Already I was learning about other creatures in a way I couldn't have on my own. Sure there was Wikipedia but really that only told from the human prospective. Only 20 or so minutes in this class and I had already learned that my ideas about some things were way off. It was like wondering what cat's felt, or how they saw things, only to find you could actually talk to one and find out. That would be weird right? To be able to ask if cat's were actually more aware then they seemed, they just don't care about things?
I had already known these creatures existed, but anything I knew about this was theory based on what I had heard or read. This was certainly surreal.
After writing 'Gremlin' on the board Gina turned towards us once more.
" Gremlins, like most of us, have a not so great history. Humans priorities were often on family and staying alive. But most of us lived only to serve ourselves and our own wants. Thankfully a lot has changed sense then and we have both evolved."
" Except Werewolves." The Gremlin mentioned.
" Oh?" Gina asked stepping around the desk.
" Why is that?" She asked rather simply. He snickered in a huff, as if she should have known.
" Well come on. Werewolves were not like any of us. They hunted humans, their families during the night. They were savage animals. Werewolves are not even animals, they are not wolves or dogs or anything natural even to us. They spawn from veil creatures that were banished by God himself. " He huffed and shook his head, clearly disgusted by the very idea of werewolves.
" Well." Gina begun.
" We actually have some Werewolves going to school right now." It was as if everyone stopped breathing at once. Things that were once quiet, seemed to grow much quieter.
" Why? Why would you invite Werewolves here?" He questioned, seemingly a bit taken back from what he had learned.
" Well, as you know, true werewolves have all been hunted down hundreds of years ago and killed. But GENE carries on and Werewolf are still born ever so often. As you know Werewolves are born from humans and have human families. But there hasn't been a problem with a werewolf for a long time." The boy scoffed and rolled his eyes.
" We all have more or less delinquent like ancestors. But Werewolves once they turn have no indentation, sense of self, priorities. They just kill. They would wipe out entire villages in Scandinavia." He muttered, his eyes turned off and towards the ground in a silent judgment of them. Werewolves were creatures known for their lack of human judgement. Some even would say they lacked a soul. They were not actual wolves, instead they were simply called wolves by the locals, though who had no further explanation of what they were. From what I had heard, they appeared dog like in the mug mostly and in the fur. But the rest of their body was long, and gangly. I didn't know much else about them other than there were few of them and that they were dangerous creatures. I could feel however, that this was the vastness of most everyone's knowledge.
The fact that some were going to this school sparked my curiosity. Even though the contract made it clear the instructors are not responsible for us, it was still a little surprising to me that they were letting werewolves go to the school. With the fact that werewolves could change under a full moon and during a large emotional swing, they were a little un predictable. It was also said that they even in their more humanoid form had anger problems and poor social skills. Hm, it made me wonder if they would stand out at all.
Gina moved back to the board and wrote 'Werewolves' before turning back to us.
" Well, I can't speak for the founders of this school. But werewolves are dangerous. They are here, so if you do see one in it's more animal form I suggest you stay away from it. We are responsible for what happens inside the school, not out of it. We were all invited for the same reason and we all hold potential threat to each other. I am not for or apposed to this idea but I do want to warn you to just be cautious never the less." It was a strange feeling to know that with all of these other supernatural creatures, we were all in a little bit of danger. This was not like living in the city with humans, when my greatest fears are to be lied too or manipulated or bullied. But here my mind could be read, my dreams could be manipulated, I could be in physical danger. There was the sense of hazard, jeopardy. I was not totally safe. Neither was anyone else.
" Alright. Well we have three things written on the board. If you all could between today and tomorrow see who or what else you could meet please do so. I would love it is you could meet a creature you have not before and maybe get to know a little about them. Let's see what we can gather about these three beings, what other beings are going to this school, and what we can learn about them. Normally we don't believe in homework because this is not a credited school. But for today I think it would be a good idea.." With the sense of class about to end people begun to mutter and pack of their things.
" And I will see you all tomorrow at same time. But if you feel like this might not be the class for you. Go ahead and try out another class tomorrow. I am sure you all already know this but this is a very informal community school. Supernatural beings such as ourselves being the community." She informed with a small chuckle.
" Alright have a nice day." She said as she turned and begun to erase the names from the board. The black haired witch leaned in, saying in a hushed tone not needing the whisper, but not wanting to be the loudest voice in the room.
" I am Veronica by the way. But you can call me Vivi. "
" I'm Gail, it's not to meet you." I said leaning out a hand and giving her a firm hand shake.
" So werewolves. I don't know if that makes me nervous or intrigued." She said as she stood, me soon standing after her.
" Yea I feel the same way. I know people say they are dangerous but they are so few now and mostly live in the woods don't they? So even though they might be dangerous, there hasn't been any real incident with them for a while now"
" And now there are three of them living in a building with 300 more people" We both laughed, some nervousness laced in our tones.
Once we left the class room we both separated. I took Anatomy for my next class. The boy who had set himself against me had already left, leaving me without the displeasure of having to deal with his foolish behavior. The class was interesting, informative, and gave me some things to think about. It was only the first class but it was interesting to know that everyone in this school was different from just a normal human. We were all humanoids, all persons, but not all the same.
After my third class, it was time for lunch. We had all paid in advance for it as well as our rooms. They were all reasonably priced however. There was no scheming to see how much money they could squeeze out of us. It was honorable, the wish to actually teach us about ourselves and each other. It was not for profit, or for some kind of personal gain, it was for our gain. Even now the aura, though stale, was fresh and open. There were no hidden agendas in the school. Despite all of the separate minds, personalities, wants, needs, fears, there was a peace here, one I had not yet felt at any other place.
The Cafeteria has four double door choices of which to enter. The cafeteria was open, with three walls of only windows we have a wonderful view of the outside. When you walk in, you are face with five rows of tables, each row holding four tables spread equally apart so walking between them was simple. The ceiling was about 20 feet high with yes, fluorescent light, but the deep light pouring in from all the windows made up for the electric glow it offered. Though it was rather drab and stormy outside the natural light was much more pure and capable than imitation light.
Then, for the food, instead of having stations build into the walls, there were carts, much like the kind you might find in the park, selling things. Though these carts were larger with more options. I supposed the food was made beforehand for the most part, then offered to us in the form of options. There were about seven carts parked around the outside of the tables with options.
I had a few choices of foods. Being a witch you might think 'A' I eat crocodile scales, with roots an bu legs, or 'B' I eat only the food of a classy well rounded white collar worker. No, I did not like either of those things. I liked normal food like a normal person, like a BLT. Though my pallet did enjoy some tea with my lunch, BLT's were where it was at. After getting my BLT, some Chips, and my cup of tea I sat myself down at one of the rows of tables.
