Chapter 009
Beeihae Shinnshiow
The person sitting in the wheelchair raised his hand. He seemed to be trying to wave. However, it was obvious his body was still limp. His hands immediately drooped.
"How are you?" That person let out a voice that indeed still sounded like someone who was not well.
The nurse pushed the wheelchair up to the side of the bed where Shinnshiow was lying. Shinnshiow tried to get up, but the nurse held him back.
"Sir, you can't stand up yet."
Shinnshiow shook his head vigorously. "I'm all right now." he insisted.
"Sorry, Sir! It's an order from the doctor."
"Shiowdi, don't bother this wonderful nurse. She is just doing her job. You just obey," said Shannchyuan.
"Dahge, who entered this hospital after me, even got permission to go out of the room."
"I'm not poisoned," said Shannchyuan.
"Eh! Dahge already knows about my situation?" Shinnshiow was slightly surprised.
"Tsaehorng has told me a bit about you. He said you were poisoned. So, I'm definitely doing a lot better than you."
"Actually, Mister Duanmuh was also poisoned." The nurse responded to Shannchyuan's remark.
"But it's not the kind of poison that can harm lives." Shannchyuan laughed. He looked so relaxed.
"Nurse, how about I take Mr. Duanmuh back to his room later," Tsaehorng said.
"Sorry, Sir! The doctor ordered me to return Mr. Duanmuh back to his room. He said Mr. Duanmuh was only allowed to be outside the room for a limited time. Only twenty-five minutes at most."
"Well, right now, I'm also inside the hospital room. So twenty-five minutes is not valid." Shannchyuan laughed again.
"That's not what it means, Sir," said the nurse.
Yihshyong, who was still standing, smiled at the nurse. "We know what it means. Mr. Duanmuh was just kidding." He looked at Tsaehorng.
Tsaehorng nodded. The young man took the nurse out of the room. After three minutes, he came in again with a face so beaming. He entered alone. The nurse did not come back into the room.
"Done!" Tsaehorng said with a big laugh.
"Eh? What did you say to the nurse?" Iren looked at Tsaehorng in amazement.
"It's a secret, Uncle." Tsaehorng smiled.
Yihshyong smiled broadly. He turned his gaze towards Shannchyuan. "How's Dahge doing?"
"As you can see. I'm just still feeling a bit weak." Shannchyuan moved his hands and feet.
"I don't think it's a little weak. Dahge is still very weak," said Jenqyih.
Shannchyuan laughed. "I don't feel that way."
"What Dahge feels is totally irrelevant. Others judge." Jenqyih took out those sentences while smiling broadly.
"Okay!" Shannchyuan sighed. "This time I really have to obey." He looked around him. "I'm sure there's something you guys want to ask."
"What happened to Dahge?" Iren walked up to Shannchyuan. The movement was so slow. Shinnshiow didn't know why. He also did not want to rack his brain to guess about it.
"I don't know." Shannchyuan replied as fast as lightning. Like almost without thinking.
"Dahge don't know?" Iren looked at Shannchyuan with a look filled with doubt.
"I don't know what happened. I have absolutely no memory."
"What's the last thing Dahge remembers?" Shinnshiow, who was still lying down, tried to tilt his body so that his neck wouldn't hurt as he looked at Shannchyuan.
"I remember I was in the main hall of that big mall. A flash of light made me unable to see. After that, I heard a sound that really hurt my ears. After that, I fainted."
"After that, what happened?" asked Iren.
"Hmm…. I remember I was lying tied up in a dark room together with Yinqyueh. After that, I fainted again. Then, I didn't know how long after I passed out, I faintly heard someone coming to help us."
"So, between the two incidents, Dahge remember nothing?"
Shannchyuan shook his head.
"What did the doctor said?" Yihshyong turned to Tsaehorng.
"The doctor said Uncle Duanmuh has partial amnesia. So, he only forgets things that have happened over a period of time."
"What's the reason?" asked Iren.
"The reasons can vary. In Uncle Duanmuh's case, they haven't been able to give a definite answer."
