Standing in front of the full body length mirror, I approved of my outfit. I was wearing a pair of black leggings with a grey tank and a red cardigan. I had also slipped on a pair of black converse with white laces. I had also changed my black nail polish to a blue one. Slipping a ring on my right ring finger and my left middle finger, I grabbed a black bag, which belonged to Morgan and made my way downstairs.
When I got down, five pairs of eyes were instantly on me. I just ignored them and continued walking into the living room. "Mornin'." I greeted, and everyone gave me a mumble in response except for Ken, who jumped up. "Hi!"
I laughed at my best friend, as I looked her over. She was wearing black leggings and a grey shirt with a light blue jacket over it, tied in the front. And she had on the same shoes as me, with a brown shoulder bag.
"Are you ready to go?" She asked and I shrugged, "Yeah, Jace is probably waiting for us." I told her and Josh spoke, making our heads snap towards him, "Jace Jacobs?" He asked and I nodded, "No way. I'm heading there right now. I could give you a ride, if you want?" asked Josh and Morgan nodded, "Yeah, you'll burn if you walk in this sun."
I just shrugged and gestured for Josh to come on before I made my way to the front door. Pulling it open, I made my way down the steps, Ken and Josh hot on my trail. "My truck's just over there." Josh said, gesturing to the vehicle.
"No way." I murmured, rushing over to it. Whipping my head back, I saw Kendall on the other side, running her hands over it, as Josh approached us. "This is a 1960 Chevrolet." I told him and he nodded, a tiny smile playing on his lips. "Yeah, it is."
"I've always wanted this." I told him, and his eyebrow raised, "Oh really? I thought girls like you would prefer fancy cars, like a Ferrari."
"Girls like me? Oh please, the only cars I've rode in were all pick up trucks. Well, excluding Nick, Morgan and Matt's expensive cars." I honestly told him as he unlocked the truck. "I call the back!" Kendall yelled and I groaned, hopping up into the passenger seat.
"Why didn't she call shotgun?" the boy asked and I pointed behind me, "That's why."
Josh looked up into the rear view mirror and saw Kendall lying down on her back, typing on her phone. He shook his head, before starting up the car. I put my feet up in the dashboard, before answering my phone, pressing it to my ear.
I guess I should've checked the caller I.D first.
"Hey baby."
I sighed, dropping my head back, "What do you want Luke?" I questioned, making Kendall sit up straight, "Luke? As in Lucas Thomas Dillon?" She hissed quietly. "Oh come on, don't be like that."
"Luke, I'm giving you five seconds before I hang up." I warned and he sighed, "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for acting like a douche. Once school starts back up, I'm quitting the team."
My eyes almost bulged out o their sockets, "What? No, you can't quit the team. You love football."
"Screw football. You were my friend, and I threw that away for the team." Luke angrily spat, as if angry with himself. "Luke—"
"You don't have to say anything. But, please, just say that after the summer break, we'll talk?" He asked and I bit the inside of my cheek, tasting the blood, "Yeah, we will."
Thanking me, Luke hung up and I went onto Twitter as Kendall stuck her head through the middle of the driver and passenger seat. "Did you just agree to talk to Lucas Thomas Dillon?" She asked, her eyes wide as I went to tweet on my second twitter account. "Yes, I did."
@CAistheboMb:: I have high expectations after summer break. You better live up to them.
"High expectations? Lucas Thomas—"
"I swear if you saw his name one more time." warned I, getting angry quickly. Huffing, Kendall pushed herself back into her seat as she crossed her arms, looking out the window.
Once we pulled up to the small house, I hopped out, not waiting for the driver to actually park the car. Luckily, I landed on my feet. Wow, thanks for bringing me to gymnastics class, dad.
Running up to the door, I banged on it, and it swung open. I was immediately lifted up into strong arms. "Cece!" Jace, my older cousin, exclaimed as he hugged me tightly. "Jc!"
After spending the whole day with Jace and Josh, we were about to leave when Jace ran out after us. "Wait, you've got to take a picture." he rushed out, snatching my phone from my hand. I laughed, rolling my eyes, but obeyed, putting my elbow on Ken's shoulder, throwing up the deuce.
Ha ha, 'throwing up the deuce'.
Jace quickly threw a pair of sunglasses at me, and I caught them with my free hand, slipping them on my face. I pursed my lips as Ken just grinned, for the picture. Jace took it and handed the phone back to me. "Thanks."
"See you later." Ken waved to my cousin and he waved back, "Bye y'all! Oh and Josh, Phoebe was here earlier, looking for you."
"What?" The boy asked, "Where'd she go?"
Jace bit his lip, a habit that us Campbells, or in his case Jacobs, had. "I told her that you'd be at Mo's place." Jace informed him and Josh ran to his truck, Ken and I hurrying after him; obviously only because he was our ride.
"Get in." Ken pushed me into the passenger seat as she climbed into the back. Not even waiting for us to close the doors, Josh took off. Slamming the door, I quickly sent a text to Nick.
