Mallory wasn't expecting the goat.
He'd anticipated everything else - the giant white gates, the giant trees on either side, the winged humans fluttering around, even the oddly tall statue of Peter at the gate.
But what he was not expecting was for a goat to walk up to him, shake his hand, and then stare at him expectantly. He watched the goat, incredibly confused, and slightly amused, Mallory edged around the goat, creeping carefully toward the gate, keeping an eye on the goat, who was still looking at him like it wanted something. Turning around once he reached the gates, he noticed an angel in brilliant gold armor was glaring at him.217Please respect copyright.PENANA61uWBhC3sW
"Name and business," echoed a melodic voice. For a second, Mallory stared at the angel stupidly, shocked into silence by how beautiful their voice was.
"Name and business," repeated the angel, slightly annoyed.217Please respect copyright.PENANA5MvjXEreo9
"I-I'm Mallory McCormick," said Mallory. "I'm pretty sure I'm dead."
The angel tilted its head, then gestured over another angel. This angel was holding what seemed to be a clipboard, and together, the two angels perused the clipboard.
"Hmm," hummed the angel. "It doesn't seem you're on our list."
Mallory frowned. "I'm sure there must be some confusion. I-I've always been an upstanding citizen. I-I followed His word, I helped and never hurt, I followed the law, I was the best I could be."
The angel looked at him coldly. "I'm afraid there's nothing we can do. You aren't on our list. You have no choice. Welcome to Heaven."
Mallory tilted his head. "What?"
The angel grinned, and Mallory gasped as he saw the angel's long, spindly, yellowed, rotting teeth.
"I said," the angel hissed, its melodic voice replaced by a rasping whisper, "welcome to Heaven."
Looking up at the gates, Mallory steeped back. The beautiful ivory gates had been replaced with an open maw, the metal of the gate looking like it might clamp down on you at any moment.
Looking to the angels, he was terrified to see that their angelic wings were mutating, forming large arms attached to their back, their normal arms and legs twisting, the sound of bones growing and twisting echoing through the air as a horrifying creature burst out of the once-beautiful angels.
Mallory opened his mouth to scream, only to claw at his throat as no sound came forth.
Mallory stumbled back, tripped over a rock, only to turn and see that it wasn't a rock, it was a human skull. Screaming in silence, he scrambled back, just in time for one of the monsters to land right on top of him.
He silently cried and screaming, mutely begging for the creatures to stop, to show him mercy.
The creature leaned over his body, its drool dripping onto his skin, the blackened and congealed material immediately hardening, limiting his movement, and he desperately tried to free himself. Within minutes, he was completely paralyzed, forced to stay still as several of these creatures circled around him, all drooling and hissing, seeming to talk to each other in clicks and hisses.
Mallory screamed in pain as he felt one lean forward and tear off his hand, trying to block out the sound of muscle being chewed, and off bones snapping under teeth.
He screamed again, still silently, as another nipped off his foot, the next his entire leg. Blood was pouring from his body, and as the creatures clambered over him, their strange stretched limbs scraped deep grooves into his skin.217Please respect copyright.PENANANOo8FaJH91

Mallory let out a gurgling scream as one of them tore into his stomach, and he watched in horror as the beast started tugging out his intestines, screaming as his insides tore and twisted, the creature seemingly starving, as it tore at his stomach. shredding his entire torso.217Please respect copyright.PENANAKGF4eyvzZz
He let out a garbled moan as another beast clamped its sharp teeth around his neck, and he started to choke out blood as the beasts all tore at his body, his blood covering the ground beneath him, staining it a dark, ill red.
Mallory let out one last garbled, twisted attempt at speech, an indistinct plea for help, before finally, his vision faded, and he died.
Mallory shot up in bed, his heart pounding in his chest, gasping loudly, inhaling breath after breath, sweat covering his body.
After a minute of calming down, Mallory shook his head and blinked a few times, his vision slightly disoriented. Setting his hand on the bed to stabilize himself, Mallory frowned at the wet spot his hand had landed on. Lifting up his hand, he was shocked to see it covered in a dark red substance. Standing up, he stumbled, half-asleep, half-terrified, into the bathroom. After tossing some water onto his face, he was confused as that same red substance poured down, his eyes stinging. He turned slowly to look in the mirror, afraid of what he would see.
His vision wasn't disoriented. His eyeballs were just hanging out of their sockets, as their sockets no longer existed. What little was left of his skin was covered in blood, his heart was dangling out of his chest, and he could now see that he was dragging his intestines across the floor, covering them in blood. The left side of his face was little more than bones, and the other side looked like it had been burned with acid. One of his arms was broken and bloody, the other rotted and bony. His waist was barely there, and his legs were little more than a skeleton.
Looking at himself in shock, he lifted a hand, horror filling his eyes as his mirrored self lifted its hand. He lifted his other hand and watched as the mirror copied his movement.
He turned in a circle, unnerved as his mirrored self stared at him. He tilted his head, but the reflection didn't. Suddenly, the reflection shot out its hand, the hand breaking through the mirror, and wrapping around Mallory's neck.
Mallory gasped in surprise, struggling to free himself, crying as the reflection's hand tightened.
As if bored, the reflection suddenly tossed him down, Mallory's head snapping as it hit the bathtub, killing him instantly.
