The Last Gods - Ch 14

Kate- “….”

Kate- “*Opens Eyes Slowly*”

I must have waken up early. The sun is barely peeking above the trees. Albeis is still sleeping and Hashi still laying on my lap.

Kate- “*Strokes Hashi’s hair*”

Kate- “Please don’t die.”

Gorta- “*Coughing*”

Kate- “Oh, Gorta I forget you were there.”

Gorta- “Good morning Kate, and how do you feel?”

Kate- “Fine, just fine.”

I gently move Hashi’s head off my lap and got up to stretch.

Kate- “….”

Kate- “*Looks at her hands and then closes them tightly while closing her eyes.*”

Kate- “How much time does Hashi left.”

Gorta- “I can keep him from bleeding out for 2 to 3 days.”

Kate- “….”

Kate- “*Looks towards Albeis*”

Kate- “Can I wake him up now?”

Gorta- “I would just wait.”

Kate- “I see.”

Gorta- “….”

Kate- “….”

Kate- “Do you have any idea what those things were yesterday?”

Gorta- “No, but they seem to cause living beings internal and mental harm.”

Kate- “….”

Albeis- “*Waking up*”

Kate- “Albeis, are you ready to go?”

I walk up to Albeis and place my hand on his leg.

Kate- “Can I trust you Albeis?”

Albeis- “?”

Albeis- “Why do you ask?”

Kate- “I don’t think we’ll make it in time, like this.”

Kate- “I-I can’t lose Hashi, so I need your help to get to Kirin faster.”

Albeis- “….”

Kate- “Can I trust you to use more of your strength and carry us there?”

Albeis- “….”

Kate- “Please, promise me.”

Albeis says nothing but he gets on his knees, giving us a way to his back.

Kate- “Thank you Albeis.”

Albeis- “I can at least keep one promise.”

I ran to Hashi’s body dragged it as gently as possible but I couldn't get him on top, I was too weak.

Maybe I could use magic….

….

Kate- “Albeis can you pick Hashi up and put him on your back?”

Albeis pick Hashi up with his claws and placed him on his back, I climbed up soon after.

Kate- “Please, be quick Albeis.”

With that Albeis began a quick dash towards our destination, but not too quick to draw attention of those things.

It actually did not take long for us to get to the base of the volcano, any creatures that we might have had to fight on the way were smashed or were too scared to stop us.

Looking up at the volcano, It could be mistaken for a normal mountain except for it’s distinct red coloring and this ominous feeling that is all around this place.

Albeis takes Hashi and places him on the ground while I climbed off.

Kate- “*Looks around*”

Kate- “Where is everyone?”

Gorta- “They're probably not here, we did get here by dragon.”

Kate- “But what about Hashi!”

Gorta- “….”

Gorta- “We either run around the forest wasting time or we can wait here for them.”

Kate- “But-”

Gorta- “At least for a day, then we can have Albeis scout around.”

Kate- “*Looking dejected*”

[Meanwhile]

I awoke to the sun shining and people going about their day. I noticed that Kirin was gone and bolted up.

Dullahan- “*Quickly Looking around*”

Oh, he’s just playing with the children.

Dullahan- “*Sigh*”

???- “Oh, Dullahan.”

Dullahan- “?”

Dullahan- “Yes, Honda?”

Honda- “I have some people for you and your friends to meet.”

I followed Honda back to the gate of the village and saw Moryuu and Arrea waiting along with some unknown mythics.

Honda- “Allow me to introduce you to each other.”

Honda- “These two are our fellow members of the family, Tusak and Leo.”

Tusak looked like walking lizard and Leo was a two legged chimera, quite rare.

Tusak- “! *Eyes widen*”

Tusak- “….”

Honda- “Tusak, Leo these are the new mythic and human that want to help us protect our god. Dullahan, Arrea, and Moryuu.”

Dullahan- “Hello.”

Arrea- “*Nods and looks away*”

Moryuu- “*Smiles and Nods*”

Leo- “Nice to meet fellow mythics.”

Tusak- “….”

Tusak- “Hello.”

