Suggestions for good WWI or WWII movies that can be found on Netflix or youtube can go here... for those slow Saturday nights... or writing inspiration.

Just a few of my personal favorites:

- HBO Band of Brothers
- HBO The Pacific
- Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter (or "Generation War")
- Enemy at the Gates
- Beneath Hill 60
- Suite Française (also one of my favorite books)
- Snow Falling on Cedars (not purely a WWII movie but it deals a lot with the experience of Japanese Americans in interment camps on the west coast.)
- Flame & Citron
- The Red Baron
- The English Patient

Some suggestions:

*All Quiet On the Western Front (the 1933 adaptation)
*Saving Private Ryan
*Waterloo Bridge (both the 1931 and 1940 versions are good, although I personally prefer the 1940 one since it stars Clark Gable)
*Warhorse (if you're up for a touchy-feely film about a soldier and his beloved horse)

'War Horse' broke my soul. For real. And I'm not even a horse person.

@Frances, Same! It's an adaption of a fiction novel with the same title and the novel broke my heart too

@Nicole Armas, I really need to read it because it was a beautiful movie. When Tom Hiddleston died... I was a blubbering mess.

@Frances, I know right?! When Captain Nichols (Hiddleston's character) died in the book, I actually had to reread the entire page because I couldn't believe what happened

I've often heard of the 1916 silent film The Battle of the Somme and I'm glad to say that it's available on YouTube! I finally got around to watching it. It's an hour and a half long film that documents the first day of the battle. It was produced specifically for civilians back in Great Britian and was quite shocking when it premiered. It was later pulled from theatres since it was deemed counterproductive to civilian morale.
It's an interesting historical document that I think it worth checking out.

Here's a link to it: youtube.com/watch?v=xQ_OZfaiUlc&t=2091s