"What kind of hospital is this? Everything is so uncertain." Jenqyih looked displeased.
"Jenqyih, don't be like that. What's important is that I'm fine now. I think tomorrow I'll also recover as before." Shannchyuan smiled.
"Sorry Dahge, maybe there really is something that's bothering my mind." Jenqyih took a deep breath.
"Maybe you're hungry," Shannchyuan said.
"Speaking of hunger, did Tsaehorng tell Dahge about what happened to Shinnshiow?" Yihshyong asked.
What is the connection between me and the hunger they feel? This doesn't make any sense!
"He already said that Shinnshiow was poisoned," said Shannchyuan.
"The doctor said that. I don't know the details either," said Tsaehorng. "Perhaps Uncle Beeihae can tell us all in person."
"I think you are much better now," Iren told Shinnshiow. "So I don't think telling you about it is something that will make your health condition worse."
Shinnshiow nodded. He then told him everything he remembered, not just what happened this morning. But several times he was silent because he had to arrange the right words. There was Tsaehorng there. He knew that there were things they had to hide. Shinnshiow didn't know what kind of developments had taken place so far. So he had to guess what things he shouldn't say when Tsaehorng was there.
Everyone looked at Shinnshiow with faces that were hard to describe when Shinnshiow had finished telling his story.
"So you have absolutely no idea where you were?" Shannchyuan raised his eyebrows.
"This may sound strange to your ears. However, there isn't much I can explain about that place. When I arrived at the place, I was in a trance. When I was brought out by Mister Horngshi, I was also unconscious. While I was there, I was just in the room."
"They never gave you a chance to work out any muscles, or anything else, outside of that room?" Yihshyong asked.
Shinnshiow shook his head. "The bathroom is in the room, so I really didn't need to go anywhere. From start to finish, I was just there. Except for the time I managed to sneak out and call our house. That was a blink."
"Then how did the poison enter your body?" Jenqyih asked.
Shinnshiow just shook his head again.
"There may be more important questions," said Shannchyuan. "That is, was this intentional or just an accident?"
Yihshyong continued with Shannchyuan's words. "If it's intentional, what's the reason? And if it's just an accident, how come there's poison in there?"
"Yihge. I think now is the time." Iren glanced at the clock on the wall.
Jenqyih nodded. "Thank you for reminding me. Maybe Mr. Jongli is already waiting for me in the building across the street."
"You go now. It's not good to keep him waiting," said Shannchyuan.
"Okay, I'll go first. Hopefully, I'll come back here with some good news."
Jenqyih walked steadily and immediately disappeared behind the door.
"What do you think, Dahge?" asked Iren.
"About what?"
"About Jenqyih's friend." Iren explained what he meant.
"My stance is still the same as before. I don't really trust that person," said Shannchyuan. "But right now we have no other choice. I have a hunch that the police will close this case with the arrest of some of the people involved in Shinnshiow's kidnapping. Those people may just be small fish whose function is only as a sacrifice. It could be that there is a significant force behind it all. This is only a temporary assumption. Could be true, could also not. But we'd better be prepared for the worst."
"Dahge, do you mean the worst thing that could happen to Songfei?" Shinnshiow's voice trembled slightly.
"Yes, that is one of them. But maybe Songfei can avoid this misfortune if he knows how to behave."
"Eh?" Iren frowned. "Dahge said that. Do you mean Songfei has to keep his mouth shut if he wants to be nothing less?"
"We're not kids anymore. We're not naïve teenagers who believe that things should be plainly known to everyone. Nor are idealists who are members of a utopia. We know that there are things we are better off leaving as they are."
"So Dahge suggested we just forget about all the evil that's been going on around us." Iren sounded like someone who was confused.
"That's not what I meant," said Shannchyuan. "We have to do everything in a measured way. If it is something we can afford to deal with, surely we should investigate it thoroughly. But if we can't, because the enemy is too strong or other things, then we also have to be realistic. It shouldn't happen that we bend over to pick up a grain of rice that has fallen on the floor, then because we lose our balance, instead the pot of rice on the table overturns."
