As always my fear of jinxing our good luck was accurate. After a very long day working at a bike shop owned by one of the rudest people in town, I come home to be greeted by Kyler and Myka sitting on the curb outside the house, looking obviously upset.
“What are you guys doing?”
Myka, on the verge of crying, gets up and takes off down the street without saying a word. Even more confused I sit alongside Kyler on the curb.
“What happened Ky?” I ask calling her by her nickname to try and ease the tension. After a second of silence, she finally answers.
“Your dad came home and he-”
Before she could finish her sentence I was busting through the front door, knocking down anything in my way. I walk in the house to find him asleep on the couch covered in vomit and a ripped open bag of chips with a bottle of scotch beside him. Completely furious I flip the couch over with him on it.
“Get up and get the fuck out Chris!” I yelled as I watched him wake up from his drunken body hitting the floor.
Slurring his words and barely standing he manages to say “What’s your problem boy? Your little bitch comes crying to you again like the homeless no good she is and now you’re ready for a fight?”
Those were the perfect words to make me go bizarre. With rage, I haven’t felt in a long time I charge to my father, slamming him into the wall causing all the photos to fall and break. Delirious, he tries to fight me back. Empty beer bottles are flying, punches are being thrown, holes are being put into walls and Kyler is crying in the kitchen yelling for us to stop. All of this because he came home, I’ve had enough. After one final hit knocking my father to his knees, I grabbed him by the hood of his disgusting, stain filled jacket and tossed him out the house and watched him tumble down our porch steps.
After an irritable ten minutes of him banging on the door shouting foul slurs from outside he finally takes off walking down the street, barefoot in gym shorts and a zip-up jacket with his bottle of scotch. With our nerves completely shot Kyler and I decided to hop on my bike and go for a ride around town to clear our minds. The town is nice when it’s flying by in an instant, it makes you feel a different type of relief. Kyler and I frequently find ourselves going far too fast on a very long and narrow dirt road right off the side of a street called Kings Lane. Kyler once described the ride as “a moment a soul can be free”, and I could never agree more. The trees flying by in a green blur like the speed of light, gliding in the wind like you have no care in the world, feeling lifted and untouchable, and nothing but the empty road in front of you full of possibilities with no end. It’s something... Indescribable. After about a five to ten minute drive down the old dirt road we take a right turn onto Railroad Blvd, usually we take a left to circle back but we decided to take the scenic route. When we turned there were three cones in the road, but no construction site anywhere to be seen. Not thinking Kyler and I went through the cones and took off down the street, but everything was different. As soon as I realized we weren't in Dunsville anymore I stopped. It was as if once we went through the cones we were in a whole different world. It was dark and gloomy like it had been storming just before we entered, the trees were tall with dark long leaves similar to a rainforest, and there weren't any houses in sight, just one single trail leading to who knows where.
“I don't know what the hell this place is, but we are leaving… NOW!” she said with an obviously non negotiable tone.
“Awh are you scared?” I said just to get a reaction out of her, I was a bit spooked myself but I didn’t need her knowing that.
“Yes I'm scared, we don’t even know what this place is let alone what kind of things this trail leads to!" She said basically shouting now. 37Please respect copyright.PENANAc0uFOZVQOK

“What the hell was that!?” Kyler shouts clinging on to me like a kid to its parent
“I'm sure it was nothing but since your being a baby lets go” I said trying to play off the fact that i was just as scared by the noise as she was.
(inner thought: know pot alters the mind but goodness I can't be this high! .......Right!? )
Anyways kyler and I find our way back to the bike and agreed we won't go back to whatever the hell we just saw. Once we made it back to the bike we rode down a few more blocks and headed home to start settling down for the day. Walking through the door we find Myka cooking meatloaf with mashed potatoes.
"Sorry I walked off how I did guys... I just couldn't deal with Chris' shit today... Thank you Har, for getting rid of him." Myka says coming over to hug me with an apologetic look on her face.
"It's all good My, I'd do it any day if it meant keeping our sanity. The days of him ruining our lives are over." I said hugging her and giving her a kiss on the top of the head.
After a day like today I think we all deserve some relief. While I started rolling some post meal joints, Kyler scavages through the house to find any booze Chris may have left behind. Lucky for us she found a untouched bottle of whiskey. I guess he hadn't gotten to it yet. What's that saying? Team work makes the dream work? We're about to have some fun.
With a few shots and a couple of joints Kyler , Myka, and I had one of the best family nights any of us had ever had. It really showed us what it meant to be surounded by people that will do anything for you and who will love you unconditionally. I couldn't ask for a better girlfriend and an even better sister. After a few more shots kyler and I decide to head to bed before we get to the ugly "head in the toilet" stage of drunk that nobody wants to really deal with, leaving Myka to do what she will with the rest of the booze.
