who are you talking to?" The teacher bellows at the front of the class.

"I-I was just. Nobody." He replies with his head down. I slip out of the classroom, suddenly a bell rings and the students come rushing out of the classroom.

The Mundane boy walks slowly out. When he sees me his eyes grow wide. I grab his wrist and drag him outside.

"What! Where are you taking me?" He asks.

Jessica and Andrew are standing outside.

"What are you doing with that Mundane Mikayla?" Andrew says.

"He can see us Andrew." I answer.

"What are you guys talking about? What's a Mundane?" The boy, Elijah, asks.

"It's what you are." Jessica replies, annoyed.

"What are you, how am I the only one that can see you?" He asks, struggling to get out of my grasp.

"He has the Sight." Andrew says in a whisper.

"No Mundane has had the Sight in years Andrew!" I yell, ignoring Elijah.

"What are you talking about? Will you please stop it! I need some answers." Elijah yells over us.

I let go of Elijah and look him in the eyes. "We are Shadowhunters, half Angel half human. We protect you-Mundanes-from demons." I add. "We kill them." 

"You kill demons." Elijah says, his eyes growing wide again.

"Yes." I pause to turn to Jessica and Andrew. "We need to take him back to the institute." 

"Why! He's worthless." Jessica says and Elijah yells back a 'hey'.

"We need to figure out why he's the only Mundane left to have the Sight." I reply.

Only you want him to come to the institute because you like him. I hear an unexpected thought come to my mind.

"Fine, he can come with us." Andrew says, rolling his eyes. I smile as we make our way to the institute. Elijah walking slowly behind us.