"So for this problem, what should we do according to Dahge?" asked Iren.
"Songfei has worked hard to fulfill him dream. Although his dream is not the same as ours, he is still our friend. So I want us to try our hardest to save him."
Yihshyong smiled broadly. "Dahge's mind matches me perfectly!"
Shyongge must have been worried that Dahge would decide to give up our efforts to help Songfei. He couldn't possibly argue with Dahge, so there would definitely be a contradiction in his heart.
Iren also laughed. "Hopefully Jenqyih will come back here with a beautiful song."
"Don't worry, Uncles. I will always be willing to help as much as I can," said Tsaehorng.
"Actually, we really don't feel comfortable bothering you again and again," said Iren. "I don't know what would have happened to us if this Young Master Mingju wasn't around us."
"Uncle, don't praise me too much. Precisely I can be like this because of the help of uncles and Mr. Gongyang. So I will definitely find a way to be able to help him."
"Tsaehorng, why don't you bring your employee, who sounds so much like me, here?"
"Actually, he was ready to come here, but suddenly there was something that required his presence," said Yihshyong.
"What kind of thing?" Shannchyuan asked.
Yihshyong told about his initiative, which was to have Jinqkang instead of Shannchyuan talk to the kidnappers. It happened several times. Even then, the police also imitated Yihshyong's way.
Is such a thing possible to do? I wonder what kind of person they are talking about.
"Your idea is brilliant." Shannchyuan clapped his hands while grinning.
"Actually, I was worried that Dahge would blame me," said Yihshyong.
"You worried too much." Shannchyuan was still smiling. "In such a tight situation, you can come up with an idea like that. I don't think anyone can blame you."
Yihshyong's face showed a relieved expression. He nodded with a smile.
"Dahge!" Iren raised his hand.
"What is it?" Shannchyuan turned to Iren.
"Can I ask about something else?"
"Is your question still related to the things that happened recently?"
"Of course."
"Please tell me what you think."
"This is about Mr. Yeuduo Jendaw."
"What's wrong with him?"
"All this time, how well did Dahge know him?"
It was obvious in Shinnshiow's eyes that Iren couldn't hide his enthusiasm when he asked the question.
But, I think all the other friends are also curious about that matter. If that person believed in Dahge that much, then maybe their relationship was quite close. But if they were close enough, why had Dahge never talked about that person before?
"I don't know him very well. He is the brother-in-law of one of my underclassmen," Shannchyuan replied.
Eh? Not very familiar? This is so exciting!
"Actually, I'm also curious about that." Yihshyong joined in on the topic. "Before, how many times did Dahge meet Mr. Yeuduo?"
Shannchyuan turned his head towards the window. He seemed to be racking his brain to remember it.
Maybe Dahge's amnesia is quite severe!
Iren and Yihshyong looked at each other. Their facial expressions were a bit hard to describe. Shinnshiow had suspected that they were a little sorry for bringing that up.
After about forty seconds, Shannchyuan finally opened his mouth. "I've only met that person twice. The first time was during my underclassman's birthday about ten years ago."
"So, before the birthday event, Dahge never met Mr. Yeuduo at all?" Yihshyong asked.
Shannchyuan shook his head. "But I've heard of him. My underclassmen have told me several times about his brother-in-law."
"Then the second?"
"The second time was five years ago. At that time, my underclassmen took me and several other people for a vacation on a remote island."
"Wow! Vacation on a deserted island? That's great!" Unknowingly, Shinnshiow joined in on the conversation.
Shannchyuan shook his head. "Even though my underclassmen say that, it's actually not quite right to classify the occasion as a vacation. My underclassmen went there at the invitation of the local government in a small area."
"Then, the island?" Iren's eyes seemed to shine.
"That island is a small island that is administratively under the control of that territory. It's very close to the coast. Less than ten kilometers, I think."
"Invitation from the local government?" Yihshyong raised his eyebrows. "Did anything important happen there at the time?"
