"Te ves como una princesa de la vida real." Ana whispered into my ear before kissing my cheek.
Both Katherine and Ana fixed my hair and veil, making sure nothing was out of place. "Do you want one more sip before heading out?" Katherine asked picking up the champagne bottle but frowned when she realized that it was empty. She dropped it into the trash can and shook her head.
"I can't believe your the first one of us to take the plunge." Ana snickered softly wiping away her tears as a knock came to the door. I adjust the diamond bracelet my mom gave when I was little for this day. The open there was my dad standing there in his black suit, rose boutonniere, and shiny black shoes. He was smiling ear to ear and that made me smile and we were both just standing there smiling like idiots.
"You look absolutely stunning baby girl." He complimented. "Are your ready?" He asks as Ana and Katherine walk ahead of me. The two met up with my brothers, Archie and Kel, to escort them down the aisle. And just before they turned the corner Archie gave me the thumbs up for good luck.
"Is it weird to be this nervous?" I asked feeling my heart pump viciously in my chest as we exited the dressing room arm and arm. I was scared. Not bad just... this is fucking forever and I cant wait but like...forever?
"No." He answered shaking his head. "On our wedding day, I was doing jumping Jack's in the dressing room. True story ask Uncle Richie."
"Okay, daddy." I shook my head in disbelief my dad is a suit nut and would never fuck up a good suit especially his wedding suit.
"Everything will be just fine. Just breathe and say your Vows and love each other forever. That's it." He said to reassure me.
But that all came to a halt when my brother comes rushing back in through the french glass doors. He was mumbling something and saying Marcus something something Marcus...
"He um, he uh. Marcus he..."
But then I got my answer when I saw the love of my life speed walking down the aisle bumping Ana out of the way. He looked up for two second before leaving for good.
And just like Marcus Messner was gone and I was left at alter for reasons that are only kept with Marcus....
One Year Later
I have never truly been a party person, but with my career partying is all about networking. Why would a chef need to network? Because I work for a magazine and my department gets the least amount of money to work with.
So I'm forced to go to these things. The only thing that make it bearable are the open bars and Katherine and Ana.
There were cameras all around and few A list celebrities that were standing around mingling with writers and directors.
Now even though I was supposed to be networking this was an important night for Heist Magazine. It was there fiftieth anniversary, and editor in chief is giving her speech tonight.
Dev Macklin was someone you mesmerised and wanted to please. She's been our boss for about five years, she is the nicest person you could ever meet but also takes no bullshit.
But she was taking forever to leave her office which left all of us just bustling around bored.
"What the fuck is taking her so long?" Katherine asked as she drank her spiked punch. She can take as long as she needs either way I'm going home at 10, I have an early start tomorrow.
My mind is like mush. One minute I'm dancing with my friends to 90s jams and next I'm crying over the fact this would have been my one year wedding anniversary. But you know what shit happens.
Where's Marcus who the fuck knows but him. I tried calling and he changed his number and he left his job. Fucking dumbass.
"Truth or Dare?" Ana asked Katherine, she shook her head and rolled her eyes. Just as she opened her mouth to say something my co worker, Jay stumbled over and hugged me.
"Hey, what's up." He asked me. "You dont have to answer I'm out of my mind bored and I can't listen to Mary-Kate and Ashley complaining any longer."
Jay was our camera operator and unofficial food taster. We all work closely together for Heist Magazine. Jay and I work together the most. I cook and he films me and he continues to eat the food I make. He tells great jokes and rides around on a skateboard through the office.
I have a small thing from him. But I'm not sure if its genuine or if it's he's the first guy I find some what interesting since Marcus. Or he knows nothing about Marcus and I like that he never brings him up.
I'm not that person who is goin to have love because I got left at the alter. Do I have trust issues now, oh yeah big time. But...yeah I don't know what else to follow with that.
"Can I get you a drink?" He asked looking over at the bar, and looked back at me with his bottom lip in his mouth. Fuck me, cause all I did was nod to avoid saying something stupid. "Okay." He nodded and walked away.
"You are about as subtle as a ticking time bomb." Katherine scoffed in laughter. "If you want him just fuck him already, it's been a year your fine."
"Yeah, look baby the only way to get over one guy is to get under another one." Ana smirked looking back at Jay who was at the bar. He waved back at us and I was the only one to wave back and smiled. "Or on top of him it's the 21st century."
I haven't gotten any since Marcus and I'm not a prude or anything. I am very sex positive, I just can't do it yet. I'm not going to embarrass myself in front of him.
"I triple dog dare you to go on a date and fuck AV kid." Ana shouted with and excited tone. Ana's eyes got wide and she shook head rapidly. "You like him and it's pretty clear he likes you, so why not?"
"Because we work together and it's a big rule not to." I said to them. "And what if it sucks and I have to see him every day when we shoot a video."
"And taking home unused mixers is a big no no but you still do it." She barked back. "Take the dare or you have to pay me back for that thing that happened in college."
"What happened in-"
"Nothing Katherine." I said shaking my head. I got up from my seat and flipped Ana off before walking through the crowd of people to the bar. Jay stood there on his phone and the bartender came with our drinks and sat them in front of him. He put his phone eyes away and tried grab all four drinks at once, I quickly came over and grabbed two to make it easier.
"Hey, I would've brought them over myself." He told me.
"Don't worry about it." I told him and we made our way back over to the table but Ana and Katherine were gone. I looked around and saw them helping Dev up the stage in her large dress.
"More for us I guess." He shrugged as I drank from my glass, not waiting for them.
"Good Afternoon everyone." Dev spoke making everyone turn in her direction. She had her daughter holding her hand while she held the microphone in the other hand. "Thank you so much for coming out to night it means so much for our Magazine...
"You look beautiful tonight." Jay whispered to me and I felt my chest tighten a little and stomach do a little bit of a flip. "I know green isnt your favorite color but it looks good on you."
"Um thank you Jay." I smiled looking anywhere but him. "You don't look so bad yourself."
Ask, ask now.
"Would you want to go out to dinner sometime?" I asked him and his eyes got wide. Big big mistake fuck there's no going back. "Like um with me in a romantic type way or not we can shoot darts if that's your thing."
"Um, Billie." He began as he fixed his. I fucked up to the extreme didnt I? Yup. "I'm truly flattered, I'd love too."
And I'm embarrassed. I took a chance and it back fired. I need an excuse to get out of here and find a way to get out filming tomorrow. I can fly back home, nope I'm an adult cant run home.
"I'm sorry Wil-" He said grabbing my hand.
"Wait you said, yes?" I asked hoping I wasnt imagining it. And he nodded. and to hide my overly geeking smile I drank my champagne.
