(Before I start, I just wanna say that I just fangirled and fainted over a picture of the Bangtan boys sleeping. Off topic, yes. Anyways, back to the story).
Junseo’s P.O.V.
Ariana walks past. I’m talking with my basketball teammates, Jake, Nico, and Elijah. We play for our high school, Arnic. Of course Ariana would say hi to me when I’m with Jake and the others. They only know her as the smart girl and she is shy. And kind, as well as smart. I watch her at her locker. She’s wearing jeans and a hoodie. She looks really good.
“Junseo! Hello!” My girlfriend, Lisa, yells in my face. “What?” I say. Jake rolls his eyes and he and the boys walk away. My friends don’t like Lisa. They say she is “self-centered, loud, annoying, and a clout chaser.” Maybe she is...She is. Maybe I’ve been trying to break up with her for months. I have. But she never listens.
“Junseo, babe, are you coming to Dustin’s party on Friday?” Lisa asks. I look down at her. I’m 6’3, so I’m taller than her 5’7. “The junior, Dustin?” I ask. “Yeah, him.” Lisa says, looking into a mini-mirror. I frown. “Are you?” She asks again. “No,” I say. “Why not?” Lisa asks.
We walk down the hall...the opposite way of Ariana. “Because I have to study and practice. I have a game on Monday.” I say. Lisa puts her hand on my chest, making me stop in the middle of the hall. “Please, baby?” She says. I shake my head. “Junseo, please?” She pouts. To make her stop, I sigh and say; “Fine, Lisa.” And I look at her.
“Okay!” She says, smiling. I nod. “Okay, good. I have to go to the mall. Bye.” She says and walks off. The mall? During school? Ugh. I turn to see if Ariana is still at her locker. She’s not. I sigh and walk to my last class.
Ariana’s P.O.V.
I walk into class and sit down in the middle. I have nobody to speak to in this class so I sit silently. Then I have a flashback; He’s just moving in. He couldn’t speak Vietnamese but I didn’t expect him to. His mom was nice. His dad was too.
He smiled a lot and he had a pretty smile. I had a snaggletooth then. We became friends instantly. I let him ride my scooter. We hung out at the park. We went to the same school for 4th grade. He’s always been really smart. He was my first crush. He was every girl's crush though. Those glasses. The lips. The clothes. Everything about him was perfect for me, my best friend. Back then, Junseo was my best friend.
I come out the flashback to my Trig teacher talking. Is Junseo still my best friend? What changed?
Junseo’s P.O.V.
After class, I go to my locker and grab my bag and phone. As I walk to my car, I look at my text messages. Jake has texted me, as well as my mom. My iPhone pings. It’s Ariana.
Ariana: Can you drive me home, please?
Me: Yes. I’ll wait for you in Parking Lot B.
She has an after school program she goes to. I look through Snapchat. Everyone is posting about Dustin’s party. It’s only Wednesday and people are going crazy. I jump when Ariana knocks on the passenger window. She giggles and I unlock the door.
She climbs in and smiles. “Hey, scary cat,” She says while buckling in. “I’m not scared!” I say but laugh. I start on the way to her house. We catch up. She frowns when I ask if she is going to the party. “No, Junseo. You know that’s not me.” She says. “Please, Ariana?” And suddenly, I’m Lisa like earlier. “No.” Ariana says. “Why not?” I say.
I pull into her driveway. “No, Junseo. I can’t come. Just...don't.” She says. She jumps out of my car. “Thanks for the ride,” She says and smiles slightly. “Anytime.” I say. She walks into her home. Her parents are home. I drive across the street and pull into my driveway. My parents are not home. I walk up to my room, change clothes, and start to study.
Around 9PM, my parents come home. I’m lying in my bed, playing my PS5. My mom comes to my door. “Hey, hon!” She says. I pause my game. “Hey, mom.” I say. “Did you have a good day?” My mom walks into my room. “Sort of.” I answer.
“Lisa?” She asks. Even my mom knows about her. That’s sad. I nod. “If she’s no good, than….Junseo, just let her go.” My mom says. I’ve been trying! For months!
“We were at your aunts earlier. She said she misses you...Then, we went to see Nana…” Mom says. “Mom, please...don’t start.” I say. “Junseo, stop it! You should go see her! We didn’t come to this country for you to ignore your Nana!” Mom says.
That’s how she gets out of our arguments. I was born in Busan, South Korea. We came to America when I was 9. I had learned a little bit of English in Korea so I got around. My Nana came to America first to test it out. When she was ready, she sent for us.
“I will,” I answer my mom. Mom sighs. “I...I love you, sweetie. Get some rest.” She says. She leaves. I text Ariana on Snapchat.
Me: Goodnight
Ariana: Goodnight, Junseo
I smile. I hope she is not mad at me any longer. I text Jake back from earlier.
Jake: Hey, man, when are you gonna get rid of Lisa?
Me: Don’t say it like that. I have been trying to break up with her. It seems like it goes in one ear of hers and out the other. I don’t know, bro.
Jake: Man, I feel bad for you.
Me: Shut up 🤣💀
Jake: XD
Me: Go to sleep already.
Jake: No! It’s only 9:50...Wanna play 2K20?
Me: Let’s go. I’ma beat you!
Jake: Bet.
I log onto Jake’s party and I tear him up. I won by 23 points. By 11PM, I'm passed out.
-Sorry for the short chapter...How's your day? What do you have planned?