Leo- “Honda, is Sara back yet?”

Honda- “I’m sorry Leo….”

Leo- “….”

Leo- “I-I see.”

Tusak- “Tch...”

Honda- “We’ll have the funeral tonight.”

Leo- “S-Sorry I-I’m going to need a moment….”

Honda- “I understand.”

Leo makes his way past us to grieve I would imagine.

Honda- “What about you Tusak?”

Tusak- “If you don’t mind I would like talk to Moryuu for moment.”

Moryuu- “….”

Honda- “Oh, I’m glad you want to socialize with the new members.”

Tusak- “Yes….”

Tusak- “This way Moryuu.”

Moryuu- “*Sigh* Sure.”

Tusak and Moryuu leave towards what would seem to be an isolated area. I’m a bit worried if we are going to be found out but knowing Moryuu he wouldn't let that happen.

Arrea- “Was that all?”

Honda- “Oh, I’m sorry Arrea. I’m sure you have someone waiting for you.”

Arrea- “*Eyes widen slightly* Whatever.”

Dullahan- “What were Leo and Tusak doing out there.”

Honda- “They were scouting for anyone that may be a threat like Sara was, after some time they return here to rest and regather themselves.”

Dullahan- “Are there more out there?”

Honda- “Yes, but I fear that they might not come back.”

Dullahan- “I understand, sorry for bring it up.”

Honda- “It’s quite alright.”

Soon Moryuu emerged but Tusak was no where to be seen and he seemed to be uncharacteristically gloomy.

Honda- “Moryuu, where is Tusak?”

Moryuu- “He went back on patrol.”

Honda- “I see, I wish he could have stayed.”

Moryuu- “So do I.”

Moryuu left for somewhere else.

Dullahan- “Do you have a minute Honda.”

Honda- “Yes Dullahan.”

Dullahan- “Can you tell me about the God we are protecting?”

Honda- “I guess it is time for you to know, come with me.”

Honda- “*While walking* So what do you want to know?”

Dullahan- “I guess general things.”

Honda- “Well, our God is very young. After the incident we had to practically rise him ourselves.”

Dullahan- “What incident?”

Honda- “….”

Honda- “His family was killed by other mythics.”

Dullahan- “!”

Dullahan- “I-I see.”

Honda- “They were a kind family of Gods not like the Olympians. They were gods of life giving rain.”

Honda- “Gremmy was the youngest in the family, he would not have survived if not for the sacrifice of his sister Ariel, the sweet girl.”

Dullahan- “….”

Dullahan- “What was the father’s name?”

Honda- “Our Previous lord, his name was Koi.”

Dullahan- “!!”

Dullahan- “You don’t say….”

Honda- “He was a kind God, treated his worshipers like family. It broke our hearts to hear him and his wife Kei was killed by fellow mythics.”

Honda- “It almost makes me wish he had a greater following so he could have defended himself better but he always did prefer a small flock unlike other Gods.”

Dullahan- “Thanks for telling me this Honda.”

Honda- “Your welcome Dullahan, I don’t want you to think of our God like a traditional God. We do not worship him because he created us or will destroy us if we don’t, we do It because he was a good leader and a friend. He was our king.”

Dullahan- “….”

Honda stops and puts his hands on my shoulders and looks at my armor.

Honda- “That is why I want to protect his son, that’s why I need your help and everyone else’s.”

Dullahan- “I-I understand.”

Honda- “Thank you, I’ll see you around Dullahan.”

Dullahan- “Sure.”

Honda leaves to do what need to do while I….

[Perspective Shift: Arrea]

Mila- “Arrea!”

Arrea- “….”

Mila- “Why did the chief want you?”

Arrea- “He just wanted to introduce me to the other mythics that came back.”

Arrea- “….”

Arrea- “Why are you still following me?”

Mila- “My hug didn't seem to do the trick so I decided to hang out with you.”

Arrea- “So you just decided to that?”

Mila- “*Brightly Smiles* Yep!”

*Looks way* Gracious, that’s bright.

I followed her through the village until we came across other children who were playing with a ball.

The children back up and are visibly shaken but not by me?

