He follows his daily routine of putting on his greatcoat, moving the mirror, and greeting the crew. "Hoy, Cap, come see this." The MacFoley says. Aryx joined him on the quarterdeck, above his quarters. "What've you got for me?" Aryx says, noticing that MacFoley was staring blankly ahead into the sky beyond the ship's bow. "Have you ever seen a thing like that?" MacFoley asks, voice almost as shaky as his pointing finger. Aryx looks to the sky. He sees that the clouds shift their movement, bending unnaturally about a mile away, curving West away from the sun. Looking to the sea in that area, Aryx sees that the waves also change and go West. "Never." Aryx says, shocked. "Do we sail ahead?" "Aye, we'll keep heading North." Aryx says. His crew look back at him, looking slighty nervous. "We'll get through it lads, maintain course!" MacFoley shouts. The ship picks up speed and enters the strange winds. Aryx turns the wheel right, to fight the waves. There is suddenly a push on the starboard side. The crew goes quiet. "Hold!" Aryx shouts. He descends the stairs down to the main deck and looks over the gunwale into the sea. He sees a flash, something huge and shiny passes under the ship. "Look lads, there's a whale." Aryx says. The crew joins Aryx, and they watch as the whale swims past. "Biggest one I ever saw." Gardey says. "Aye, me too." Aryx says. Suddenly the whole ship shoots into the air about five feet. "Bloody hell!!" MacFoley says as he looses his footing and lands on his back on the deck. He blinks a few times. "You still aboard Cap?" He asks. "Aye! The hell was that?" Aryx replies, getting his bearings. He and the rest of the crew look over the side of the ship again. A far larger whale than the one they had just seen passes under the ship, its body as wide as the ship is long. "Now that's a biggie. Biggie O whale." One of the riggers says. "By God!" Gardey exclaims, "T'aint no whale! It's a shark!" The men look, and see a massive fin sticking four feet out of the water, with about six feet more still below sea. "Full sail! Get us out of here!" Aryx shouts. The men rush quickly to their posts, raising all sails. The ship picks up great speed as it flees the massive shark. "Guns to maindeck!" Aryx shouts. Five men bring auxilliary cannons up to the maindeck. "Load!" Aryx shouts. "MacFoley, be ready on the Hammer." "Aye Cap!" MacFoley loads the Hammer, a huge 32 pounder cannon that sits on the quarterdeck. The shark begins to follow the ship, gliding through the sea with terrifying speed. "Aw shite!" MacFoley says. Aryx turns around, seeing the shark. "Brace for hard right, ready portside guns!" Aryx voice booms. The men brace themselves and Aryx turns the wheel sharply, turning the ship's portside toward the rapidly approaching shark. The beast's head rises out of the water, exposing jaws big enough to swallow the whole ship. "Fire at will!!" Aryx yells. There is a symphony of booms as the gunners fire a volley of shot into the eyes and mouth of the giant shark, and the beast recoils away, plunging back into the sea with a massive splash that rocks the ship. The shark turns, and swims off quickly. "Yeah, that's right ye big soggy sock! Piss right off!" One of the drunken deckhands says, erupting the ship into laughter. "Lets book it to the nearest spot of land and lay anchor." Aryx says, breathing heavily. Aryx lets MacFoley take the wheel, and goes below deck to see what Gardey would serve the crew today. "Evenin' Cap." Gardey says as Aryx sits at the bar. "Have we still got potatoes?" Aryx inquires. "Aye." Gardey replies. "Garlic?" "Aye." "Salt?" "Plenty." "Let's have potato soup." Aryx says. "Sounds great Captain." Gardey says, getting to work. "Land ho!" Aryx hears from maindeck. He goes upstairs and sees a wide cay. "Perfect!" Aryx says. "Get us close and drop anchor, keep starboard guns loaded, no grog until night falls." He commands with a smile. "Let's make camp!"
