bustling rioting festival

of coral and fish

emerging from the endless

blue

water.

like an island,

an island isolated,

in the undulating undersea.

bursting with beauty

and uniqueness.

'biodiverse',

a rare and wonderful group

of so many species.

fish of every hue,

sharks patrolling,

elegant gliding rays

and dolphins.

a slippery and shy octopus

under that rock.

strange formations of coral.

polyp constructions.

bright and fragile.

a bustling rioting festival

of marine life.

'biodiverse',

praised and protected and wondered at.

bucket list boat trips.

scientists study

the specialness.

now,

looming

grey

skyscrapers.

stained pavements and

a block of flats.

nobody marvels.

nothing beautiful,

bizarre,

bucket list boat trip,

about it.

and yet

the people inside

are as diverse as jewelled fishscales,

as fins and flurrying,

as unique and ranging as

the kaleidoscope of colours

of coral.

as special and rare and wonderful

as the dancing cacophony

of species

but not of species,

but of soul.

bursting with beauty

and uniqueness.

every word

face

touch

thought

smile

frown

tear

dancing body,

floods the concrete

with colour and light.

nobody marvels.

why is that so,

when our

'bleak'

'modern'

'stark'

'industrial'

cities

are filled with

communities,

individuals,

groups,

families,

just as diverse,

'biodiverse',

as the bustling rioting reef?
