John had some special lazer guns that he gave James, and Naomi, and I. Not only could it evaporate door handles, but it was capable of doing the same to a person. The plan was for Marley and Kay-ani to stay on the ship while the rest of us worked together to rescue Joseph.
We landed about 2 miles from the facility and were careful to hide behind some trees. As we stepped foot on the island, there were no guards seen. We walked through the small forest to get to the facility. It was cold and it was getting dark. We eventually reached an area where we could see bright lights coming from the one and only humongous building.
“I don’t know how to use this,” James said, talking about the lazer blaster gun.
“Press the orange button to take it off of safety. Then, press the yellow button when you are ready to shoot, but be careful because that weapon is very powerful,” John said.
“We’re not going to kill anyone are we?” Naomi said.
“I hope not.”
John led the way and gestured for us to follow behind him. We made our way to the building and waited for instructions on what was the next move.
From the corner of my eye, something caught my attention. It was a faint light emanating from the ground, It looked like it led into a tunnel.
“What’s that?” I whispered to John.
“I don’t know, it could be a tunnel for mining.”
We continued walking until we reached the building and came to a hidden entrance behind some bushes. We all helped him pull the brush off. He used some kind device to pick the lock carefully so that it wouldn’t trigger any alarm. I thought it would set off the alarm but it didn’t. We were now inside of the facility.
“Do we know where my dad is being held?” Naomi said.
“We must find the area with orange doors. That is where they keep the prisoners. I have a feeling we will find him there,” John said.
“Should we split up?”
“It’s not safe. None of you have training. We should stay together.”
We hurried through the hall, boarded an elevator, and went up to the fifth floor.
“Just as I remember it,” John said. “Orange doors are on the fifth floor.”
When the elevator doors opened, James pointed out guards that were coming our way. I quickly pressed the button to close the doors, but before they could close, a guard came and snatched me out.
Another pushed James down, and John managed to blast his arm off with his gun. The alarm began going off throughout the facility.
“Benjamin!” Naomi yelled. My heart dropped.
The guard punched me in my gut. I fell to the ground.
Naomi and John began trying to get the guard off of me. John aimed his gun at the guard but before he could shoot, the guard began shooting at him. Naomi and John made a run for it as bullets flew in their direction. James also began running and following them. They hid behind the corner to take cover. A third guard forced me into a room and locked me in. I got up and tried opening the door but it wouldn’t open.
I heard him say on his walkie talkie, “We got another one that tried to escape.”
I then realized that he thought that I was a Rasadian trying to escape. There was no way that I wanted to be in the hands of the T.S.I. I needed to find a way out and I needed to find one quickly.
~~~
I woke up with my arms tied behind me. The last thing I remember is the guard walking back into the room and knocking me out. Now I was facing a lady who I could barley see since my vision had been so blurry.
“Benjamin is it?” The lady said. My vision was blurry. My head was throbbing and one of my ribs felt broken.
“What?” I said.
“The girl said your name was Benjamin.”
I blinked hard and tried opening my eyes. “Yeah that's right.”
“Hhmm, you don’t look like a Benjamin to me,” she said. “That’s a human name.”
I was finally able to focus my eyes. It was Dr. Maddison who was interrogating me.
I didn’t answer her question.
“That’s okay, your friends got away, they're lucky. As for you, I have all the time in the world.”
“You have all the time in the world to torture innocent creatures?”
“I forgot to tell you. My name is Dr. Maddison. I’m intrigued that you know so much about what we do here. Did you escape from one of the facilities in the city?”
I still said nothing.
“I figured. How about this? I’ll answer a question you want to know and then you answer one of my questions,” she said. “Why are you and your friends here? Are you here to break someone out or were you sent here to gather information for someone?”
“I’m not here to gather information for anyone.” I said.
“So it’s the first one. Is it a loved one?”
After ignoring her next five questions, I could tell she was becoming furious. She grabbed me by the arm and said, “Let’s take a walk.”
“Where are we going?” I said. She proceeded to ignore me.
The first place she took me into was a room where a nurse was doing some kind of test by injecting an unconscious Rasadian with some kind of serum.
“Now testing Sample D,” said the nurse. She gave it to him. He woke up and he began screaming. The nurse then rushed to the side table to grab another needle that put the Rasadian back to sleep. Dr. Maddison told her that if the test subject was not ready by tomorrow, then he would have to be terminated. I thought about running out of the room at that point but I couldn’t move. I was terrified, I was sick to my stomach.
Then we left the room. Dr. Maddison did not say a word to me, not until we got to the next room full of Rasadian children locked in cells. They jumped back into their beds and hid in the dark afraid of her.
“These are the next test subjects,” she said. “They have been here all of their lives. I have a feeling that you did not grow up in a facility. Maybe raised by humans. You walk and talk just like a human. It is nothing like a Rasadian.” She pulled off the keys that were around her neck and opened one of the gates. Then I could see her grab a small Rasadian girl and throw her to the ground.
The Rasadian children started whimpering and crying out for the girl's name in fear, “Car-ri! Car-ri! Car-ri!”
“Shut up!” Dr. Maddison hit the gate. She pulled out a gun that was tucked in the back of her pants and pointed it at Car-ri.
“NOO!!” I yelled.
“Then tell me why you are here?!” she asked me again.
My heart began pounding out my chest, “YOU WOULD KILL AN INNOCENT LITTLE GIRL?!” I said.
“She’s not a girl, she’s an alien. You all are. Now you are going to tell me everything or I will pull the trigger!”
My lips stayed sealed.
These people really were villains. - I thought.
Although I didn't think she would shoot, I immediately leaped up and forced her arm and the gun away from Car-ri.
Then the gun went off. “BANG!” It shot a hole into the wall.
I pushed Dr. Maddison to the ground and grabbed Car-ri by the arm.
“Come on!” I yelled.
“Get back here!” Dr. Maddison hollered.
Before Dr. Maddison could get us, we ran out of the room, and dashed down the hall trying to find the elevator.
