Maya sighed, slumping down in her baby pink velvety chair in her college dorm room and hugged her knees close to her chest, shutting her eyes tightly as she had to bear to listen to Sienna keep on complaining about yet another stupid man.
"Ughhh..." Maya groaned out softly, reluctantly looking over at Sienna. "Who even is it this time? Mark? Koa again?" Yet before Maya could even finish listing off the names of men, Sienna interrupted.
"Ew!! No! I fucking hate Koa!!"
Maya rolled her eyes and looked away, lightly mocking Sienna. Not that she didn't agree, Koa did suck from the rumors shes heard, it's just the fact that Sienna wouldn't shut up about her situationships.
"Yeah yeah, photo of Koa's tongue down another bitches throat. Are you even surprised, Sienna? I mean you did know he was a player." Maya huffed, grabbing her phone from her desk to check if she had any notifications. Spotting a new text message from a friend, Maya quickly read over it.
"Hey, Sienna. You wanna go to a party? Y'know, maybe try to redeem yourself after all those douches? It's starting at 8." Maya then set her phone back down on her desk, looking over at Sienna who seemed to be internally debating whether she would go or not.
"Sure! Why not." Sienna walked over to her side of the room where her dorm bed was, plopping down onto it and pulling her own phone out, starting to doom scroll. "Don't you have classes though, Maya?"
"Oh. Yeah." Maya said, taking her phone and looking at the time and seeing that she barely had 30 minutes to get to class. "Shit!" She quickly got out of her seat and made her way to her closet, quickly changing out of her classic combo of a random T-shirt and pajama pants, into something at least half decent. A quick sweater and baggy jeans.
She then rushed into the bathroom, hurrying to brush the rats nest of what she calls her hair. The reason why Maya was hurrying despite having 30 minutes is because campus is surprisingly far away and always crowded.
"Girl, you better hurry, you know the professors are stepping up their game once they get all the annoying kids." Sienna called out casually.
"I know!" Maya called back, huffing as she set down her brush and just hoped for the best. She walked out of the bathroom and grabbed her socks, hopping on one foot trying to get them on. Eventually she put her shoes on, grabbing her bag and looking over her shoulder as she opened her door.
"See you later, Sienna!"
"See ya!"
Maya sighed, at least over halfway to her college. She kept walking forward, taking the quickest route she knew. But seeing from a distance, a group of guys, Maya didn't think of anything. Until the one sitting down on the stairs looked forward to one of his friends. Maya saw Mateo's face. Maya's feet paused, cursing under her breath as she tried figuring out how to get to the school without getting talked to or teased by those jerks. The other path also takes way longer.
Maya groaned lightly before continuing her path straight forward, trying to keep her eyes to herself and minding her own business. But as she reached the stairs Mateo looked over at her, his eyes raking over her before looking back at Koa. Koa just nodded, as if communication just through looks.
"Hey, Maya. Wheres Sienna?" Koa asked, walking towards her and wrapping his arm around Maya's shoulder.
Maya rolled her eyes, refusing to respond to Koa.
"Oh come on, Maymay! It was just a mistake. I bet she's aching to see me, right? She's totally been talking about me all the time." Koa said it like he was bragging, thinking he was all high and mighty.
"Shut up, Koa. Sienna doesn't want to see you, and she hasn't been talking about you." Maya knew that was a lie. "Now get off me! Ugh! You stink." She hit his arm off her shoulder, looking up at Koa in disgust before back down at Mateo who seemed to be peacefully watching in clear entertainment, which only made Maya only more angry.
Once Mateo noticed he had Maya's attention he just smirked, playfully waving at her as if she were a child. Maya responded with a tight smile, clearly full of irritation as she flipped him off.
His deep Hazel eyes just turned up in the corners as he kept smirking, dimples deepening. I turned away, continuing walking to the college, hoping to get to class on time yet Koa called out one more time.
"Sienna's going to the party though, right?"
Maya huffed, taking her air pods out and putting it in her ears, taking her phone out to play one of her playlists and block out Koa's annoying voice.
Once in class Maya sat down in the back, taking one air pod out and putting it back in the case so she could actually listen to the professor. She took her notebooks out and a pen, setting it down by her notebook so she was ready to put down notes. But once the professor was here. The professor is usually late so the students in his class usually sneak in a quick nap before he arrives.
Maya just got her phone out and started playing the challenges of Block Blast. The tall wooden doors opened, Maya glanced up expecting the professor to walk in but it was Mateo. Maya hated him, truly, but it was really really hard to stare at him with pure hatred when he was perfectly her type.
Mateo looked around the room to find somewhere to sit, eventually looking towards the back and spotting Maya, their eyes meeting. His face seemingly lit up, walking towards the back, ready to make fun of Maya.
Caught off guard, Maya quickly gets flustered but glares at Mateo as he sits right beside her. She looked back down at her phone, refusing to look at Mateo even as he stared at her.
"Oh come on, Maymay, how come you can't look at me now?" He said with amusement lingering in his voice. He rested his cheek against his hand, observing Maya as she kept playing Block Blast.
"You suck at that."
"Shut up.." She grumbled, failing the challenge once more.
Mateo kept watching, eventually grabbing her phone and turning his back so she couldn't grab it back.
"Let me help you. I'm amazing at this game."
"Hey! Give it!" She called out, reaching her arm over him yet he just elbowed her arm away. Huffing, Maya stood up slightly to look over Mateo's shoulder, seeing if he was indeed beating the challenge.
"It's a hard one..." Maya muttered, concentrated on where Mateo was putting each block.
"Hard my ass. I always complete the hard ones." He said, glancing up at Maya, pausing as he just let her eyes stare back into his own. Mateo cleared his throat, looking back down at Maya's phone, now left of just 25 more orange gems.
"So are you going to the party?" He asked, genuine curiosity in his voice.
Maya turned her head and stared at him, even when his focus was on the game. She tried processing the moment without saying something stupid, her eyes narrowing on his stupidly pretty face.
"Are you?"
He chuckled, a small smile on his face causing his dimples to show ever so slightly.
"I asked you first." He said.
Maya couldn't help but roll her eyes, taking back her phone once Mateo finished the round. She then sat back down in her chair, playing the next challenge which was much easier.
"It's none of your business."
"Ah, so you are. Good to know. Good to know." He said teasingly, turning his body in his chair to face her as he casually crossed her arms across his chest.
Maya's brows furrowed in annoyance at his voice, setting her phone down on her lap and looking over at Mateo with irritation clearly spread all throughout her body.
"You're so annoying! Really, I'm not going to the party. Why do you care anyway?" She said stated confidentially, trying to turn the tables as she crossed her arms under her chest, staring down Mateo.
He snickered lightly, tilting his head ever so slightly to the side as he kept his eyes locked onto hers.
"Well I don't really care, it's Koa that's all bonkers. He just wants Sienna at the party because wherever you are, Sienna is. At least most of the time. But it wouldn't be horrible to see you there." As the last sentence left his mouth his voice softened just a bit, his gaze following.
Maya's brows stayed furrowed, his mouth opening to argue as her hands shifted into a harsh point at Mateo's chest. But she was quickly cut off as the doors opened, the professor finally entering the room.
Nearly everyone looked at the professor and sat up right, Maya looking over at him as well. She then looked up at Mateo's cocky smirk, his gaze no different as he looked down at her. He uncrossed his arms and lifted his hands as if he were surrendering. He then mouthed the words with that same smirk on his face, "See you then, Maymay." He then proceeded to turn forward and watch the professor.
Her eyes narrowed on him, yet she knew he would.
