Third semester of Form 2

The grades of the 2nd exam were out.
"Come get your report card according to your student number! No. 1!" the teacher announced.
I was No.1 so I came out first...
I read my report card once I returned to my seat....
"Class Rank: 24/25" My face blackened, and my mind went blank...
"Such grades..." I was rendered speechless...
Then, I sat on a couch in the Coffee Club’s room during recess. A few coffee machines were put at the entrance of the Club’s room, and the interior of the room was decorated to imitate a Cafe. I was bending my waist with my arms hugging my thighs as if I were lovelorn or in deep thoughts...
Tung noticed that I had nothing else to do and started talking to me.
"Do you play Honor of Kings (王者榮耀, a popular MOBA mobile game in China)?” she asked gently.
"No, but I can give it a shot,” I answered.
"Come closer, let me show you something,” she said.
Oh, here comes my chance! How exciting!
She showed me some gaming clips, and frankly... I couldn't understand any of it.
I asked her how to download the game and she said it was available on the official website.
On Saturday, after I got my phone back from my parents, I started attempting to download the game...
The reason why I could not immediately download the game back on the day I chatted with Tung, was because my family was extremely strict (even stricter than certain authoritarian countries). They usually only allowed phone usage during vacations, which was very irritating and dissatisfying. It was one of the biggest obstacles to my relationship with her.
It turned out that my phone was running out of storage....
"Fxxk..." That was so disappointing
In the coming week, she did not show up to the club, and was nowhere to be found during recesses. It had been quite a while since I last talked to her, and it was devastating.
Until one day, Tung stayed after school and I took the opportunity to approach her to get her contacts...
"Hey... do…do you use Line?" I stuttered a little bit.
She shook her head and replied," No, I only use WeChat and QQ."
"I use neither of those..." I was disappointed.
"Then I guess that’s that. Come back when you have one..." Tung smiled as she spoke.
She only used WeChat and QQ, but I used neither. Alas, what a let-down.
On the following Saturday in a Cantonese teahouse, I begged my parents, "Mom! Dad! Can I have my own sim card? I want to sign up for WeChat!"
"No!" My mother firmly replied.
"Why the hell not? Having personal contacts is the most fundamental right for a secondary school student like me! Why can’t I have my own phone number like everyone else?” I was on the verge of tears.
"Why can everyone but you get good grades?" I couldn’t believe she would use that as a rebuttal.
I barely kept myself from flipping over the table out of rage.
Later, my aunt gave me a WeChat account after learning how miserable I was. I was on cloud nine when I finally had a way to contact her! Yahoo!
However, being an introvert, I could not bring myself to give her my contact after returning to school. I was too shy to be proactive and she was a difficult person to find during recesses.
During lunchtime, she was playing mobile games which she had been addicted to outside of campus. I didn't dare to disrupt her games.
Before I realized, I had already failed to get her contact for several weeks...
Then, on that day, there was only me and her in the Coffee Clubroom...
It was a good opportunity to “Just Do It!”
"Didn’t you say you wanna add me on WeChat before? Let me give you my info now," I said shyly.
"Oh, sure,” she replied.
Just as I sent myself a WeChat friend request with her phone, I had a feeling that was like nothing before.
It was like a weight had been lifted out of my shoulder, delighting and exciting, as if my mind was liberated...
Alas, recesses lasted too shortly, and soon I had to return to class, in which I was too excited to pay attention.
When I got home, I found my cell phone in my parent’s room through my sixth sense and accepted the Wechat friend request. I was finally at ease.
Later on, she told me that she didn't use YouTube, Facebook, IG, etc. at all. She only used websites and apps from Mainland China, which I didn't care much about back then.
Not long after, it was time for another exam... another goddamn exam...
One day after school...
I did something very bold and crazy (don't learn this at home, kids~) which is... stalking...
I left my school bag at the Coffee Club’s headquarters and ran straight out. She had just left from the school gate...
I followed her quietly, keeping a distance of at least 10 meters from my target...
"Ho Nam? What’re you doing here?" a classmate of mine asked.
"Just going for a walk outside.” That was a lame excuse.
After dealing with him, I continued following Tung, she had just crossed a road...
There was no traffic light on that road so I simply dashed across it when there was no car.
Damnit, I lost sight of her...
It's time to activate my best technique ~" Eagle Vision"
I concentrated my senses to track her scent lingering in the air...
Following my sixth sense, I found her at a bus stop far away...
She was waiting for the bus...
I thought she lived nearby, but it turned out otherwise...
I sat on a bench near the stop and waited for her to leave so that I could figure out where she was going.
It was as if I were a secret agent...
The mission of the day is to be a stalker...
As a secret agent, patience is key...
I sat there and waited for half an hour. It was summer vacation, but it wasn’t too hot for me, my body was staying cool as my mind was still...
After another half an hour... She finally got on a bus and left...
l immediately approached to see where the bus was going...
Let’s see... too many stations... how am I supposed to guess...
My sixth sense had limitations, so I had no choice but to give up. Mission failed...
Soon after, the exams started...
On the day after the exam, fate was on my side. I was helping out in the library with her, it was great.
In the library...
"Staying here to help? When did you become such a ‘good girl?’" I asked
"I was forced to come here ...." she smiled as she replied.
"Hahaha, it's fine, I'll keep you company." I laughed.
We kept chatting as we worked. When I had finished my work and could leave, she still had to stay. I had no reason to stay and it wouldn’t look good if I forced my way to stay behind. Before leaving, I tauntingly said," I am going home to play games, take your time! See-ya!"
She found it both funny and irritating. She lifted a book and was about to smack me with it. Haha, as a Taekwondo master, how could I allow myself to be hit so easily? Although you are tough and tall, while I am short and dull, I am still confident in my agility.
I perfectly dodged her attack and then waved" good-bye” at her...
At home, my mom asked," Why didn't you stay behind and have dinner with her?"
I was already regretting it by then, but I was afraid that she would figure out that I had a crush on her, which was a super big secret to me. I had not told Gwan, the new teacher called Yao, or even Yang about it. I only revealed that I have a crush on someone, perhaps they had already guessed. Anyway, I had not revealed who the person I had a crush on was by then.
It was time for another report card...
This time, my grades had improved." Class Rank: 13/25” I was no longer the bottom 2nd of my class.
That was the end of the third semester of my second year in secondary school, but the academic year was still yet to be finished. There was still summer vacation.
