This is a story that's been in my head for a while.  About nine months now, probably.  Tell me what you think in the comments of each issue.

The country of Alterrius is in chaos.   After the old king's death, the noble families all tried to take the throne, warring against the country and each other.  They all failed, but the penalty for treason is death.  The split off into their own lands, continuing to attempt to take the throne in a civil war lasting for more than twelve years.

Cassiel is a Stepper, a human with the ability to exist on more than just the physical plane of existence.  Wars are won by Steppers, and lost to them.  Each military wants to have more Steppers than the rest, so they can ascend to the throne.  With all of the militaries looking for mages to fight in their battles, he has been in hiding his entire life.  Now, with his enemies close behind him, he must master his abilities and become the mage he was born to be.
