“Loyal Knight - Rogue Archer - Mysterious Mage. My King are you sure?”
A servant asks the king of Balwynward.
“I’m positive, we are low in units, we lost too many after the war with the Cista Empire,”
The King explains to the servant. The servant looks at the list one more time -- hesitant about it.
“We need to rebuild and become stronger for the next war -- if there is a next war…”
“We will become stronger my King! Don’t lose hope!”
The King had taken a quick glance at the young servant, so much hope in the boys’ eyes. The war with the Cista Empire has taken and a toll on everyone, however, the King believes the young servant was hit the hardest.
“I’m staying strong, I can promise you that,”
The King said with a warming smile, a smile anyone would trust.
He looks at the boy one more time, he promised his parents that he would keep him safe, bring him as one of his own once they departed from this world.
“Young Michael, I want you to go down to the training quarters, find the next loyal knight and go with him to find a mage and an archer,”
The King said giving Michael an envelope with a letter in it explaining the whole situation. The young boy takes the letter with a bright smile on his face and a huge sense of adventure, sparkling in his eyes.
“My King! Do you really mean it?”
The young boys ask the king nods.
“I mean it. At your age, I used to go on adventures myself. Mother and father didn’t like it but I loved it. I want you to have the same joy of life I had”
The boy looks at him with a bigger smile than before.
“Thank You, my king! I will make sure to make you proud!”
“You! Go get a quill, ink and an empty book”
The King points to other servant, the servant scurries out of the room.
“Michael, I want you to write down everything. I want to read what you and whoever you come back with have done,”
The King tells him with a smile. The servant scurries back in and gives the three items to the young boy, along with the objects the King requested.
“I will my king! Thank you so much, my king!”
The boy thanks him, soon he is given a satchel to put everything in.
The boy says his goodbyes as he starts his walk down to the castle training quarters. The young boy knows his way around the castle grounds extremely well. He knows the place better than servants who have worked there longer.
After a small walk past many rooms, a kitchen and a court yard the young is standing at the front door of the training quarters. He knocks on the wooden door three times, hearing a male answer from inside.
“You may enter!”
Michael looks at the door, because he is still so young, he struggles to open it. So, with his whole body he tries to push it, but it doesn’t move. He knocks three more times, a male comes over, opens it and looks out side quite mad. The young boy sees it’s the senior knight, who trains the rookies, Nathan Washington, his skin tone is much darker than everyone else.
When he looks down and see’s who it is, he smiles.
“Young Michael, what brings you here?”
Sir Nathan asks the boy bring him inside, shutting the door behind him. The boy gives Sir Nathan the envelope.
“The King handed me this, he said I have to pick a knight to come with me on an adventure,”
Michael explained as Sir Nathan reads the letter. He looks up at all the rookies after finishing the letter. Some are drunk on beer or mead, some filling their faces with mutton, while a large group of them passed out on tables or the floor. Only one rookie is awake, standing and sober.
“Dylan! Can you come here please?”
Sir Nathan calls over a tall male, he looks around he is aged between 20-22.
“Sir! What shall I do this fine evening?”
The one known as Dylan asks his senior.
“I want you to go on an adventure with this young boy, he has been given a quest by the King,”
He explains giving the envelope to the rookie knight. He reads it over a couple of times.
“Hmm, I see. We have to find an archer and a mage.”
He says not taking his eyes off the paper. After a while he looks up at his senior.
“I believe we can do it; I will keep the Boy safe and bring him back alive,”
He says looking his senior in the eyes, sir Nathan looks at Dylan in the eyes. Nathan trusts Dylan to keep the boy safe, to bring him back alive. He is just worried how he will go.
