I walked into Luca's room about an hour later.
I wasn't planning on waking him up, I just wanted to check on him after that spell I did.
I flicked on the lights, gazing down at the bed.
He was still sound asleep, breathing softly as his expression remained relaxed.
I smiled then, about to leave.
But I turned, lips parting.
His cheeks were slightly damp, his lashes, too.
I stared for a moment.
But then a stray tear slipped from his eye, and it slid down his cheek, into the pillowcase.
My lashes lowered.
Crying in his sleep again.
I stepped over to him then, gently sitting on the bed as I pulled the covers higher over him.
After brushing his hair away from his eyes, I lightly ran my thumbs along his cheekbones, drying the tears.
His face etched slightly at the feeling.
"Shhhh..." I cooed gently. "There's no need to cry. You're safe now."
His breaths were shallow, and I just picked his head slightly up and scooted over to him...
And I gently set his cheek on my lap, knowing he needed some sort of presence.