Is Phoebe there?
His reply was immediate as if he was expecting someone to ask.
Yeah; tell Josh she's real upset.
On a scale of girl, how upset?
Like, boyfriend cheated, ice-cream, chick-flicks and crying upset.
Okay, that's really bad. "Uhm, Josh?" I questioned, and he looked over to me quickly before back at the road, "Nick says that uhm, Phoebe is really upset." I told him and his fingers tightened around the steering wheel as the car went faster.
Arriving at the house, we all hurried out of the car and ran into the house, Josh first. I saw Nick leaning against the wall, arms crossed while Morgan was hugging a hysterical girl.
Dropping Morgan's bag on the couch, I went and stood in front of Nick, letting him wrap his arms around my waist as I watched Josh take the girl - Phoebe - in his arms. After a while, the girl with brown highlighted hair, lifted up her face and wiped her tears.
Looking up at me, she gasped, "Jo." She said and my heart stopped as I saw the bruises on her face. "Jessa?" I inquired, staring at the twenty-five year old make-up artist.
Swiftly standing up, she made her way to me as I pushed myself out of Nick's arms and into the older girl's instead. "I've missed you." She whispered and I closed my eyes, pulling away from her, "Did Mark do this?"
Lowering her gaze to the ground, Jessalyn, or Phoebe didn't answer. "Oh, Jess." My heart clenched at the thought of Mark hitting her again. Faster than a blink of an eyes, I twirled around and took Nick's keys from his pocket and darted out the door.
Hearing everyone running after me, I started to run, until I got to Nick's car. None of them were as fast as me, so I opened the door and got in, closing the door behind me. The passenger seat door opened just as I was going to lock it. In slipped Josh, "Go!" he ordered and I started up the engine, pulling off.
"How do you know my sister?" Josh asked after a while. "Moe's known her since she moved here." explained I, as I pulled up to the house Jess shared with Mark.
Walked up to the door, I pulled it open, knowing that after every fight, Jess would run off, leaving the door unlocked. "Pheebs! I'm so—" Mark stopped himself when he saw that we weren't his girlfriend.
"You —" I started cussing him out as I walked closer to him, punching him in the face. "Jordan!" He yelled, putting his hands up. "That not my name!" I angrily spat, kicking him in the stomach, "I thought you promised to stop! You said, you'd stop!" I yelled as I kicked him in his face.
Arms grabbed my waist and pulled me back, I tried fighting, but these arms were strong. "Stop it. Stop." The voice whispered in my ear and I calmed down, my heart racing from going all crazy on Mark. Taking me towards Mark, he kicked him twice, once in the stomach and once in his face before stepping back.
The arms let me go, and I went to walk back to Mark, but the arms stopped me again. One arm went around my neck, and the other wound my waist. "You're really stubborn aren't you?" Josh asked, as he walked out of the house, arms still loked around me.
When we got to the car, he let me go. Turning around, I came face to face with Josh. Sighing, I looked towards the house, "One more kick?"
He shook his head, "As much as I gladly want him—hurt," Josh stopped himself, looking at me, "Phoebe wouldn't like it." He said and I nodded. Then I noticed that I was trapped in between Josh and the car.
Looking up at him through my lashes, I could tell that Josh had just realized the same thing. Slowly leaning down, Josh's lips were seconds away from mine when my phone went off. "So where I'm supposed to go? When she throws me out and it's twenty below. That girl, that girl, she's such a trick. But I can't lie, I'm in love with it."
Biting his lip, Josh pulled away and walked around to his side. Nibbling on my own bottom lip, I answered my phone, as I got into the car. "Nick's mad."
"Of course Nick's mad, I stole his freaking car." I retorted, putting the phone on speaker, leaving it on the dashboard as I started up the car. "No. He's mad because he thinks you're going to hurt yourself." my best friend told me, as I turned left. "And why is that?"
Kendall sighed, "Campbell, when was the last time you drove a car?" She questioned and I smirked, "I wouldn't know. I don't drive cars, Reed."
"Stop being so sarcastic. You haven't driven a vehicle for a full year, Cam! Why wouldn't he be worried?" came her anxious voice. I took one hand off the wheel and hung up the phone before pushing the gas pedal.
I knew I was going over the speed limit, but I honestly didn't care and it seemed that neither did Josh. Parking in Nick's parking spot, we both exited the car. Me, making sure to grab my phone.
When we entered the house; Nick was pacing, Matt was hugging Morgan, Jess was sitting on one of the chairs, chewing her nails and Ken was leaning against the wall. "I swear, I'm going to kill you!" Nick hissed before hurrying over to me and lifting me up in his arms. "I'm fine."
He pulled away from me, "We were just about to call dad, y'know?" He asked and I immediately felt guilty. "I'm sorry." apologized I, looking down as Nick brought me back into a hug.
Yeah, I screwed up big time.
