Look at this frail flower,

Wilting away as we speak.

A beauty of the world about to sour,

As its colours turn bleak.

Why do we pick the prettiest?

What is it all for?

Why is it always easiest

To keep taking more?

I see the colour drain

From those once rosy cheeks.

Like your soul hasn't seen rain

For so many weary weeks.

What was the point of it all?

Why did you find it easiest

To accept the dark downfall?

Now we watch a flower fall,

Back into the ground where it once lived.

Something so precious and small

That had a lifetime unlived.

So there goes our prettiest.

Picked fresh from our garden.

The pain is not the easiest,

But we'll meet again, that's for certain.
