Her footsteps were quiet, deliberate. Not there. But her mind was, or was it? She didn't know, but all she did know was that whoever Cassian truly was; he was no good. The way his eyes danced with danger, the way his words were too soft, too velvety to be true. Everything about him was odd, and she didn't care one bit.
Her eyes locked on the front door of the house, inviting yet she didn't want to go. That is until she heard a few gunshots fire, she sighed walking inside and shutting the door. Did those stupid 'gang' members ever learn? Her mom was still asleep, which was good. Everything looked great in it's place, no one nor nothing was missing. That's also good, this way she didn't have to worry about anyone else in her family being gone. Emery walked up the stairs, quiet and deliberate. Just like her steps that weren't there earlier. Her door opened and closed as she made her way into her room.
Her mind was now full, it was a bit new for her. Since the past six months it's been empty, not mentioning all her stress and worry. All of this was new for her, to say the least. She never expected her brother to go missing, she never wanted any of this to happen. Yet it did, because strange things always happen in Willow's End... And yet no one seems to care.
Emery tossed and turned in bed, unable to go to sleep. Too consumed by her thoughts, too confused. She went on her phone, maybe that will help her a bit. She went onto a website she had recently discovered called: 'Willow's End strange cases during 2018.' It wasn't much, mostly the same four cases every single time. But she enjoyed going through them every once in a while. Usually because of her boredom, and sometimes she learned new things every other time she read them. As she started reading the first case all over again, she got a text from the same number, the message banner hanging on the top of her phone like a Christmas decoration just long enough for her to debate if she should read it or not. But she did anyway, her stupid finger moving to tap on it, sending her to the messages app.
'You're closer than you think, Little light.. Just you wait..'
Oh that annoying name he used on her when they talked at the corner store. That stupid name, that for some reason made her heart pound like crazy. Not that she enjoyed it or anything... Moving on!
She sighed, sitting up and rolling her eyes. Right closer to what exactly? She thought.
'The truth that is'
She blinked as the bubble appeared, what was he some kind of mind reader?
'Can you just leave me alone?' She sent, watching as it said delivered under the blue bubble.
'No can do, starling. But, you can go somewhere, where the lanterns are the nights sun, and the doors the mornings moon.' He replied, she raised a brow.
'Do you always have to talk in riddles even by goddamn imessages?'
'That's just part of my charm, good luck'
And that was it, nothing less nothing more. A good luck, but where could that be exactly? Lanterns and doors? The Lighthouse? Why the hell would he want her to go to the lighthouse? But she did so anyway, and within minutes she was at the lighthouse, entering slowly... She walked up the stairs, looking around. Her eyes landed on a small chest, she bend down and opened it. There wasn't much, but dust and a few pictures. She dusted some of it away, and grabbed a picture. She tilted her head, it was familiar. Ian, she remembered this day. It had been two days before his disappearance, Emery had taken this picture herself.
But there was something odd in the background, a person. She hadn't notice them before, watching Ian. And it looked just like Cassian.
What she didn't know is that, that's Cassian's nature. Always watching, but from where? The shadows..
"Curious little ghost... Always lurking in the shadows you're not ready to face.." Cassian muttered, looking down at Emery from the second floor of the lighthouse, a small smile on his face. This was exactly where he needed her to be, and the plan would finally work from here. Just you wait...
