The thunder roared overhead as I ran through the murky, humid street. Rain drenched my gray jacket, my mind was reeling. I didn't know what was even happening anymore. I wasn't even sure if what I saw was human. I thought that perhaps the medication the hospital gave me was making me hallucinate but, that wouldn't be the case. It was to real, and detailed to be a halitionation. Lightning flashed above giving me enough light to make out an empty alley way just up ahead of me. I turned and hid in the alley. What I saw was real. That thing had wings and it was for sure as hell not human. I was shaking and not just from being soaked in rain. I dug through my pants pocket and pulled out my phone the battery was on 5% ‘Dammit’ I thought to myself, ‘I knew I should have charged it before I left the hospital’. I opened up the dialpad, my hands wouldn't stop shaking. I clicked on the numbers 9-1-1. The phone rang and then, “911 what’s your emergency?” I opened my mouth and tried the speak but nothing would come out. “H-help…” my voice trailed off into a whisper. ‘What the fuck am I doing?’ I thought to myself. ‘If I tell them that I'm being chased by a person with wings they'll just figure I'm nuts’
“ Hello? Hello!” The operator's voice echoed softly through the phone “Are you there? Please give me your location. Ma'am? I need you to answer me, we are working to trac—”
The rain started to come down even harder, drowning out the operator's voice.Through the rage of the storm I could hear the faint sound of footsteps pounding against to wet ground gradually growing louder. What ever was after me obviously found me. My hearing became muffled and distant, as my breathing quickened and my mind that was once screaming with dread seemed to be going blank. My knees buckled underneath me, I felt by calves become entirely drenched through the jeans I was wearing as they hit the cold wet pavement, my entire body was shaking violently. The dying phone clattered to the ground from my hand, as the cellphone carriers logo flashed across the screen as it turned off. I may have dodged death before but now it had me for sure. I was going to die. The muffled sound of footsteps grew even louder and through the pounding rain I could hear a faint noise as well, coming from the same direction as the footsteps. It was a voice, a familiar one, calling out something. My ears popped, and suddenly my senses came rushing back. 438Please respect copyright.PENANAq03SjY1C3P
“Amber, Amber!” The voice tried to yell over the sound of the angry rain. It was Chris. “AMBER!”
I tried to yell back but I was still in shock and shaking, then I tried to get up again only to collapse.438Please respect copyright.PENANAZOYrqRASRq
“C-chris…” I whispered to myself in realization of who it was, “C-CHRIS,” I screeched. “HELP!” A strange mixture of relief and bits of dread came over me like rain droplets. I looked up from the ground to see his silhouette in the darkness approaching fast. Another rapid flash of lightning lit up the sky assuring me that it was in fact him. In the brief moment of light I could see him in full color. He wore a black shirt, some sort of brown cape and jeans that were also absolutely soaked and if that wasn't enough his wet matted hair made it clear that he'd been out for more than a midnight stroll. 438Please respect copyright.PENANA9SU7iTplu6
“Thank God I found you!” His voice full of worry. “We have to get out of here now!” He said as he moved towards me and helped me off the ground. I wrapped my arms around him in an embrace, burying my face in his shoulder, and began to cry. My entire body was shivering with fear.438Please respect copyright.PENANArovvSG94Bb
“C-Christian, Something's coming.” I managed to utter through my sobs.438Please respect copyright.PENANAwVIJfjHoIn
“I know, we have to go now!” He said.438Please respect copyright.PENANAy07M738U9R
He stumbled out of the alley and I followed right behind him. Another flash of lightning sparked above us. The cape on his back seemed to glisten and for a brief second it seemed to be alive. That's when I realized it wasn't a cape, but a pair of wings.438Please respect copyright.PENANAfjgG2nlUVK
“We have to get to the Cafe!” He yelled. “I'll explain more there but we are not safe here.”438Please respect copyright.PENANA1dA11KT1Jd
I struggled to keep up with him as the streets were beginning to flood with water “I don't think a fucking Cafe will keep us safe from whatever's after us!” 438Please respect copyright.PENANAW8qEMD4S3N
“You'd be surprised!” He yelled back, “Now we have to hurry before—”438Please respect copyright.PENANAQXo2BD1KrW
He looked over his shoulder and stopped dead in his tracks. I caught up with him and stopped. I turned around in the direction he was looking and saw nothing but a pitch black street. 438Please respect copyright.PENANAvMhK1F937I
“What is it?” I asked. He didn't respond. I stared down the dark street. A strike of lightning uncovered the most disturbing thing I'd ever seen. About ten feet away from us was a woman that looked to be in her late twenties. She had long perfectly curled black hair draped over her shoulder despite being in the storm of the century, a black necklace that had dozens of crystals dangling from it and she was wearing a pure black dress that looked like it belonged in the eighteen hundreds. Her eyes seemed to act as if they were miniature black holes by absorbing the lightenings light, but the main thing that captured my eyes was when she opened her black leather wings as if she was a wolf baring her teeth and her black metal claw that she wore on her right hand, its fingertips were sharpened to a wicked point. I almost screamed. I felt Chris grab my arm and pull me away from the vicious sight.438Please respect copyright.PENANASoEJecjKzZ
“Run!” He yelled at the top of his lungs as he grabbed me. We bolted towards the Cafe. The rain was at its worst. The Cafe was now only a block away but it felt like miles. I felt a cold metal hand wrap itself around my free arm and pulled me out of Chris's grasp. I immediately began kicking and screaming try to fight off the godforsaken creature but with no prevail. She lifted me off the ground with brute strength and telling from her delicate looking arms she shouldn't have been able to. I could make out the sound of her screaming. No, she was laughing.438Please respect copyright.PENANAX1IEgVlEeI
“My,my!” she spoke, in a perfect British accent “I haven't had myself a Half-angel in centuries! I guess I've earned myself a little tre—” Her sentence was cut off by something. She only loosened her grasp a little but it was enough for me to break loose of her grip. I fell back into the flooded street.438Please respect copyright.PENANAk88koaf6oo
“You Son of a BITCH!” She yelled in agony. Another flash of lightning showed a shining silver bladed sword lodged through her chest. I felt a cold hand grab my arm and pull me off the ground.438Please respect copyright.PENANAcyriOvc1Yf
“What are you doing wandering the streets this late like this.” I recognized the voice, it was Sebastian, and he wasn't happy. He pushed me towards Chris. “Get to the Cafe, I'll handle Krystal.”
“Are you sure you can handle a pure?”Chris yelled.438Please respect copyright.PENANAKDgb2jP9jP
“GET TO THE CAFE NOW.”Sebastian boomed. Chris took my hand and pulled me off towards the Cafe as we listened to Sebastian and the monster named Krystal's fighting grow distant…
