The ride down in the lift was utterly silent except for the impatient tapping of Alice's foot. Once the lift finally arrived, the doors opened with a ping. "Donna!" Alice ran towards her, grinning like an idiot pulling her into a bone-crushing hug. Donna returned the hug and laughed at her little sister. The young woman was pulling back, still grinning from ear to ear.

"They're much better," Alice turned to see the Doctor step outside as well. But it was then, without even stopping herself, that she hugged the man. At first, he went stiff as a board, finding it somewhat awkward because he wasn't expecting it, but he finally managed to relax and returned it.

Soon as the time machine disappeared, Donna began to walk back home, only leaving Alice, staying where she stood, questioning why he didn't ask her to come. Maybe it was because he still wasn't ready for fear of rejection or that he just wasn't prepared to take on anybody else he cared about, only to lose them again. So Alice began walking back home and back to her life in training to become a doctor with a sigh. Because that's where sometime soon their paths would cross again without them even knowing it.