"I have to explain first," said Shannchyuan. "So, before that, there had been the discovery of ancient objects in one of the many underground caves that were scattered there. The local government invited my underclassmen, who were indeed experts in that field. He then invited several people, including myself, to come over there. So he formed a team of members he chose himself. I was a member of that team."
"So, Dahge's underclassmen also invited Mr. Yeuduo?" asked Iren.
"No." Shannchyuan replied quickly. "The local government also invited Mr. Yeuduo. My juniors also just found out about it after we met Mr. Yeuduo there."
"Oh, it turns out that Mr. Yeuduo is indeed an important person," said Shinnshiow.
"Actually, the local government invited some quite large media. At that time, Yeuduo Jendaw came there as a representative of the magazine he worked for."
Yihshyong nodded. "Now I remember I read an article about that. The local government on the island had invited a lot of media to promote tourism there. They thought archaeological discoveries could boost the number of tourists."
"Correct!" Shannchyuan gave a thumbs up. "I didn't expect that the news would also reach our hometown. Not many people there knew about that news."
"I just happened to read the news." Yihshyong laughed. "I didn't expect that Dahge was one of the experts present there."
"Dahge never told us about that," said Iren.
"Yes. I haven't told you about that before. However, I don't think I have much to say. I fell ill there. Therefore, my involvement with what happened there was minimal."
Dahge seems reluctant to share his experiences there! Has something unpleasant happened in that place?
Iren and Yihshyong nodded.
It seems they also realize that this isn't the right time to make Dahge open his mouth about that.
"We are back to discussing Mr. Yeuduo," said Yihshyong. "Did he contact Dahge after that?"
"Never."
"Not even once?" Iren's tone was like that of someone who doubted the truth of the information she heard.
Shannchyuan nodded. "I'm pretty sure about that."
"Then how did he know our address and home phone number?" asked Iren.
"I think he knew from my underclassman. One year ago, I wrote a letter to my underclassman. I informed him I was trying to live in this gigantic city filled with historical relics."
"I thought Mr. Yeuduo intended to visit Uncle Duanmuh in this city. But the thugs caught him before he could contact Uncle." Tsaehorng, who had not participated in the conversation about this matter before, suddenly opened his mouth.
Shannchyuan nodded. "I hope he's all right."
"Eh! The police borrowed Jinqkang because his voice and accent are similar to Dahge's. However, now Dahge is here. Wouldn't it be best if Dahge spoke directly to Mr. Yeuduo?" said Yihshyong.
"Uncle is right," Tsaehorng said. "But the police want to get information from Mr. Yeuduo as soon as possible. The doctors here definitely haven't allowed Uncle Duanmuh to go anywhere. So, the police must have chosen to continue with their plan. After all, Jinqkang is already there."
"Dahge doesn't have to actually be present to meet Mr. Yeuduo. He could just call Mr. Yeuduo from here. Jinqkang could trick the criminals, but Mr. Yeuduo is a very experienced investigative journalist. If he suspects Jinqkang isn't Dahge, then maybe, even though later it is Dahge himself who called him, he may not just believe it," said Iren.
"Let's just tell to the police about this. Whether they accept it or not, that's the police's business," said Yihshyong. After looking at the clock, he tapped Tsaehorng on the shoulder. "I think you should escort Dahge to the room where he is being treated."
Tsaehorng immediately inched in front of Shannchyuan. "Uncle Duanmuh, how is it? Are you satisfied?"
Shannchyuan sighed. "Of course I'm not satisfied. But now I have to go back to my room. If I disobey now, then next time it may be even more difficult to get permission."
"Uncle Beeihae, Uncle Nangong, and Uncle Shimen. I'll take Uncle Duanmuh to his room first."
"Please. Be careful on the way," said Iren and Yihshyong.
Tsaehorng reached for the wheelchair push. He then turned the wheelchair towards the exit. Iren ran to open the door so that Tsaehorng wouldn't have to go back and forth. Before disappearing behind the door, Tsaehorng and Shannchyuan turned around and waved.