Mila- “Then can I have the ball.”

Mila walks away looking dejected.

So even human children fear what they don’t understand.

This is not worth my time, I go looking for Mila until I found her sitting on the ground with traces of tears.

I sit Mila down while I find a nice place to “sit” down too.

Mila- “One night, her and my home suddenly vanished when me and my mom were out.”

Mila- “My mom and me had to move to another hut after the funereal but it didn't stop.”

Mila- “After the 3^rd time my mom disappeared too.”

Arrea- “Your mother, so who was that before?”

Mila- “She’s just some women who looks after me when no else wants to.”

Mila- “I wonder if I wasn't here then maybe it wouldn't have happened, maybe I could have protected my sister and mother.”

Arrea- “It wasn't your fault, if it was then it would have happened again but it hasn't.”

Before she finished she wiped her eyes and jumped up and gave me bittersweet smile.

Mila- “Let’s not think about the negative, we still have a day ahead of us.”

Mila- “I know another game we can play.”

Mila walks away to find us another game to play.

Aren't I the hypocrite.

After a while Mila seemed to have looked everywhere and still no game.

Mila- “*Looking progressively sadder*”

Arrea- “Mila, I have an idea for a game.”

Mila- “*Beaming smile* Really!”

Arrea- “Yeah, watch this.”

I found two sticks and used my webs in-between them to make a sticky net.

Mila- “Cool!”

Arrea- “So the game is that you are the goalie and I’m the thrower.”

Arrea- “*Hands the net to Mila*”

Arrea- “I throw random things at you and you catch them with the net.”

Mila- “It won’t hurt if I mess up right?”

Arrea- “I’ll hold back, don’t worry.”

We went some place were other’s won’t bother us and then we began the game. I gathered some rock, paper and other stuff.

I threw the first item.

Mila- “!”

She caught it.

We did this for some time until the net seemed almost full.

Arrea- “Okay, this is the last one. I’ll try a little bit harder.”

Mila- “*Nod*”

I winded up and let loosed a rock this time.

Mila looks set to to catch it with great difficulty until she slipped.

The rock looked like it was going to hit her head, I was about to run and catch it before it would hit her but to my surprise….

Mila- “!!”

Mila changed the way she fell and still caught the rock in the web.

Arrea- “!”

Arrea- “Great job Aurora!”

Mila- “?”

Arrea- “!”

Arrea- “Great job Mila, that was great!”

Mila- “….”

Mila- “Thanks Arrea!”

She was out of breath but not hurt.

Arrea- “That was fun.”

Mila- “Yeah it was.”

I noticed that it was almost time to go to sleep and separate.

Arrea- “It’s about time for you to go.”

Mila- “I want to sleep with you.”

Arrea- “W-what, don’t you need permission? What about your mother.”

Mila- “She’ll probably be happy to be alone for once.”

I waited there until she came back but before she did.

Moryuu- “Your getting closer to a human I see.”

Moryuu- “Just observing a rare sight, the rough Arrea being so kind to a human children. What would Kate think?”

Arrea- “Kate? Who’s that?”

Arrea- “Y-yeah, of course I am! She would probably get along with Mila. Don’t you have someone else to terrorize?”

Good, he left.

Mila soon came back with permission and with it we went to bed.

Mila- “Wow, we’re going to sleep up in the trees?”

Arrea- “Yeah, hold on tight so you don’t fall asleep.”

Mila- “Okay! *Hugs Arrea tightly*”

Mila- “Good Night Arrea.”

Arrea- “Good night Ka-”

Arrea- “-Mila.”

[Perspective Shift: Kate]

I’ve been staring into the forest, waiting and hoping for them to come.

Kate- “Gorta….”

Gorta- “I know, next thing in the morning Albeis will go look for them.”

Albeis- “*Nod*”

Kate- “Please find them Albeis.”

Gorta- “You need to get some sleep, you’ve been up like statue.”

Kate- “I’ll sleep when Hashi wakes up.”

Gorta- “*Sigh*”

Gorta- “Don’t push yourself too hard.”

Kate- “I won’t.”
