Chains and Rose Petals

I found you in the early morning hours,

When the rest of the world was at rest.

Chained to technology like a burden,

The endless hate flashing across screens,

And then you.

I was raised to keep my heart bleeding,

Let my blood be the nectar for those

Whose hunger seemed relentless.

Not aware of what I had given up,

And then you.

You offered kindness with no price,

And your heart bled but at your command.

I never believed love was selfless,

Or anything but sacrifice,

And then you.

Despair had found its way into my bones,

The loneliness of talking to walls who claimed to love me,

Know me.

Yet nobody could recall how I favored yellow,

And then you.

I fell for you slowly,

Unknowingly waiting until the moon kissed the sky.

I'd sneak off into the darkness,

And where there was usually panic and dread,

Now

There was you.
