Ryou:
The Foolish One
Huh, well that was just weird. Why did Katrina talk to me about Yuka anyway? I began to ponder the situation as I walk to Yuka’s classroom, where I have electives with her.
Before the bell rang for homeroom, Katrina stopped me and demanded me to face Yuka for some crazy reason.
“Shut your mouth,” Katrina rasped after I objected that time, “You’re that guy who possesses the power of the Spatial Flare, correct?!”
“Yes I— wait a second, how did you know that I have that?!” How did she know I was part dragon?! I mean, true, I have the power to do some super special awesome transformation sequence, but I swear I never told anyone about my powers! How can this be?
“Look, you baka (idiot), face it. You wanna do battle with your mortal enemy, right?! I know you want to! Just give her a call and challenge her! Yeesh, it’s not that hard! Do it, and then incinerate Yuka with your pathetic dragon breath!”
“But why should I?” I said that time, “I don’t want anything to do with that naughty girl. Besides, why do you care? I thought you were her friend!”
“Humph, friendship this, friendship that,” Katrina snorted, “I don’t care that she sees me as her little friend. I think you should do as I say and rid her of this world!”
The conversation floats in my mind. I re-focus and arrive at homeroom like a dog with its tail between its legs. No doubt, something bothers me.
Only problem is, I can’t exactly tell what it was.
The name’s Ryou Aibou, the Half-Human, Half-Dragon teenage boy with powers that control space and time. Yuka is my enemy, and I feel that she thinks the same way. We’ll never get along, and I’ll make sure of that.
Yuka-san didn’t say a word to me today. Most of the time, I could see her gaze into space and not move a muscle, even when I tap her gently on the shoulder. Her eyes usually turn green when my teacher wasn’t—
Wait a minute, GREEN?! I slowly stare at Yuka’s eyes and saw that aqua jade hue as clear as day in her intense look. Impossible! I thought. Her eyes are normally the darkest of brown! How can this actually be?! This girl ain’t human!
But why was I supposed to care?! I quickly turn my back on her and resume to working on my assignment.
When the bell rings for next period, Yuka silently gathers her things in a neat pile and drags herself out of the classroom. I trail after her and notice drops of water sprinkling the ground beside as she walks. She is crying. Something in my heart wants me to talk to her, comfort her, but another piece commands me to hold back, which I did.
I meet up with my little crowd of friends and laugh with them all the way to P.E.
I forgot about the spooky green hue in Yuka’s eyes after that.
Hours later, I sit impulsively on my seat, waiting eagerly for the lunch bell to ring. I gaze at the clock, not taking my eyes off the minute hand as it slowly made its way around.
The bell echoes throughout the walls. I prop upright and rush out with my friends to goof off and chug the day’s pleasures into our mouths.
But after I ate, I find Yuka, who is transfixed at a blank side of the lunchroom, stone still.
With interest, I creep over and approached her with some of her friends, most of them trying to wake her up. I gaze into her eyes, and see that the scary aqua jade hue was in her pupils once again.
My eyesight is starting to fade to a blur. My mind feels like it’s drowning in water. I collapse on the floor at the sight of Yuka’s eyes, hearing only the impact of my fall and the faint calling of “Ryou! Ryou!”
Then, the vision enters my mind.
There is only me and something huge, tall, and black that I can’t see. It looks like an elegant dragon. The fog made it difficult to see what it actually was. But as it lifts, I realize that I am looking at my alternate form, the dragon of Spatial Flare.
I was in awe with its beautiful appearance. It had gold, flashing scales that were traced by a maroon shade. Its jet-black wings were spread and revealed a graceful, scaly pattern. The body was long but moved like a dancer in a stage production. This dragon is so…graceful!
A familiar voice rings out. “Have you found the chosen one yet?”
“Huh?! Well, no…” I stutter defiantly.
“Foolish one! Have you fallen short with your ways? Have you been blinded by the forces of your malicious heart?! Remember, things are not what they seem to be!”
“Hold on a second. You’re saying that the chosen one-!”
The voice does not answer, and I am left alone, for the dragon has faded from my vision.
“Ryou, are you there?”
“Huh?” I blink and see that I am surrounded by my friends, all of them looking worried.
“You, like, froze up, man. We tried to, like, wake you up, but apparently you were, like, frozen stiff and literally glued to the floor. You sure you’re fine, Ryou-kun?”
No, I’m not, I wanted to say. I had to be reminded about this for the second time today! Why? WHY?! If I don’t find this chosen one soon, my life might be snatched away! AGH! I wanna give up here, throw it all away, right here, right now!
But if I did, what would happen to me?!
“Yeah,
I’m fine,” I lie, “By the way, Matsu-kun, I kill your monster,” My friends and
I resume to playing our role-playing game without hesitation. Good, because I
need to clear my mind.
But no matter how much I did to rid of these thoughts, the words swirl and churn in my mind.
Things are not what they seem to be…
From Katrina’s Log:
Entry #2 for Case #13
Everything is going according to plan.
The tractions are looking good. All I need to do now is get Ryou to face her, and then eliminate them before they can start foiling our plans.
But this girl…this Yukanna Hito…she’s something different than ever before. No one’s eyes can change color. No one spoke like her, and she is the only one I’ve known that can read minds. She even had audacity to read mine! The horror!
If this girl is who I think she is, then part of my mission will be complete. There might be some modifications, but nevertheless, the plan is almost complete.
But do I really want them to face off?! Oh well. If this goes successfully, Yukanna will be in my clutches in no time.
I can’t wait to fulfill my conspiracies.
