Drew and the Book of Lost Magic

A Mysterious Discovery

The blaring alarm jolted Drew awake.

"Ugh… just five more minutes," he muttered, smacking the snooze button. But when he finally cracked his eyes open and glanced at his phone, his heart nearly stopped. 8:00 AM.

"Seriously?! Not again!"

Panic surged through him as he leapt out of bed, bolting straight to the shower. In record time, he threw on his school uniform, grabbed his bag, and dashed downstairs. His feet pounded against the steps—thud thud thud—echoing through the house.

"Good morning, son! Have some breakfast," his mom called from the kitchen.

"No time, Mom! I'm late!" he shouted, already halfway out the door.

Swinging his leg over his motorcycle, he revved the engine and sped toward school. When he arrived, there was no time to waste—he sprinted up the stairs, lungs burning, barely managing to catch his breath before bursting into the classroom.

"Good morning! I'm late!" he announced, still panting.

Mr. Matt crossed his arms and sighed. "Late again, Drew. What is it this time?"

"Uh… heavy traffic?" Drew said, forcing a sheepish smile.

Mr. Matt gave him a knowing look, shaking his head. "Just take your seat."

As Drew slumped into his chair, Edward, his seatmate, leaned over and whispered, "Lucky you. Mr. Matt was late, too—he just started class ten minutes ago!" They exchanged quiet chuckles before the lesson began.

When the class was dismissed, Drew started packing his things when he heard Mr. Matt call his name.

"Drew, stay for a moment."

He swallowed hard and walked up to the teacher's desk.

"You need to catch up in history. Your exam scores are terrible, and your tardiness is getting out of hand," Mr. Matt said, fixing him with a stern gaze. "But I’ll give you a chance to make up for it."

Drew watched as Mr. Matt slid a paper toward him.

"This is your assignment. Submit it by next Monday. No late submissions, understood?"

Drew nodded quickly. "Yes, sir. Thank you for the chance!"

Mr. Matt gave him a small nod before leaving the room.

Determined to make things right, Drew headed straight to the library. He scanned the shelves, searching for a book that could help with his assignment. Dust clung to the air as he ran his fingers over the old spines—until something unusual caught his eye.

A book, wedged between two thick volumes, stood out from the rest. Its dark leather cover was etched with golden symbols that shimmered under the dim library lights.

His fingers tingled as he reached for it. The book felt warm, almost alive. The title was unreadable, written in an ancient script that twisted and curled like flowing ink.

Curiosity got the best of him. He carefully flipped to the first page.

The Magic Unleashed

Drew traced the strange letters with his fingertips, his brow furrowed in concentration. Though the words made no sense, something about them felt... powerful.

He took a breath and whispered, “Magia sigillata, invoco te! Potentia abscondita, nunc liberare!”

The moment the last syllable left his lips, the book trembled violently in his hands. A low, resonant hum filled the air.

Then—WHOOSH!

A powerful gust of wind roared through the library, sending loose papers flying and rattling the shelves. Drew staggered back, his grip tightening on the book just as it burst open.

From within, a flurry of glowing sheets erupted into the air, swirling like fireflies. They shimmered, pulsating with an eerie, golden light before scattering in all directions—slipping through doors, darting between bookshelves, vanishing into the school beyond.

Drew barely had time to react before one of the luminous sheets froze in midair—then shot straight toward him.

"Whoa—!"

The glowing page passed through his chest.

A sudden warmth spread through his body, weightless and electric, as if he had been struck by pure energy. His vision blurred, his limbs tingling with a strange, unfamiliar power.

A New Power Awakened

Drew stumbled backward, clutching his chest. Something had changed. He could suddenly understand the ancient words in the book. He could hear whispers in his mind, voices from a forgotten past. He looked at his hands, and to his amazement, a faint blue glow surrounded them.

Had he just absorbed magic?
