Davis has been an introverted reader for his entire life. At the age of 27 he is able to remain in the comfort and seclusion of his house, reviewing books on his blog to make a living. He never leaves and never speaks to anyone, for good reason: whenever he reads a book, he has the ability to transport himself into the fictional or non-fictional universe as defined by the words written in its pages. This particular ability has given him a unique understanding of all literature, making him the most renowned reviewer in the world. A secret organisation seems to have caught onto him somehow, though, and he is abducted and brought to a top secret laboratory, placed in solitary confinement, hooked up to a strange machine, and is given only one book to read: this year's telephone book.
