It was pitch black outside. The station's small lights on the outside wall illuminated in the darkness. I tried to slow my breathing as too much happened. The body in the forest. Pictures flooded my mind. Blood. Woman. Resemblance. Murder. Suspect. My body jerked again which snapped me back into reality. I looked down at my bag which I had now. I stole it during the chase and took a bunch of coffee from an outdoor shop. I took out a cup and gulped down the coffee. I sighed and walked back inside. I suddenly heard footsteps. It was Mira. Walking in my direction. Vera and Anita weren’t found. They must’ve been upstairs.
“What happened back there?” She asked.
I flinched at the question, but managed to recover. “Nothing.”
She threw her arms up in the air. “How was that nothing? You were supposed to get firewood but then we ended up getting chased by guards who happened to get hit with a taxi-”
“Guards always chase us,” I cut her off. “We’d be screwed anyway.”
“What did you see back there?” She pressed.
“You wanna know so badly?” I yelled. “Fine! It was a dead body.”
“What?!”
I swallowed. “I found a dead body belonging to a young adult woman. There was blood everywhere, and there was a slice on her stomach. The guards found me standing by it.”
Her eyes widened. “That’s why it’s cautioned,” She then proceeded to pace back and forth. “They probably think you murdered her.”
“Obviously!” I ran my fingers through my hair frantically.
“Dammit,” She spat. “We had a plan. I knew the routes that could’ve gotten us to the mall, but now there’s this whole new issue! And the fact that they saw us already makes us involved.”
I eyed her. “Are you saying it’s my fault?”
She glared. “Well, there were several other places to find branches.”
“How was I supposed to know there was a dead body there?” I asked, before a realization struck me. “Unless you’re suggesting I killed her too. Is that what you’re implying? That I’m a murderer?” I am. I already am one. But not for this one. This one was…unexpected. Just placed out there.
She waved her hand off aimlessly. “Well for one, you have an issue no one is bringing up.”
“My issue is none of your business,” I replied sternly. “And neither should this one. I can’t believe you’d think I’d do something like this.”
She turned away from me. “I don’t know what happened, okay? Besides, it’s not like we actually know each other. Things aren’t going to be easier with this in our faces.”
“The caution tape was there when we were grouped together,” I pointed out. “So I didn’t cause that. Besides, there’s nothing sharp on me.” That was definitely a lie. But I promised I would never use them again. She turned back to me. “You had a hideout in the forest. You could’ve killed anyone and then they just recently found the body. Face it, we’re different. We hide things from each other. Including our true intentions.”
This girl is pissing me off. I actually learned to cooperate with this situation and she’s making me want to explode. But I knew I couldn’t let it go that far. I needed to end this conversation now. And never talk to her again. I hefted my bag. “I should’ve left you to die in that forest if I knew you were an accuser.”
Her mouth hung open in shock as I turned to walk away. But her next words stopped me. They hit me like a bullet. “Did your family plan to raise you to be a heartless, provoking, and aggressive piece of trash?”
I spun, shooting her a hostile glare. “Don’t talk to me about family. Don’t even say that word.” My words were sharp like blades. I walked up the stairs without saying more.
